New Moon and Blind Side Take Home the Turkey

New Moon was king of the hill again in its second weekend, even though it dropped 70% to take in $42.5 million over Thanksgiving weekend.

New Moon still 1

After New Moon set records in its first few days of release, the substantial drop was enough to top the box office for an overall increase in business since last year.

Coming in second, the Sandra Bullock-starring real life inspired The Blind Side did astoundingly well, raking in $40.1 million over the three-day period, a 17% increase from last weekend. Produced for less than $30 million, the sports-based drama has grossed an astounding $100.3 million in just ten days.

2012 remained in third place this week, pulling in about $18 million and a total gross of roughly $139 million after three weeks in theaters.

The dismally reviewed Robin Williams and John Travolta comedy Old Dogs took in $16.8 million over the three-day weekend and $24.1 million since opening on Wednesday. Made on a budget of about $35 million, that's not a bad opening, but it is rather disappointing when compared to similar PG-rated Disney comedies that have opened Thanksgiving weekend in the past.

Here's a quick look at the top five this past week:

  1. New Moon                $42,500,000
  2. The Blind Side            $40,125,000
  3. 2012                            $18,000,000
  4. Old Dogs                    $16,846,000
  5. A Christmas Carol     $16,003,000

Pattinson Fans Rejoice: "Robsessed" Documentary on the Way

Robert Pattinson was a nobody just a few short years ago. The monumental success of Twilight catapulted him from character actor obscurity to leading man super-stardom overnight.

With New Moon breaking box-office records and the Twilight frenzy in full swing, UK distributor Revolver is cashing in with a documentary on the young star, titled Robsessed.

Robsessed cover

Touting the tagline "inside the life of Robert Pattinson," the doc is sure to find an audience amongst the obsessive teen crowds that are fueling the success of the popular vampire franchise. Revolver is pushing the documentary as an iTunes digital download in Pattinson's native UK, but plans to release theatrically in America.

As much as the project sounds like it's nothing more than the first quarter of an over-hyped E! True Hollywood Story episode, the DVD cover promises to all but guarantee massive tween response.

New Moon Sucks the Life Out of the Competition!

New Moon proved to be the box-office vampire everyone thought it was going to be... and more.

The Twilight sequel raked in a whopping $140.7 million in its first three days of release, to become the third-biggest opening weekend domestically of all time.

New Moon Scene

After setting a record for the highest gross for Thursday midnight screenings, New Moon opened Friday with a whopping $72.7 million, setting another record for largest single day opening. Coupled with $118.1 million in international receipts, the Twilight sequel earned a whopping $258.8 million worldwide.

Coming in second, surprisingly, was the Sandra Bullock real-life drama The Blind Side, with $34.5 million, which booted Roland Emmerich's empty explosion extravaganza 2012 to number three with only $26.5 million. That's a rather hard fall for 2102, after its solid $65 million opening, bringing its one week gross up to $108.2 million, still well below its estimated $200 million price tag.

Here's a quick breakdown of the top 5 this weekend:

  1. New Moon             $140,700,000
  2. The Blind Side          $34,510,000
  3. 2012                          $26,500,000
  4. Planet 51                  $12,600,000
  5. A Christmas Carol   $12,230,000

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson at the New Moon Premiere!

New Moon, the sequel to the popular teen fantasy drama Twilight, had its premiere Monday night in Westwood, CA. The Hollywood Gossip got some candid shots of stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who did not walk the red carpet together, despite (or because of) persistent rumors of a real-life romance budding between the two.

The two stars had plenty to focus on alone, with the thousands of screaming fans that showed up at the premiere, many of them camping out as early as the previous Thursday to secure a front-row seat.

"You can't really prepare for something like this," said Robert Pattinson. "I don't know how the Beatles felt, but this is kind of..." Screaming fans interrupted Pattinson's train of thought.

"I think very few human beings can ever get this same feeling," he concluded.

New Moon opens in theaters everywhere tomorrow, starting with advanced screenings beginning at midnight tonight.

Kristen Stewart on How to Break Up With a Vampire

While Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are busy discussing whether Edward Cullen or Jacob Black would win in a fight, Kristen Stewart is all about the work.

Stewart recently told ComingSoon.net about the difficulties of pulling off the momentous break-up scene between Bella and Edward.

Bella and Edward

"Reading it, it's so iconic. There's nothing like that moment in reality even. It's not even like a normal breakup scene. I know what's it like to get broken up with but I don't know what it's like to get broken up with by a vampire who I've now been physically and chemically altered by," said Stewart.

"Suddenly you take an addict, you take whatever they're addicted to away from them and there's withdrawal. So that was the most intimidating scene in the entire movie. I don't know how to explain how I did it... I mean, the breakup scene that I did with Rob, that's not where it happens yet. That's not where I was intimidated. That was still, like she doesn't even believe it yet. It's when he goes, the absence of him that I was scared of," she continues.

"Basically, literally having the equivalent of like a death scene but stay alive and get up and keep walking. It was hard. It was really intimidating. I still don't know. I've seen the movie. I really like the movie but I don't know if anyone ever really would've been able to bring that to life the way that Stephenie [Meyer] writes it."

Sounds intimidating. Miss Stewart has plenty more insight into Bella's character in the rest of the interview, which you can read in full over at ComingSoon.net.

You can make up your own mind as to whether she pulled off the break-up when New Moon hits theaters on November 20.

Taylor Lautner on Edward Vs. Jacob: "Still Up in the Air"

While Robert Pattinson says Edward Cullen would definitely win in a fight with Jacob Black, Taylor Lautner isn't so sure.

Jacob Black Topless

"We were actually discussing this on set, it's funny we were like "who would win in a fight between Jacob and Edward," because there's a scene outside Bella's house where Edward grabs my shoulder and he's mad at me and Jacob doesn't take that. So he takes his arm and rips it off," says Lautner.

"And at that moment, Jacob would transform into a wolf and we're having this discussion that got really deep, we're like "if I were to poof into a wolf right now, what would happen? Who would win?" I don't know, our discussion points were like "usually, we're with our pack so if I'm without my pack, am I gonna be weaker?" So I honestly don't know. That discussion is still up in the air. We should probably get Stephenie Meyer on the line and ask her."

All antics aside, Lautner spoke candidly in and interview about how his life has changed since being cast as Jacob Black, including how he bulked up to reprise his role as the hunky werewolf. Check it out over at ComingSoon.net!

Robert Pattinson Says Edward Would Kick Jacob's Ass

Only a week until New Moon hits theaters and the cast is hot on the PR path.

Robert Pattinson recently sat down for a lengthy interview with Comingsoon.net, where he was asked who would win in a fight himself and Taylor Lautner, and if the outcome would be the same for their respective characters.

Shot of Edward Cullen

"I don't know. I did hear the other day that Taylor had agreed to an interview where the interviewer was going to fight him. I don't think that I'd ever agree to that and also looking at Taylor's martial arts videos from when he was like nine I really wouldn't want to do anything. Maybe if I had some kind of weapon. Edward and Jacob? I don't know. I think it's actually a fact that Edward would win. I think. If I've read the books correctly. So I guess I can hold onto that for my ego."

The rest of the interview contains a lot of insight into Pattinson's perception of the film, the characters, and himself now that he's become a hot commodity in Hollywood. It's worth a read, so head on over to Comingsoon.net if you're interested.

New Moon opens in theaters everywhere on November 20.
