Spider-Man 4 Villain Revealed!

Just a few days after Dylan Baker confirmed his involvement in Spider-Man 4, word is spreading that the one and only villain in the forthcoming sequel will be none other than Baker's character's alter-ego, The Lizard!

Dylan Baker is The Lizard

Raimi has said that he fully intends to get back to basics after the disappointment fans voiced over the plethora of villains in Spider-Man 3, and after Baker confirmed he was returning as Dr. Curt Connors, it seems like a no-brainer for the villain to be The Lizard, one of Spidey's most infamous arch-nemeses.

While it's still just a rumor, credible sources claim it to be true. If so, expect there to be a formal announcement soon.

Spider-Man 4 will swing into theaters on May 5, 2011

Dylan Baker Confirmed for Spider-Man 4

Everyone who's followed Spider-Man's adventures on the comic page knows that Dr. Curt Connors is destined to become one of Spidey's most famed arch-nemeses: The Lizard.

Dylan Baker is The Lizard

We first caught a glimpse of Connors in Spider-Man 2, played by Dylan Baker. Since then, Connors has remained a background character- Peter Parker's one-armed college professor.

With each passing film, we get more and more anxious to know when Connors will make the transformation.

Last night, Baker confirmed at a Trick r' Treat screening that he will indeed be playing Dr. Connors in Spider-Man 4. However, when asked if he'll become the Lizard in this one, Baker joked that he'd be "just appearing in the background."

It is way too early to take this as a fact, though, as Sam Raimi is just starting to gear up production, and we have no idea whether Baker is allowed to disclose such a fan-frenzy-worthy detail.

Spider-Man 4 isn't due to hit theaters until May 5, 2011.

Raimi Finaly Gets a Clue

Sam Raimi isn't insane after all. He's just finally managed to pull his head out of his ass.

Sam Raimi press1

Recently interviewed in the print edition of DVD & Blu-ray Review, he had this to say about the complaints that there were too many villains in Spider-Man 3: "I think having so many villains detracted from the experience. I would agree with the criticism."

He also went on to say that he has learned some new lessons and storytelling tricks from working on his latest film, Drag Me to Hell.

"I think I've learned about the importance of getting to the point and the importance of having limitations, and I'm hoping to take that into a production where I'm actually allowed to explore with more of the tools to pull it off with a little more splendor. I hope I don't lose that edge that I've just found. That would be my approach to Spider-Man 4: to get back to the basics."

Well, thank god! Raimi has always been one of my favorite filmmakers, and it's because of the ingenuity and vitality of his earlier works. As of late, I had grown really tired of watching him sleep through big-budget drivel like Spider-Man 3. It's like he's been in a coma. A bloated, money-drenched coma. Sounds like Hell did him some good!

Bring on Spider-Man 4! With this new attitude, it could be the Spider-Man film we always wanted to see, but never got...

Spidey Gets a Date

Spider-Man 4 is a go. Director Sam-Raimi has told MTV that he hopes to begin filming the new sequel the first week of March, 2010.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had previously set the release date for the film to be on May 6, 2011, but until now, there had been no word on when production would commence.

"The production is starting to come together," Raimi told MTV, even though screenwriter Gary Ross is still hard at work on the script.

Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have been confirmed to be on board for the new sequel, but as of yet, there is no word on additional cast. "None of the casting has really taken place, but we're starting to think about that now," added Raimi.

Release Date Announced for Spider-Man 4

There was never any doubt that it would be made, but there's now a definitive release date for the next film in the Spider-Man franchise.

Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters a mere 19.5 months from now. It's scheduled to be released on May 5, 2011.

Tobey Maguire, of course, will don the Spider-Man outfit once more; while Kirsten Dunst reprises her role as Mary Jane; and Sam Raimi directs.

No word yet on the main villain Spidey will face. Got any suggestions?

James Vanderbilt to Pen Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6

While production on Spider-Man 4 won't begin until early 2010, and while the movie won't come out until May 6, 2011, the franchise is planning way ahead.

James Vanderbilt has already been chosen to pen the screenplay for Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6; he wrote the first draft of the script for the upcoming fourth installment.

Variety reports that the fifth and sixth movies have an interconnected storyline, conceivably one that might not involve Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst. Neither star is signed beyond the next film in the franchise.

Spider-Man 4 Finds New Screenwriter

An Oscar-nominated screenwriter will try his hand at penning Spider-Man 4.

According to Variety, Gary Ross has come aboard to rewrite the screenplay for fourth film in this franchise.

The publication says the deal is the result of his "growing relationship with Sony," as opposed to the fact that he's previously worked with star Tobey Maguire on Seabiscuit and Pleasantville; though we're sure that relationship can't hurt.

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios hope to start production on Spider-Man 4 before the year is through.

Spider-Man 4: Dennis Carradine is Back

According to Superhero Hype, Michael Papajohn (the actor, not the mediocre pizza chain) appeared at a panel at Wizard World Philadelphia and told fans that he would reprise his role as Dennis Carradine in Spider-Man 4.

Carradine was the carjacker that allegedly killed Uncle Ben in the original Spider-Man, only for them to tell us it was his partner Flint Marko / Sandman to commit the crime in Spider-Man 3.

We're hoping this means Carradine might become a villain and we're not doing yet another flashback to a scene that's been beaten worse than any horse we've seen.

Spider-Man 4 Production, Shooting Update

Contrary to previous reports, it appears unlikely Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 will NOT be shot back-to-back. Franchise director Sam Raimi shot down the rumors in an interview with Ain't It Cool News this week.

"No one's talked to me about making part 5 at this moment. Right now I'm hoping to make part 4," he said.

As for when Spider-Man 4 might start shooting, Raimi referred to it as "a never-ending process," adding:

"Basically we are talking about the story right now, shortly artists will come on and I'll start giving them shots to draw. We are supposed to start talking to a production designer soon, so it will just keep getting larger and larger."

Sony Pictures and Marvel recently announced a May 6, 2011 release date for Spider-Man 4. This would mean production would need to commence some time next year.

Sam Raimi Remains Hush on Spider-Man 4 Villains

Sam Raimi, who will direct Spider-Man 4, recently spoke to Sci-Fi Wire about the upcoming blockbuster.

He said the script ought to be complete within a few months. However, when asked about the bad guys that will appear in the fourth installment of the franchise, Raimi remained mum:

I'm not at liberty to discuss the villains yet. I think I have to wait till the finished screenplay, and then it'd really be up to Sony Pictures and the producers to determine when they want to release that information. To them, it's usually a big, a big, big thing, a big moment where they want to present the villain with the proper respect or fear that he or she deserves.
