Pirates of the Caribbean 4 News

While Pirates of the Caribbean 4 was only first confirmed last week, and while no script is finalized yet, it's never too early to speculate on the upcoming blockbuster.

We know Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow. According to Cinema Blend, two rumors about the film are now making the rounds:

• Captain Jack will have brother, possibly played by Sacha Baron Cohen or Russell Brand;
• Tim Burton will direct.

It's way to early to consider these rumors as anything close to facts, but they're fun to consider, aren't they?

Here's one thing we know aboutPirates of the Caribbean 4: Captain Jack Sparrow will be involved. Prominently.

Johnny Depp has announced plans to star in a trio of huge movies over the next couple years. Here's a rundown of each and our take on Depp's role in them:

YAY:

- Depp will play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s remake of Alice In Wonderland. Based on past collaborations between these two, seems like the ideal character anr project for Depp.

NAY:

- Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film. Really? Apparently the critical lambasting of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was meaningless to the studio (seriously, that movie absolutely sucked!).

EH?

- Depp will also play the iconic idekick Tonto in an upcoming movie version of The Lone Ranger. We'll refrain from commenting until we learn what actor will take on the part of the iconic title character. But this seems like a random, outdated series to bring to the big screen.

Come on now.

We know Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End made enough money to buy up most third world nations, but the film was rightfully panned by movie critics.

Nevertheless, JimHillMedia.com says scripts for Pirates of the Caribbean 4 are in the works.

The leading candidate "would toss the Elizabeth & Will characters [portrayed by Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, respectively] over the side in favor of doing a bawdy buddy picture which would star Jack Sparrow & Barbossa. Where both captains of the Black Pearl would initially be competing for the exact same prize."

The site added: "But eventually all the double crossing would have to stop as these two rivals were then forced to join forces in order to defeat some supernatural terror."
