Street Fighter Sequel in the Works

Don't worry, movie fans. There are no explicit Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li spoilers below.

But it seems inevitable that a sequel to this new movie will soon be in the works. How come? Simply out, according to MTV:

“Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” ends with the most deliberate, beat-you-over-the-head sequel tease [we’ve seen] in a film in quite some time.

Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog

The movie's stars appear open to another installment of the franchise.

“I totally would love to go in there and work on some more skills,” said Kristin Kreuk, who played Chun-Li. “I loved training; it was so much fun.”

Added Chris Klein "There’s no question about it. To be involved in a franchise that has such depth - and such a wonderful fan base - is such a wonderful opportunity that comes around very, very infrequently. To have an opportunity to be a part of something like that is incredible.”

Street Fighter Movie Writer Speaks Out

Screenwriter Justin Marks recently talked about the upcoming video game adaptation of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.

Here's an excerpt of what he had to say:

Well the guy who wrote it, Steven E. de Souza was the writer on Die Hard, and directed it [the 1994 Street Fighter movie] too, I think it was just a function of what you see with movies like Batman and Robin opposed to Batman Begins, the creators of the former had a different Batman experience when they were young the 60’s TV show, and now in the Nolen era, the influence are things like Millar’s The Dark Knight Returns, and so that example is taken into the stratosphere.

While I'm definitely not comparing Street Fighter to Batman Begins, I grew up with the Street Fighter games, and I don't see them as cheesy or funny, but as serious characters that deserve to be explored in their own right.

Production Shots from Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li

We got our hands on some production shots from the upcoming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li thanks to Legend Films, the production company behind the upcoming Street Fighter.

Now we don't have much faith in this movie due to the disatrous 1994 Street Fighter starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.  However, at least from the follow production shots it looks like we have a hot Chun Li and a scary Balrog:

Street Fighter Role of Vega is Taboo

As a member of the Black Eyed Peas, Taboo often took a backseat to Fergie.

But in his role in Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li, the rapper will be taking center stage... as a killer.

"I'm the hit man," Taboo of his character, Vega, a boss in the original games. "Bison, who is the mob boss, hires me to kill Chun-Li."

Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, this Street Fighter follow-up stars Kristin Kreuk as lightning-kicking Chun-Li and Neal McDonough as M. Bison. Due in February 2009, the film also casts Chris Klein and Michael Clarke Duncan in the iconic roles of Nash and Balrog, respectively.

"Vega is a character that wore a mask and a claw in the video game, and he has a humongous cult following," Taboo told MTV. "I'm playing him a little edgier. In the video game, he's like a matador from Spain. He has tights on, and he's kind of flamboyant and androgynous.

Not in this movie. Now, he's hard-core and he's bringing it. I feel like I've maximized my character, and I gave a great performance."
