Troye Mellet to Portray a Young Wolverine

Here's a bit of small casting news for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Literally!

Thirteen year-old Troye Mellet will play the role of the younger Logan in the upcoming Wolverine movie.

The Sydney Times reports that the young Australian earned the role of playing the young version of the character made famous by Hugh Jackman in the X-Men films thanks, in part, to YouTube videos of him singing.

Check one out now:

After producers saw said videos, Mellet was asked to submit an audition tape. That piece of footage led to the role, which enables Mellet to star alongside Jackman, Liev Schreiber Dominic Monaghan and many others in the spin-off, which arrives in theatres in 2009.

Another Wolverine Movie Casting Call: Daniel Henney

daniel-henney-agent-zero.jpg Here's our seemingly daily update on the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine...

Daniel Henney, an American expatriate actor in South Korea, will play David North, aka Agent Zero.

North is part of the clandestine Team X, which was formed by the CIA. It consists of three field agents: Logan (Wolverine), North (Agent Zero) and Victor Creed (Sabretooth, to be played by Liev Schreiber).

According to Variety, Agent Zero is an expert tracker with lethal marksman skills.

Henney joins Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Schreiber (Sabretooth), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Taylor Kitsch (Gambit), Dominic Monaghan (Beak), Will.i.am (Kestrel), Danny Huston (William Stryker), and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) in the film that opens in May, 2009.

Dominic Monaghan Joins X-Men Origins: Wolverine Cast

dominic-monaghan-blackwing.jpg Dominic Monaghan may have been killed off of Lost. But the actor has been resurrected to play Barnell Bohusk (aka Blackwing) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Quick background on the character: Barnell's body changes into that of a humanoid-bird form, one with a beaked face, bulbous eyes, wing-like arms that give him the ability to fly and double-jointed knees. In mutant form, Blackwing also possesses heightened agility.

Monaghan joins a long, impressive cast that includes: Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Taylor Kitsch (Gambit), Will.i.am (Kestrel), Danny Huston (William Stryker), and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox).

X-Men: Wolverine slashes its way into theaters on May 1, 2009.

Will.i.am Added to Cast of Wolverine Movie

will-i-am-kestrel.jpg Another day, another big name added to the cast of X-men Origins: Wolverine.

Hip-hop producer/rapper Will.i.am is set to play Kestrel/John Wraith in the new film.

Kestrel was part of Team X along with Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick, Mastodon, and Silver Fox. This character is a powerful teleporter whose alter ego is named John Wraith. Similar to the other members of Team X, Kestrel was given an artificial age suppressant; he's likely much older than he looks.

What do you think of Will.i.am playing an X-Men? Is it a good casting choice?

Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch Cast in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Two new actors have been added to the cast of the X-Men spin-off focusing on Hugh Jackman's character of Wolverine:

The 31-year-old Canadian actor will star as "a high-tech mercenary known for his wisecracks, black humor, and satirical pop-culture references (thanks, Wikipedia!).

Wolverine Spoilers: Photo, Plot Synopsis

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, look for the title character to get truly angry.

"I know it seems odd given, you know, the guy is already half animal," Hugh Jackman said to USA Today. "But with all the success of the X-Men, you feel the pressure to keep pushing it further."

This film will serve as a prequel to the X-Men movies, showing a more vulnerable side to the superhero.

The New Wolverine

"I think one of the reasons the X-Men took off is that it connected in a way nobody saw," the actor said. "They're mutants with powers. But they're also outcasts for being, and everyone connects with that on some level. And who wouldn't want the power to get back at the people who ostracized you?"

As Wolverine's nemesis, Sabretooth (rumored to be played by Liev Schreiber), Jackman said he "is going to play a big part in it. And there will be a good bit of cameos [of new and familiar mutants]. But you can't give too much away, because fans are pretty hard-core. Their expectations go up a level every time you come out with a new film."

Wolverine slashes its way into theaters on May 1, 2009.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Casting News

We have an update on Liev Schreiber's role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The actor will, indeed, appear in the film. But he will not be portraying a young Stryker, as had been previously believed. Instead, Schreiber will play Victor Creed (aka "Sabretooth") in the X-Men follow-up.

In other Wolverine movie casting news, Michael C. Hall is in talks for the role of Stryker, while Michelle Monaghan may portray Silver Fox.

This sequel - or prequel, we suppose - tells the story of Wolverine's violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters numerous mutants, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

The movie opens on May 1, 2009.
