Angelina Jolie: Wanted for Wanted Sequel

There will be a Wanted sequel. There's no doubt about it.

But will Angelina Jolie return for the follow-up in the role of Fox? It sounds that way, despite one clear obstacle.

"If you remember from the first film... She was kind of... dead," director Timur Bekmambetov told MTV. "[But] we have a recovery room with the baths of wax. We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head."

Jolie is Wanted

Bekmambetov added that "there has to be a reason for her to come back... and we know the reason. I think we found the reason for her to come back."

Even if Jolie doesn't return, the Wanted sequel is a go.

The director said: "I think we will make the movie this winter."

Producer Confirms Plans for Wanted Sequel

At Comic-Con last week, producer Timur Bekmambetov touched on rumors of an upcoming sequel to Wanted.

"Yes, I think it's coming," Bekmambetov said. "We're working hard to be ready to shoot in a few months."

The original action movie was released in 2008 and earned more than $134 million at the box office.

Big Bang

When asked about the status of stars James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie, Bekmambetov said: "James McAvoy will be in the movie, and he will try to wake up our Fox."

Nice!

Jolie's character died at the end of the first film, but there are ways around that. When asked where Fox currently resides, Bekmembetov hinted at how she might be revived in a sequel:

"She's in a bath with wax," he said, referring to the healing baths that the characters took in the first film to repair themselves after lots of gun-toting mayhem.

Mark Millar Speaks on Wanted Sequel

Mark Millar, the creator of the Wanted graphic novel and a producer on its upcoming sequel, recently spoke out on the project.

"As a producer on the thing, I'm excited," he wrote on his message board, adding: "I know who's in it and after doing 342 million at the box office we have [serious] money to spend on everything from cast to crew to script."

Regarding Evan Spiliotopoulos, who will write the sequel's script, Millar said: "This guy is supposed to be really good. He did a GREAT action script recently (on an unproduced movie) and that's what got him this."

Evan Spiliotopoulos to Pen Script for Wanted Sequel

A Wanted sequel has already been confirmed.

Expect buzz to grow around the movie, too, now that a screenwriter has been found for it. Evan Spiliotopoulos, who penned the immortal Pooh's Heffalump Movie, will write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first Wanted, which starred Angelina Jolie, grossed $339 million worldwide.

Wanted Sequel Spoilers, News

Screenwriter Chris Morgan, who penned Wanted, has confirmed to MTV that he will reprise those duties for the planned sequel to this summer's hit.

Morgan said he's hashing out the story for Wanted 2 with director Timur Bekmambetov. The biggest problem - Wanted spoiler warning if you haven't seen the original! - in crafting a follow-up is that so many characters died in the original.

"That is the challenge here," said Morgan, "but the point is to continue the journey that Wes [Gibson, played by James McAvoy] started in the first film. Wherever he ended up at the end of the film, now it's time to move him forward."

More News on Wanted Sequel

Will there be a Wanted sequel? It's seeming more and more likely.

Graphic novelish Mark Millar recently told Newsarama about his plans for a film follow-up to his Wanted adaptation.

Millar said he would not write a comic book sequel to the original mini series, but would pen original new story lines that fit into the movie's universe. It will also use a few of the elements from the original comics that didn't find their way into the first movie.

"It will be some of the stuff that we didn't utilize from the first book for the movie - like chapters three and four - there will be some stuff from that," said Millar, "so in the loosest sense it will be based on the book, but only very little."

Director Temur Bekmambetov, writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, producer Marc Platt and star James McAvoy have already signed up for the Wanted sequel.

Wanted Sequel Moves Ahead

According to Variety, Universal Pictures has resigned Wanted Marc Platt for five years. And one of the producer's first missions?

To get a Wanted sequel up and running.

Platt acknowledged that the creative team is still working on the challenge of continuing the movie's story, considering most of the principal characters - including Angelina Jolie - ended the original in no position for an encore.

However, the film was designed as a potential franchise - and it is still performing strongly, having grossed $192.6 million worldwide.

"The writers are at work already, and those creative discussions are taking place," said Platt about the Wanted sequel.

We know James McAvoy would be back for another Wanted. But can Angelina Jolie be resuscitated for a sequel?

Movie Critic: Angelina Jolie is a Very Wanted Woman

Manohla Dargis, a New York Times film critic who lambasted the Sex and the City movie, has nothing but good things to say about Angelina Jolie in the new action thriller Wanted.

"Ms. Jolie has been perfectly cast as a super-scary, seemingly amoral assassin named (wait for it) Fox," Manohla Dargis writes. "Few American actresses, especially those with such pin-skinny arms, can make beating a guy to the ground look so easy and, yeah, man, like fun."

What a Fox!

Earlier today, we published another movie critic's glowing praise for Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.

Mark Millar Points to Wanted Sequel

More talk of a Wanted sequel is underway, days before the original premieres on theaters across the country.

Mark Millar - the comic book writer responsible for the Wanted series, on which the upcoming Angelina Jolie movie is based - said on his message boards that a follow-up is already in the planning stages:

Wanted 2 already being planned and they've asked me how I can develop some of the other stuff from the book into the sequel. We'll see what box office is like at the weekend, but everyone knows this is going to make a LOT of dough.

Based on early reviews, there's no denying that. We can't wait to see Wanted.

Reel Movie Reviews: Wanted

Movie critics cannot always be trusted, of course.

But when so many of them give such glowing reviews to a movie - and when that movie features a scantily clad Angelina Jolie is the role of an assassin - it's bound to catch your attention.
