Ron Perlman Pretty Much Confirms Hellboy 3

If we can be treated/suffer through a third film in The Mummy franchise, it's prety much a given that a third movie in the Hellboy franchise is on the way.

Now, star Ron Perlman has spoken more forcefully than ever on the possiiblity of a Hellboy 3. In a recent interview, he said:

"This ride we're on, opening number one at the box office, that's just icing on what was already the most delicious cake I'd ever bitten into," Perlman told Moviehole, commenting on the likelyhood of another installment.

"Nothing's been announced but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a third, particularly on the heels of Hellboy II's success. And I know Guillermo has an incredibly well-articulated idea about what the third movie needs to be. It'll answer a lot of questions. It almost needs to happen because with the ideas that he has about closing the trilogy, it would be a shame for it go unfinished."

Ron Perlman Speaks on Hellboy 3

The folks at IGN recently caught up with Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman.

They asked the veteran actor about the possibility of Hellboy 3, among other topics. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Q: How gratifying was it to see the success of Hellboy II in the opening weekend, after moving to a different studio and all of that?
Ron Perlman: Incredibly gratifying. That's rarefied air and when you get to be my age, you realize it's not only something that you never take for granted, but a tiny little fraction of those of us who throw in to this adventure ever get the chance to experience something like that. It's so overwhelming that I haven't even begun to take it in. Luckily, I'm doing Sons of Anarchy and I jumped right from the frying pan into the fire.

Yesterday we shot six scenes, so I didn't have time to think about much but learning my lines and delivering them. But yeah, I cannot tell you how vindicated we all feel; what a tough struggle it was for Guillermo to get the movie made with me and seven years of struggling. You know, we got a first one out and it was a modest success. We got a second one out and the stories are… you could fill volumes, just telling the stories about what it was like to get that movie made and here we are. The world has given us this cosmic hug and it feels really good.

Q: Does a third one seem in the offing? Is it something you guys have talked about?
Perlman: Well, I certainly think that it's not without the realm of possibility at this point. Yeah, I can only imagine the discussions that are taking place in some other dark room right now.

Ron Perlman Speaks on Hellboy II

Veteran actor Ron Perlman has seen his career resuscitated thanks to the role of Hellboy. On July 11, he'll star in the sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

In an effort to shed insight on his career and this character, Perlman recently sat down with Superherohype.com to answer a few questions:

Can you talk about your relationship with director Guillermo del Toro, how you first met and how it's evolved?
Ron Perlman: It's something I don't want to overstate because it's a gift from God. I mean, I regard this as some otherworldly, amazing stroke of good fortune, and if I talk about it too much or belabor it too much, I feel like I'm in danger of making it go away.

The minute we met, we knew that however many movies we did or didn't do together, we dug each other, and without the benefit of bloodlines, we were going to be like brothers. Whether we are working together or not, there's this wonderful friendship that's the dearest part of the whole thing to me. If you can believe there's something more dear than getting to play Hellboy in two movies.

Hell of a Negotiation

Ron Perlman is ready to unleash Hell - in a good way - in Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Most people who see this movie will presumably have seen the first movie, but some people won't have. What would you like them to leave this movie with as far as Hellboy's character arc?
Perlman: Well, first and foremost, I just hope they have the time of their life watching the movie, because whatever else it is, it's meant to entertain and meant to have somebody be someplace for two hours and not think about the rest of the sh*t that we live in, of which sometimes there's even too much to process.

But you get so much more in any Guillermo del Toro movie and I could stand here for two hours just addressing the other levels that are being harkened too along the way. Mostly, I'd like people to say, "Man, I really, really liked the first movie but the second one rocks!" That's what I like.
