Rumors Fly About The Big Lebowski Sequel

If John Turturro can convince the Coen Brothers into making Jesus rise once again, The Big Lebowski sequel seems like a possibility.

Not that any actors that would be involved are taking the rumor too seriously.

“That’s just like a sick thought, isn’t it?” Philip Seymour Hoffman laughed in response when asked by MTV about a sequel revolving around his child-molesting, bowling ball-licking Jesus Quintana. “I love that [Lebowski] has a life now. I had a ball making it."

But what about The Dude's girlfriend?

“I think she has a role in everybody’s universe,” Julianne Moore said. “Maude abides too.... She’s with The Dude somewhere... She had The Dude’s baby, remember? So there’s a mini-Dude out there. [Maybe the movie] is called ‘Mini-Dude’!”

Now there's an idea!

Will the Wachowski Brothers Save Wonder Woman?

According to Leonard Goldberg, a Wonder Woman movie is not dead yet!

The producer, who is working with Joel Silver on the long-gestating project, told MTV that the Wachowski brothers are being considered to write and direct it. This tandem is best known for The Matrix trilogy.

“At one time, Joel [Silver] said they might have an idea. But they got diverted to another project [and] never followed through,” Goldberg said. “There may come a time when they will be focused on ‘Wonder Woman’ and may come up with whatever their take on it was. They’re certainly very talented guys. Their vision for movies — whether they’re successful or not — is always singular.”

Michael Caine Sort of Confirms Batman Villain Rumors

MTV caught up with Michael Caine this week at the Toronto Film Festival.

And the actor that plays Alfred in The Dark Knight gave readers the most confirmation yet that both Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman were being considered for the roles of Riddler and Penguin in the next Batman movie.

Riddler

These rumors have been addressed many times, but Caine told MTV that a Warner Bros. executive backed it all up.

"I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, 'Are we going to make another one?' They said yeah. I said, 'How the hell are we going to top Heath?" Caine recounted "And he says 'I'll tell you how you top Heath - Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.' I said, 'S–t, they've done it again!'"

This doesn't mean Depp and Hoffman have signed any contracts, of course. But it does add fuel to an already exciting fire!

Movie Rumor of the Day: A Live-Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

As past comic books and cartoons get turned into serious, darker films - The Dark Knight being the obvious example - might Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actually be next?

Co-creator Kevin Eastman recently confirmed he is in talks to develop a new live-action movie based on the characters. He posted the following at HeavyMetal.com:

Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better "re-invention" (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film--like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc...there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original "first" TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right--but no official word yet...will keep you posted.

The CG-animated TMNT, which was released in March of 2007, earned $95 million worldwide. It was considered a huge success, considering its $34 million budget.

Idris Elba Considered Michael Jordan Movie

Stringer Bell might be dead.

But the plans for a Michael Jordan movie are being revived!

In a new interview with IGN, RocknRolla star Idris Elba - and the man who played Bell on HBO's The Wire - revealed a bit of information on the Jordan biopic he's planning to shoot.

"I am trying to make that happen," the actor said. "Michael is a very private guy, but we're working at it slowly. The film that I'm trying to make isn't about the actual basketball, it's about the business. Michael Jordan is such a big international brand - how do you make that happen? How do you make that happen as a sports star? The brand has done so well for years."

Is Mark Millar Penning a Superman Movie?

We already know that Mark Millar is planning a Wanted sequel.

Recently, though, the graphic novelist talked G4 about a possible Superman movie.

As the video below depicts, Millar says he pitched the idea to Warner Bros. Pictures and hopes to receive a response  over the next few weeks.

"I've had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year." Millar said.

Movie Rumor of the Day: Cher as Catwoman

For the record, we don't believe this for a second.

But according to Great Britain's The Daily Telegraph, Cher - yes, Cher - has been cast as Catwoman in the follow-up to The Dark Knight.

The British newspaper goes on to say that Johnny Depp has signed on as The Riddler, while shooting on the film - which is provisionally titled The Caped Crusader - will begin in Vancouver early next year.

Cher Pic

"Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years," a studio executive reportedly said. "The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."

That would be nice, at least. Still, can you even begin to imagine Cher in this role?!?

A Veronica Mars Movie in the Works?

As rumors of an Arrested Development movie grow closer and closer to reality, we have news on another popular TV show possibly being adapted for the big screen.

Rob Thomas, the creator of Veronica Mars, was recently asked if that iconic CW series might still be made into a movie.

"It's very tough to focus on it right now with two pilots on my plate," Thomas told Entertainment Weekly, referring to his two ABC projects, a reworking of his '90s dramedy Cupid and an adaptation of the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune. "But as soon as I have any free time, that's my top priority."

Veronica Mars

For her part, Veronica Mars portrayer - and Heroes star - Kristen Bell considers it a "major compliment" that people are still interested in the series that made her famous.

"[Fans] still ask me all the time if the show's coming back. Emotionally, I don't want to think about Veronica Mars every day because it really does make me sad."

Fans Clamor for Superman Franchise Reboot

Batman.

John Connor.

Will Superman be the next iconic character to receive a franchise rebooting?

As fans might expect, Warner Brothers has been thrilled with how Christopher Nolan reinvented Batman for the new millennium with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. And McG sounds like he had big plans for Terminator Salvation.

But the studio hasn't been pleased with Bryan Singer's updated vision of Superman in Superman Returns. Now, according to Variety, the studio is trying to determine what direction to take the films starring the world's most well known superhero.

The publication writes:

Fans have been clamoring all over the web... for a complete reboot. And within the halls of Warner Bros. the same debate rages on. They too believe that the last movie didn't break the mold and wound up in some kind of middle limbo. Today I was told that it is a priority at the studio to find the right direction and if Bryan Singer is willing to do that, fine, but if he gets in the way, he may not stay on the project. There are no writers working on a Superman script now.

The studio wants to figure it out. "It might be better to start from scratch," one exec admitted.
