The movie stars Ellen Page as Bliss Cavendar, a misfit that doesn't fit into her small Texas town... until she comes across a women's roller derby league.

In Whip It, Ellen Page stars as a rebellious teenager that signs up to play roller derby brutal. Along the way, she discovers friendship and freedom... among numerous bruises and falls.
The film marks the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore, who told USA Today that she quickly learned how one must call upon a lifetime of experiences when behind the camera.
"Everything I've learned throughout my whole life has been going into this piggy bank, and I just smashed it all over the floor for this one," Barrymore told the newspaper.
The story of a young girl pushed in many different directions, Whip It also stars Jimmy Fallon, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis and Zoe Bell.
Barrymore said the tale partly reflects her own, as she was a famous child star that struggled with the transition to adulthood.
"I felt pressures that everybody feels, whether it's inter-office, in high school or a small town. Everyone relates to expectations others have or what the world thinks. Who am I going to become? What am I going to be in this world?"
Jimmy Fallon, who is set to take over for Conan O'Brien in the 12:30 a.m. talk show slot next year, has been cast in Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It!
According to Slash Film, Fallon has been spotted on set of the roller derby movie portraying Hot Tub Johnny, a cheesy hungover announcer who makes nasty comments to all the skaters.
Moreover, sources report that Andrew Wilson is playing a roller derby coach in the flick.
It stars Ellen Page as “an indie-rock loving misfit” who finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin Texas. No release date has been set yet.
Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis and Zoe Bell will all join Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore in Whip It!, the roller derby comedy that marks the feature directorial debut by Barrymore.
Reports say Harden will portray an overbearing ex-beauty queen who would rather see her daughter, Bliss (Page), in pageants than skates. Wiig then plays Bliss' rowdy mentor, Malice in Wonderland.
Lewis is Dinah Might, the star of Austin's top team. Bell takes on the role of a medical technician moonlighting as derby star Bloody Holly.
Whip It is the big screen adaption of Shauna Cross' book "Derby Girl."

Her pageant-addicted mother expects her to compete for the coveted Miss Blue Bonnet crown, but Bliss would rather feast on roaches than be subjected to such rhinestone tyranny. Bliss' escape? Take up Roller Derby.
According to a recent interview Cross gave to Film School Rejects, the actress that will play the role of Bliss has a name that rhymes with "Shmellen Shmage."
