Nicolas Cage: Out of The Green Hornet

Perhaps we'll see The Green Hornet now.

According to Variety, Nicolas Cage is no longer attached to the role of the main villain in this upcoming comic book adaption.

No official word on the reason a deal fell through, but sources say the studio and the actor simply could not agree on terms; Columbia Pictures is now scrambling for a replacement.

The Green Hornet started shooting in Los Angeles this month; no scenes have been shot that contained Cage's character. Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou star in the movie, which comes out in December 2010.

Edward James Olmos Nabs Role in The Green Hornet

Edward James Olmos has been added to the cast of The Green Hornet.

The veteran actor, best known these days for having played Admiral Adama on Battlestar Galactica, will star opposite Seth Rogen in the July 2010 blockbuster.

Recently stopped outside an event, Olmos told the website Hollywood Snitch: "I'm on my way to do The Green Hornet. It'll be a lot of fun with Seth [Rogen], Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz."

Last week, Jay Chou was added to the movie's ever-growing cast.

Jay Chou Cast as Kato in The Green Hornet

The Green Hornet has finally found its Kato.

The upcoming Seth Rogen film will co-star Taiwanese singer and actor Jay Chou, who has been cast as the superhero's sidekick. Chou replaces Stephen Chow, who dropped out of the film in July.

The Green Hornet begins shooting in September and is scheduled to be released next summer.

Kwon Sang-woo Rumored for Role of Kato in The Green Hornet

The Green Hornet may have a new Kato, and it's a name unfamiliar to American movie goers.

According to The Korea Times, actor Kwon Sang-woo may be set for the role vacated by Stephen Chow last month.

The newspaper reports that the actor (pictured) recently passed an English audition (attended by star Seth Rogen) for the role. An official announcement is expected next month.

Nicolas Cage Rumored for Role in The Green Hornet

This is one movie rumor we hope does not come true.

Nicolas Cage is reportedly in negotiations to play the villain in next year's The Green Hornet, opposite Seth Rogen as the masked crime fighter.

This casting news follows talk that Cameron Diaz is in talks to portray Rogen's love interest in the film.

Roles will need to be filled soon, as producers are aiming for a fall start date. The studio must also replace Stephen Chow, who withdrew as the sidekick Kato earlier this month.

Not a great star for such a highly-anticipated comic book adaption. The Green Hornet is still planned for a summer 2010 release date.

Stephen Chow: Out of The Green Hornet

First, Stephen Chow was gonna direct The Green Hornet.

Then, he was simply gonna co-star in the movie as the title character's sidekick, Kato.

Now, the Hong Kong star will do neither.

"There was a mutual and amicable decision by both sides to move on," a Columbia Pictures spokesperon said in a statement. "We are out now to cast a new Kato and remain fully committed to Michel Gondry's  exciting vision for the film, which will begin production this September."

Seth Rogen signed on months ago for the main role in the movie, while Cameron Diaz is in negotiations for the female lead.

Cameron Diaz Rumored for The Green Hornet

This is a very cool casting rumor:

Cameron Diaz is the leading contender for the female lead in Green Hornet. If a deal is reached, the actress would star opposite Seth Rogen in the Michel Gondry-directed film.

Shooting will begin shortly, with a release date already scheduled for July 9, 2010.

Seth Rogen Comments on The Green Hornet, Stephen Chow

Seth Rogen is a busy, funny man.

The actor is in the process of hyping his upcoming movie, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. As he does so, however, Rogen is talking about a number of other films on his horizon.

For example: The Green Hornet. Here are excerpts from an interview with the star and Collider:

Q: For years, Stephen Chow has dismissed attempts to make movies in America. What did you say to him to get him to come stateside and make ‘The Green Hornet’?
Rogen: We gave him the goods man. Um, I don’t know. We didn’t know that. We had no idea if he had been approached by anyone. We had just heard he was very hard to get in contact with. But, we sent him the script and heard he wanted to do it. It was as simple as that.

A Funny Man

Q: One more question on Stephen Chow, did you guys have a different opinion on the direction of the project when you brought him in?
Rogen: Right now is we are just beginning the conversations. I mean, we haven’t started shooting yet. But, no, we wanted his input. We gave him the script in a very early phase hoping that he’d have a lot of ideas to add to it. When we do something, I don’t know if it’s the best idea ever and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to writers, but we send our scripts out to directors at a very early step in the process.

To the point where it just scares some directors off all together and they go, ‘Blugh!’ And some people get and say, ‘I get what they are going for and I have a lot o f ideas that can help build this’ And Stephen had a lot of ideas and that’s exactly what we wanted and I feel like – we want our directors to feel like it’s there movie too. We don’t want them to feel like they are just guys brought in to film what we wrote. We want them to feel like they can stand behind it also. So far we haven’t disagreed, we’re all just trying to figure out who he should be.

Kevin Smith Eases Fears About The Green Hornet

As numerous critics are fearful of what direction Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow will take The Green Hornet in, Kevin Smith is telling everyone to relax.

The writer/director, who just finished working with Rogen on Zack and Miri Make a Porno, recently said the project will satisfy fans of The Green Hornet comic book; he thinks the film will be an action comedy.

“It’s not… Superhero Movie. You know, the parody film," Smith said. "It’s certainly not that by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s more along the lines, from what he’s talked about it, of Pineapple Express. There are lots of jokes and there’s lots of action.”

Stephen Chow to Direct and Star in The Green Hornet

Green Hornet

The Green Hornet just got some street cred.

Stephen Chow, one of Asia's most popular box-office draws, will direct Seth Rogen and star opposite him as Kato in Columbia Pictures' upcoming adaption of this famous comic book. It's set for release June 25, 2010.

Questions have been raised about the movie, as Rogen isn't typical super hero material. But he and writing partner Evan Goldberg have insisted that fans of the original series will be satisifed with the final film product.

Matt Tolmach, co-president of Columbia Pictures said:

"When Seth, Evan, and Neal said they wanted Stephen Chow to be part of 'The Green Hornet,' it was a fantasy. Now that it's happening, it's almost too good to be true. Stephen's been a very important part of the Sony family for many years, so it's truly serendipitous for us to be moving forward with him directing the movie and starring as Kato."
