Yesterday, Sam Rockwell spoke on his role as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2.
But a picture is said to be worth a thousands words, making this an even better preview of the character.
Below, Rockwell is seen as Hammer, the multi-billionaire rival of Tony Stark in the highly-anticipated Iron Man sequel. It will be released on May 7, 2010.
Mickey Rourke will star in Iron Man 2 as Whiplash.
Scarlett Johansson makes a sexy appearance as Black Widow in the sequel.
Both these roles have been hyped to death online, while Sam Rockwell has gone relatively unnoticed.
The actor takes on the part of Justin Hammer in next summer's blockbuster, and he revealed a couple tidbits about him in a recent interview.
"He's a rival to Tony Stark and he's an arms dealer and, you know, he's in cahoots with a couple of people. He’s kind of a shyster," Rockwell told MoviesOnline. "I think he’s essentially he's a fan of Tony’s, but he doesn’t get the attention he wants from Tony and that's where I think it starts to go wrong for Justin a little bit."
Rockwell did say he thinks Hammer and Stark are similar.
"I think that ultimately Justin is probably more insecure and so that might be his downfall. And his ambition may be stronger in a way. So it’s a trap that Justin might fall into."
It's an Iron Man sequel rumor no more:
Sam Rockwell will, indeed, portray Justin Hammer in the 2010 follow-up film.
“We had a phone conversation about it... They were like, we don’t have a script but this is the deal and this is the character," Rockwell told MTV.
Rockwell said he signed on, though, because he was a fan of the original Iron Man, which his girlfriend - the gorgeous Leslie Bibb - played a role in.
As for this Justin Hammer fellow?
“He’s a rival [of Tony Stark],” Rockwell said. “He takes over all the weapons stuff after Tony’s left.... I don’t know if he takes over Stark Industries... He’s a money dude. That’s about all I can say.”
Iron Man might have found his new arch rivals.
Rumors are swirling that Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell will be cast in the sequel, which is scheduled for a May 2010 release.
Rourke, who is currently garnering Oscar buzz for his role in The Wrestler, would play a tattooed Russian named Ivan. He eventually becomes Whiplash, a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils.
Rockwell would portray Justin Hammer, a billionaire businessman that often feuds Tony Stark. You can currently see the actor in Frost/Nixon, playing David Frost's researcher, writer James Reston, Jr.
