New Tone Expected for Sex and the City Movie Sequel

No script exists for the eventual sequel to Sex and the City: The Movie.

However, the movie's writer and director, Michael Patrick King, told E! that fans should not expect anything as dramatic as Carrie being left at the altar.

“In the last movie, I thought [the fans] wanted to see an epic and violently tragic love story, and drama, but I don’t think you go to that candy store twice,” King said. “You can’t try to do what you did already, so you come up with a different tone that you like.”

Evan Handler Speaks on Sex and the City Sequel

All four leading ladies have signed on for the Sex and the City movie sequel.

But what about the men?

Evan Handler, who portrays Charlotte's husband Harry Goldenblatt, is worried that his character will never see the light of day in the upcoming follow-up.

"They could kill me off before the movie even starts," the actor said to E! Online, adding that he is yet to receive word about his status. "It's always possible that Harry has had a massive coronary and Charlotte is set free."

Would Handler want to appear in the sequel if asked?

"I'd love to. It was a blast," he said. "Being involved with something that got so much attention and so much adoration was great. Whatever needs to be worked out is so far out of my hands, I hope they work it out. I hope they want me to be in it, and I hope schedule-wise I can."

Sex and the City Sequel: Confirmed!

John Corbett Considers Role in Sex and the City Sequel

Might John Corbett return as Aidan Shaw in the inevitable Sex and the City sequel?

The actor was recently asked that question and seemed to salivate at the thought of joining the franchise.

"I’d relish that moment more than you can ever imagine," Corbett said. "There may even be a murder involved. It’s payback. I think Mr. Big deserves it. It’d make a great ending to the movie."

He's kidding. We hope.

Sex and the City Movie Sequel Update: 2010 Shoot Planned

We're gonna go out on a limb and assume that most readers don't mind our constant updates on a Sex and the City movie sequel.

Star Sarah Jessica Parker recently expounded on the possibility, telling MTV that filming will likely get underway in the summer of 2010. Here are highlights from the interview:

MTV: Where do we stand on a sequel today?

Parker: We are talking about it. We've had very general conversations about the idea. That's the big hurdle: the idea. The studio is very enthusiastic, which is lovely and seductive. We're at the place where [writer/director] Michael [Patrick King] has a wealth of stories so now it's, "We think we have this story and how do we put this together and are we completely sure that it's the right thing to do?" That's challenging. I would do these forever but is it right for the audience? Is this the story that we can tell well? These are the questions I have to ask myself or I'm not being fair to the franchise. That's where we are.

MTV: Would you shoot it next summer?
Parker: I think it's a realistic timetable. That's when we'd start shooting to be out in 2010. But that means we need to figure this out in the next couple of months.

Kim Cattrall Confirms Sex and the City Movie Sequel

No shocker here, but still movie news worth reporting:

"Yes, there will be a sequel," she told her interviewer, who was actually Spice Girl Melanie Brown.

The original Sex and the City movie grossed $153 million. When asked in September about the prospects of a follow-up, star Sarah Jessica Parker said:

"It’s all about the story. If we can’t tell a story that’s really worthy of an audience, then we won't do it."

Sounds like a story is in the works.

Stars Fuel Sex and the City Sequel Rumors

Here's the latest on Sex and the City sequel rumors:

Sarah Jessica Parker told Us Weekly earlier this week that she and writer Michael Patrick King will "have that conversation sooner rather than later" about the possibility of a second movie in the franchise.

"It’s all about the story. If we can’t tell a story that’s really worthy of an audience, then we won't do it," the actress said. "We've been really lucky at this point. We’ve been in people’s good graces for a long time, and we take that very seriously. So that’s the biggest challenge, the story."

Cynthia Nixon, meanwhile, said has a few ideas for her character.

"I would love to see her and Carrie and Charlotte and Samantha all go off on some wild mad cap adventure somewhere," she said.

And what about Ms. Jones?
"The sky is the limit," Kim Cattrall said. "I love Samantha single - she has way too much fun."

Count on it, readers: another Sex and the City movie is all but assured.

Sex and the City Sequel Rumors Grow Strong

Will there be a Sex and the City movie sequel?

Writer/director Michael Patrick King recently told Entertainment Weekly that he had no plans to make a follow-up to this summer's big screen adaption of the HBO series, but $153 million of domestic earnings at the box office will change anyone's mind.

"It doesn't feel done to me at all. It deels like it generated a new burst of enthusiasm for these characters," King said.

As for ideas, the writer says he isn't thinking too hard at the moment - but "if I tipped my head right now, ideas would come pouring out." And a possible release date for another glance into the lives of Carrie and company?

"The summer after next might be right," King said.

Sex and the City Sequel News: A Focus on Samantha?

Take this rumor with a grain of salt the size of Samanth's libido, but sources say a Sex and the City movie sequel is in the works... but Carrie will not be the focus of it!

Rumors are flying that Kim Cattrall has pitched a plot for the follow-up that would put her character in the spotlight.

"[Sarah Jessica Parker] threatened to boycott the sequel if Warner Brothers agreed to Kim's plan. Sarah said she'd withdraw her producer credit and put pressure on Cynthia Nixon and Kirstin Davis to not participate," the source said.

Of course, if Parker is truly against this story line, she can nix it. The actress has the final say on any Sex and the City movie script.

Sex and the City Movie Sequel Talk Heats Up

During an HBO summer session with television and movie critics yesterday, executive admitted that there's “enormous interest” by Warner Bros and New Line studios to do another Sex and the City movie.

“They’re trying with our help to put that together now. When that happens, how long between, can’t say," said Michael Lombardo, HBO’s programming group and West Coast operations president. "But there’s absolutely interest. I think everybody associated with that project was really heartened by the enthusiasm from the fans, and by the new fans to the show.”

The blockbuster box office receipts probably didn't hurt, either.
