X-Files 2 Writer Warns of Spoilers

X-Files 2 screenwriter Frank Spotnitz told MTV that audiences should beware of speculation online regarding the movie's story lines.

"They shouldn't believe anything because they're going to feel burned or disappointed inevitably that day," Spotnitz said. "So that's really been our stance all along because there's so much misinformation on the Internet. And people saying they have credible sources or call-sheets that are of dubious authenticity. The best thing is to view everything skeptically and wait for the movie."

The X-Files: I Want To Believe comes out on July 25, 2008.

The X-Files Wants to Believe

When it comes to The X-Files s movie title, the truth is finally out there. Or here, we guess. You get the point.

The big-screen sequel of the paranormal TV show will be called The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Chris Carter, the series' creator and the movie's director and co-writer, has confirmed to The Associated Press.

This title is a familiar phrase for fans of the series.

"I Want to Believe" was the slogan on a poster Duchovny's UFO-obsessed agent Fox Mulder had hanging in the cluttered basement office where he and Anderson's Dana Scully worked.

"It's a natural title," Carter said. "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. `I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."

What do you think of this title? We aren't fans of the use of the first person in it.

Two More X-Files 2 Photos

Plot details and brief X-Files 2 spoilers are starting to leak around the Internet.

For the most part, though, fans need to wait until this anticipated sequel hits theaters on July 25 to fully see just what truth is out there.

You'll have to make do with a couple more images from the movie in the meantime:

More X-Files 2 Spoilers. Sort Of.

While a few X-Files 2 spoilers and plot details have been leaked, not too much is known about the film. We can say for certain it comes out July 25 and that the movie is a stand-alone story; it won't be tied into the overreaching mythology of the series.

That's how X-Files creator Chris Carter explained the new film.

"We knew we wanted to do something that wasn't a mythology episode. We'd kind of wrapped up the mythology, to a large extent, in the series. So I think, especially coming back a number of years later, the best thing to do would be to reintroduce The X-Files to its core audience, but also maybe introduce it to a lot of people who haven't had a chance to see it before, who were maybe too young to see it before.

I talk to college kids now who were too young fifteen years ago [when the series began], and if you're 22 years old and in college, you were just a kid. So I think there are lots of kids who didn't see it. "

Scully and Mulder

So, if the flick isn't about the alien/government conspiracy plotline, what is it about? Can Carter give us any details?

"I can't, really, because nobody really wants to know. The truth is everybody wants to go and have a great experience. They want to be surprised and they want to be scared and if the cat gets out of the bag, there's no putting it back in."

Fox has recently released a movie poster teaser for the upcoming untitled X-Files 2.

The sequel to the 1998 movie version of the X-Files comes out July 25, 2008.  To say we're excited would be an understatement.

It's been 10 years, but Special Agents Scully and Mulder will be back on the big screen!

X-Files 2 Finishes Shooting

042407xfiles.jpg Days after The X-Files 2 finished shooting in Vancouver, the cast and crew held a press conference in that city.

David Duchovny, for example, said - perhaps jokingly - that he and Gillian Anderson staged their full-on kiss in the movie, a photo of which has appeared on sites across the Internet.

As for spoilers being leaked and journalists following the movie around from shoot to shoot, creator Chris Carter said:

"It's been a two-way street. To tell you the truth, I would like to make the movie secretly and put it out there on July 25, have everybody get a gift they could open."

Duchovny finished work late the night before and was catching a plane to Los Angeles yesterday. The rest of the crew were to finish by week's end. The movie is a stand-alone story unconnected to the series' ongoing conspiracy thread, but beyond that they're not saying much.

"We're not doing an exercise in nostalgia to appeal to the fans of the show," said co-writer and producer Frank Spotnitz. "We saw this as an opportunity to introduce the characters to people who may have been too young . . . It has a reason for being, even if there'd never been a television show before."

Cast, Crew Speak on X-Files 2

Mulder and Scully PhotoAt this year's WonderCon show, one of the more popular panels was that of The X-Files 2 movie. In attendance were series creator Chris Carter, writer Frank Spotnitz and stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

Immediately, the group addressed the issues associated with the franchise's six-year absence.

"Because it'll scare the pants off of you," answered Carter when asked why this movie would be worth the wait. "Because you'll get to see Mulder and Scully together again, that's why."

For the actors, getting back into character after such an extended time away was a challenge.

"I had a really bad first couple of days," said Anderson. "I thought it was going to be really easy to step right into it. And I came to work very confident and I just sucked for a good 48 hours. It was harder than I thought."

"It was hard because a lot of time has passed for these two people as time has passed for all of us," added Duchovny. "And we want to honor the changes as well as keep them the same people. So I think we were both trying to figure out how to balance that â€" how to make them a little older and yet be the same people."
