S. Darko: Direct to DVD!

The good news? The sequel to Donnie Darko, S. Darko, is still a go.

The bad news? It's going straight to DVD, due to come out on April 28.

Daveigh Chase will still star in the film as  Samantha Darko, while her rebellious best friend, Corey Richardson, will be played by Briana Evigan.

It's time to meet Samantha Darko.

The next chapter of the Donnie Darko saga picks up with his younger sister. She's stuck with a broken family, which doesn't bode well for those around S. Darko.

Daveigh Chase - best known for her role on Big Love - has been cast as Samantha Darko in the Donnie Darko sequel, S. Darko.

Chase actually won an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain at the age of 12, beating out Mike Myers, Colin Farrell, Willem Dafoe and Daniel Day-Lewis for her role as Samara in The Ring. She portrayed the younger sister of Donnie Darko in the original film, as well.

From what we can gather, here's the synopsis for S. Darko, will will hit theaters some time in 2009:

In the wake of her brother Donnie's death, Samantha goes on a road trip to Hollywood with her best friend Corey. However, their journey is cut short when the car breaks down, leaving them stranded in small desert town.

From there, a meteorite crashes nearby and Samantha is haunted by bizarre visions, indicating the end of the universe. She soon discovers a disturbing secret from her past, as she takes it upon herself to save the world.

British Singer Signed on for S. Darko Soundtrack

British singer Ed Harcourt (pictured) will reportedly provide the score for the forthcoming Donnie Darko sequel, S. Darko.

Harcourt told Entertainment Weekly that while he never met director Chris Fisher, he submitted three pieces of music for consideration after reading the S. Darko script, and was excited to learn that he was hired the gig. The movie is slated for release in 2009.

The singer/song writer said he's already hard at work on a variety of music influenced by the music of Autechre, Aphex Twin, Phillip Glass, and Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. His goal: to make it "surreal and psychedelic, just like the movie."

Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan Sign on to Donnie Darko Sequel

Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan have joined the cast of S. Darko, the sequel to cult classic Donnie Darko.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Westwick and Justin Chatwin also have role in the film, which stars Daveigh Chase, as she reprises her role from the original.

Here's a quick synopsis of the follow-up: Set seven years after the first film, it follows Donnie Darko's sister, Samantha, who, in dealing with her broken family, flees town with her best friend (Evigan) when they are plagued by bizarre visions

Berkley is playing a speed freak-turned-Jesus freak whose sentiments about ridding the world of its exponential sin are rivaled only by her infatuation with her dreamy pastor.

Evigan is best known for her starring role in Step Up 2 the Streets.

Donnie Darko Sequel to be Titled S. Darko

A Cloverfield sequel? An Iron Man sequel?

Neither of these developments come as a surprise.

But we've just learned that cult classic Donnie Darko â€" the film that catapulted Jake Gyllenhaal to fame â€" is also set for a follow-up version.

Reportedly, the sequel will be called S. Darko, as director Chris Fisher had the following to say about the project, which will not be including Richard Kelly, the writer-director of the original:

"I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality."

Picking up seven years after the original, the plot will follow Donnie's sister Samantha on a road trip to Los Angeles, during which she is plagued by a series of bizarre visions.

Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Darko the younger, while Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star.
