Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the big-budget video game adaptation follows a rogue prince (Gyllenhaal) who reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (Arterton). Together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Prince of Persia opens May 28, 2010.

First Look: Ben Kingsley in Prince of Persia

Just a week ago we got our first look at Jake Gyllenhaal in The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Now thanks to Coming Soon, we have a first look at the film's villain, Nizam, played by the Academy Award-winning Ben Kingsley.

We gotta give it to Kingsley, he's looking pretty good at 65 and we trust no actor more with the big screen adaptation of one of our favorite video games of all time.

First Look: Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia

Thank you, Entertainment Weekly!

First, the magazine published the first photos of Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2 earlier this week.

Now, the publication has released a picture of Jake Gyllenhaal, as Prince Dastan, in Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming epic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

The movie will be released on May 28, 2010.

As Prince Dastan

Gyllenhaal told the magazine he was excited for a chance to get involved in some serious action.

"I'm tired of taking myself so seriously," said the actor, who sword-fought, climbed walls, and jumped off of buildings as part of the prince's quest to find an enchanted dagger and turn back time. "It's nice when a stuntman turns to you and is like, 'Actors don't normally do this.'"

Jake Gyllenhaal: Shirtless, Buff for Prince of Persia

The production on Prince of Persia has been delayed a bit, as the film won't be released until 2010.

Still, below is a photo of star Jake Gyllenhaal on set - and looking ripped!

Jake Gyllenhaal

The actor plays Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia.

He must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Prince of Persia Delayed to 2010

Disney has pushed back the release of its movie adapation of the popular video game, The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time from June 19, 2009 to Memorial Weekend 2010 according to Variety.

According to Disney, they need plenty of time for post-production for this special effects-ladden blockbuster.  However, getting out of the way of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's opening of June 26, 2009 doesn't hurt either.  However, it's new opening weekend puts it head to head with Shrek Goes Fourth.  Disney just can't catch a break.

Prince of Persia is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, directed by Mike Newell, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, and Alfred Molina.

Shooting is currently underway in Morocco and will next be in London.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton will star in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' adaptation of the popular video game.

In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will portray Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess. As The Hollywood Reporter states, Gyllenhaal will next appear in Brothers with Tobey Maguire.

British actress Arterton is relatively new on the film scene, but is already generating heat for her work in Guy Ritchie's upcoming RocknRolla and the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace.

Orlando Bloom: The Prince of Persia

Orlando Bloom knows all about major film franchises. Can you say Pirates of the Caribbean?

Now, the actor has landed the lead role in the next big budget franchise, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Bloom will reportedly rake in $40 million for all three pictures. The first will be directed by Mike Newell and is set for a June 2009 release. Filming will start in Morocco.
