You may have to, as E! Online reports that the 14-year-old child star - who turns 15 on February 23 - is in talks to portray Jane in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.

“There were no auditions,” a source said. “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth.”

Jane is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series. Think Fanning is right for this role?

No New Moon for Vanessa Hudgens

Sorry, High School Musical fans.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Vanessa Hudgens is not up for a role in the Twilight sequel, New Moon, contrary to recent rumors.

Sources inside Summit Entertainment and Hudgens' camp told the magazine that producers aren't looking at the young actress for the upcoming follow-up.

At this moment, the only actors confirmed for the movie are Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Vanessa Hudgens Auditions for Role in New Moon

From High School Musical 3: Senior Year to New Moon

Numerous sources are reporting that Vanessa Hudgens has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater in the upcoming sequel to Twilight.

Hudgens, New Moon

Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen in the franchise, told reporters on the Golden Globes red carpet last night that Hudgens would "be great," for the role of Leah Clearwater.

The actress added another tidbit on the status of New Moon: "I hear they're doing another rewrite. I'm with you guys - I'm so excited to read it."

Taylor Lautner Speaks on New Moon Role

It's official: Taylor Lautner is returning to the Twilight franchise for New Moon.

The actor will reprise his role as Jacob in the sequel; here's what he recently had to say about the news:

On retaining the role of Jacob Black: “I’m very excited. Twilight was an incredible experience and I’m just stoked to be back and work with the whole team again — the cast and crew. I’m very excited to work with Chris Weitz, he’s an extremely talented director so it’s going to be great.”

On his preparation for Jacob in New Moon: “I knew I was going to have to [put on weight] for the sequels, because Jacob is requires it. So I started working out the day after Twilight came out.”

On how he’s putting on the weight: “I do everything possible and eat as much as possible and drinking my protein shakes. It’s very important. I’m trying to stay as clean as possible (i.e. no fast food restaurants!).”

Confirmed: Taylor Lautner to Return in New Moon

Taylor Lautner can breathe a sigh of relief.

Following weeks of rumors that he may be replaced in New Moon, the highly-anticipated sequel to Twilight, director Chris Weitz has confirmed that Lautner will be back in the role of Jacob.

“I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer,” Weitz posted on author Stephenie Meyer’s official website, stepheniemeyer.com.

Taylor Lautner

The author herself is very much behind the decision, adding:

“My first priority was always what was best for New Moon - what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.”

Taylor Lautner Expected to Reprise Role in New Moon

In the next few days, Summit Entertainment is expected to announce its cast for New Moon, the next film based on Stephenie Meyer's successful follow-up to Twilight.

Kristen Stewart will return as Bella Swan; while Robert Pattinson has a lock on his role of Edward Cullen.

But rumors have been swirling about Taylor Lautner's status in the sequel. His character of Jacob is greatly expanded in New Moon... literally!

Totally Taylor

''Jacob is a totally different character in New Moon,'' said Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of both Twilight films. ''He's a foot taller and huge — and he's supposed to look 25. It's really a question of whether or not the same actor can play the role.''

Lautner says he's already packed 19 pounds onto his frame, however, and Entertainment Weekly reports that he's now likely to reprise the role of Jacob.

"Everyone would love to keep him. We all think he's the loveliest person ever," Rosenberg said.

Michael Copon Campaigns for Role of Jacob Black

We've already heard from Taylor Lautner, as he campaigns to reprise the role of Jacob Black in New Moon.

Now, Michael Copon - the actor rumored to be favored for the part in the sequel to Twilight - is making his case for the role.

In a new interview, Copon said:

I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.

Taylor Lautner Campaigns for New Moon Role

Taylor Lautner is unsure if he'll reprise the role of Jacob Black in New Moon, as reports indicate that producers want a different actor for the Twight sequel.

"I have been working out. I've been working out since the day we finished filming 'Twilight.' I just weighed myself today; I've put on 19 pounds," Lautner told MTV, promising fans he'll be big enough to fit Stephenie Meyer's physical description of Jacob in the second volume of this series. "I'm guaranteeing Weitz 10 more [pounds] by filming. I get to meet Chris on Friday, in two days, so I'm excited. I'm going to have lunch with him."

As for rumors that Michael Copon is being considered for the role?

"I've heard a few things," said Lautner. "I don't really know too much to comment on it. As far as I know, I haven't been told 'no' yet, so it's still all up in the air."

New Moon Casting Question: Taylor Lautner or Michael Copon?

As previously reported, Taylor Lautner is not a lock to portray Jacob in the upcoming sequel to Twilight, New Moon.

Instead, 26-year old Scorpion King 2 actor Michael Copon is being considered for the role.

We'll report on the final casting decision once it comes in, but you tell us:

Who do you wanna see in the role of Jacob, Taylor Lautner or Michael Copon?

New Moon Director, Cast Update

Catherine Hardwicke is out as director of New Moon. Chris Weitz is in.

And Twilight author Stephenie Meyer wants to assure fans that the latter will be a perfect fit for the franchise.

"I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible," Meyer recently wrote to fans of the series. "He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy."

Edward and Isabella

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will return for New Moon. That's for certain, at least.

But will fans be happy about possible cast changes in New Moon?

The movie's studio won't commit to Taylor Lautner's return as Jacob, a role that is featured prominently in the follow-up. Michael Copon, best known for his role in Scorpion King 2, is reportedly the leading contender for the part.
