Daniel Craig Answers Quantum of Solace Questions

Daniel Craig was kind enough to sit down with ComingSoon.net last week and answer a series of questions from readers of that site.

Here's an excerpt from the interview, focusing on the iconic character Craig is taking on:

How do you feel James Bond evolves as a character in this movie?
I hope kind of well. There's no sort of clear answer. He's a spy. I think he hardens. I think is slightly distressing. We touch upon it in "Casino Royale" and I don't want to get all kind of deep and silly about it. But, he has his heart broken and suddenly you kind of see this broken man and I find that very interesting. But that can't be James Bond, because he can't be broken. He can't, because if he was broken it wouldn't work. It's finding that person that we can trust but not and that's something I wanted to make sure that we put into the first film that I don't want.

Shaken, Not Stirred

James Bond will always like his martinis, as this Quantum of Solace scene shows.

Someone just said to me, "well he's a bit like a bad guy" and I was like, "Yeah, well he kills people for a living." I mean where's the ambiguity? There's no ambiguity in that and it's up to the audience to decide whether or not they think it's right that he kills that person at that particular time. So the development of the character is one that we know this is what he does, this is how he gets it done. This is how he behaves in certain circumstances and hopefully he's open enough as a character for us to believe that when he hits something new he's discovering it as we're discovering it.

I'm very nervous about answering questions about kind of how I discover characters or where we take characters too because I think it's so much about what the audience perceives and how they believe it or how they don't believe it. I took something we did in "Casino Royale" and I've taken him on and he's moved on but you know he's still damaged and f*cked up and all those sort of things that you know he'd hopefully was in the first one.

And you know he kills people for a living. He must wake up in the night occasionally in a bit of cold sweat, but maybe we'll never see that, I dunno, who knows?

While Keys says her theme song is  "like this crazy kind of energetic hard song with valleys and peaks," she was even more excited to talk about the film itself. The Grammy winner got to see an early screening of Quantum of Solace.

“I can tell you that it’s damn good. I’ve never seen a movie with a car chase, a boat chase, and a plane chase all in the same flick! It’s really good!”

Major Quantum of Solace Spoiler!

The most recent news surrounding the next James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, is that its release date has been moved back a week. It will now premiere on November 14.

But that's nothing compared to the information we've uncovered on the follow-up to Casino Royale!

Significant Quantum of Solace spoiler warning, but what follows is insight into what one site claims is the ending to the film...

AOL News has published an article that delves into new Bond villain, Dominic Greene (played by Mathieu Amalric).

"He was supposed to have a secret skill," Amalric said. "But we had this idea that maybe James Bond would be more surprised if the villain doesn’t know how to fight. Sometimes with anger you can be much more dangerous than with skill."

Dominic Greene

Mathieu Amalric is James Bond's nemesis in Quantum of Solace.

Reportedly, the finale of Quantum of Solace takes place in the Atacama Desert of Chile, as Daniel Craig’s Bond pursues Greene throughout his eco-hotel headquarters.

According to AOL, Greene meets his demise in the movie "after getting the bad end of his own ax in a fight, [he] limps alone in a stark desert [and] stumbles to the red, rocky ground.’"

Perhaps the man should have learned how to fight.

Quantum of Solace Release Date Pushed Back

The effects of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince being shelved until July 2009 are still being felt.

While Twilight jumped on the chance to move up a month and take over Potter's release date of November 21, the next James Bond movie has gone in the opposite direction.

Originally scheduled to open on November 7 - in order to give 007 and company plenty of time to haul in the box office before Potter fever takes over - Quantum of Solace will now be released a week later.

"We believe November 14 is a great date that allows us to play straight through Thanksgiving and right into Christmas," Sony executive Jeff Blake said of the date, a week before Thanksgiving, that Bond films typically open on. "We believe this decision will give the public a wider opportunity to see the film over the holiday."

This poster is still valid: Quantum of Solace will be out in November.
