Stephenie Meyer Confirms Twilight Sequel

As Twilight was busy raking in millions (and millions) this weekend, Summit Entertainment officially announced plans to make Stephenie Meyer's follow-up book, New Moon, into a movie.

The author herself confirmed as much in a statement yesterday:

"I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment," Meyer wrote. "I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on New Moon."

Kristen Stewart Feels No Pressure

Kristen Stewart says her job is done.

The actress claims she doesn't worry about fans' reaction to Twilight. While that seems difficult to digest, here's a look at what else the rising star had to say when asked about the pressure she faces in the movie:

Do you feel any pressure that this better live up to the hype?
I suppose so. It is when people ask me that. But when people don't ask, I don't think about it. My job is done. If it bombs, then I get to go back to doing what I'm used to doing. Small movies that I get the opportunity to do. If it's really successful as everyone thinks, then it will make it so much easier for me to do projects that I feel really passionate about but won't get money. Like, maybe now I can finance a movie. I'm proud of the movie, so at the end of the day, it's fine.

Bella Swan Photo

Did you find a strong connection with Bella from the outset?
I feel like every girl who reads this book projects herself onto her. And in this case it's a really self conscious role for me because I didn't have a really distinct character. She wasn't entirely different from me. She basically could have been me. I overanalyze things a bit more than she does. She's pretty self-assured. I identify with her in that she doesn't think she's anyt

Kristen Stewart Dishes on Bella Swan

Kristen Stewart stars as Bella Swan in next week's Twilight.

In the most recent issue of Teen Vogue, the actress talks about this beloved character, a recently relocated high school junior who falls in love with vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson):

“Bella’s a very relatable girl. She inhabits qualities that most girls have, even if it’s not on the surface… What I love about the story and what puts it on a different level is that it’s ‘chemical’…there’s nobody else for either of them. Period.”

Kristen Stewart Talks Twilight

Kristen Stewart is aware of what she's gotten herself into.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Twilight star made it clear that she knows the pressure her and the film are under. Here are excerpts of what she had to say:

On the hype surrounding Twlight: ''I just want to make sure Twilight's worth the ginormous attention it receives. I hate when people celebrate before you have something to celebrate about.''

On initial reaction to co-star Rob Pattinson: "I [couldn't] do the movie unless Rob [did] it. He got it, and we could, like, see each other."

On pressure of playing Bella: ''It's just surreal to be a crucial part of a machine like this. I'm sort of the vessel. The book is what it is because of these girls' obsession with [Edward] through me. If I wasn't right, I'd be persecuted, and put on a cross.''

Stephenie Meyer Talks Twilight

Stephenie Meyer

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with author Stephenie Meyer and asked her about the big screen adaption of Twilight.

Here's a bit of what she had to say:

Why did you demand that Edward and Bella's big kissing scene be toned down?
The problem is if you're going to continue with the other movies, there's a very gradual build to their physical relationship. And what Edward is capable of when he first meets Bella changes very much by the time he's become more committed to the relationship. They reshot the first kiss scene and actually added a special effect and some really cool things that added so much. And it's the only kiss scene.

You also asked for some minor script changes and insisted on Kellan Lutz's casting as Emmett. Did you always feel comfortable putting your foot down?
My personality is such that I have a really hard time being critical with other people. I can be critical of myself all day long. But I hate to step in and say, ''I really wish this was different.'' But it's been good for me just in general to have to speak up because I am so invested in this. I've forced myself, like with the Emmett situation, to take a step forward and say, ''I don't like this.'' And that's hard for me, but I'm glad of every time I did it and I don't think I stepped on too many toes and everyone seems to still like me.
