According to message boards at TFW2005, sources say the character of Alice (Isabel Lucas, pictured) "is a Pretender."

What does that mean, exactly? Wikipedia states that:

"A Pretender is a Cybertonian who can inhabit or exist alongside a remotely controlled robotic shell. This shell can appear humanoid, alien, monstrous or have a vehiclular form. Some advanced pretenders shells can even transform between several forms or combine with their controller's vehicle form. Others can shrink in size to pass for real humans or animals."

Transformers Sequel Shoots in Egypt

According to new reports, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has been shooting in Egypt.

Sources say:

"[The Transformers sequel] turned its cameras at the Pyramids in Egypt, and again in the upper Egyptian town of Luxor, near the famed Valley of the Kings.

This is significant for many reasons but mainly because it represents a rare move by two Hollywood studios, Paramount and DreamWorks, to connect to a country and culture that is perceived to be hostile the United States."

Look for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in theaters on June 26.

Optimus Prime Speaks!

We've heard from numerous people connected to Transformers 2.

But here's a unique interview: Ain't It Cool recently sat down with Peter Cullen, the voice actor behind Optimus Prime. Here's an excerpt from that conversation:

Q: Was there any inkling when you took on the role of Optimus Prime that this character was going to leave such a profound effect on people?
Cullen: I think so. When I saw the character breakdown, I said, "This is indeed a real hero. This is not like any hero we've ever seen before." He penetrated different zones. There was a sense of him. He wasn't just muscle and strength. He went beyond that. There was dignity and courage, and a soft spoken honor and integrity about him. Very well written.

So to apply those traits... they weren't necessarily implicated in the script; I just did an impression of my brother Larry, who served in the Marine Corps, and lowered the voice. I think we nailed it. The scripts were wonderfully written, and there was so much to absorb in a half-hour.

Another Transformers 2 Writer Speaks Out

Earlier this week, we quoted screenwriter Roberto Orci as saying that Transformers 2 would be darker than the original.

Now, fellow Transformers writer Alex Kurtzman has elaborated on the set up for the sequel.

“A boy and his car was really the emotional thrust of the first movie,” Kurtzman told MTV, “and we felt at the time that that made it a unique way into the story. We knew we couldn’t do the sequel until we had something as equally compelling for it.”

Sounds like they have that now. Kurtzman went on to say that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will delve far deeper into various back stories than the first film did.

“I think there’s an expectation that there will be a deeper mythology where the Transformers came from,” he said. “The key is not to get so mired in the mythology that it can’t propel the movie forward. We just touched the tip of the iceberg.”
