According to Variety, Dwaye Johnson - we refuse to refer to him as “The Rock,” that was his WWE persona - will star in The Tooth Fairy, a high-concept comedy that casts the actor as an ordinary man brought in to save the tooth fairy kingdom.
The Tooth Fairy begins shooting in August.
Before then Johnson, will be seen in Get Smart and Disney remake Race to Witch Mountain.
Paul Dano, coming off his featured role in There Will Be Blood, will star in and executive produce Gigantic, an offbeat romantic comedy that costars Zooey Deschanel.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the movie is written by Aselton and Adam Nagata and the script revolves around a mattress salesman and a young woman he meets at his store.
Production is tentatively set for early March in New York.
Here’s an update on the cast of Shutter Island:
Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children), Max von Sydow (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and Emily Mortimer (Lars and the Real Girl, Lovely and Amazing) have been cast in Martin Scorsese’s mystery drama.
These actors join a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams,and Patricia Clarkson.
The story, adapted from Dennis Lehane’s 2004 novel, is about a pair of U.S. marshals (DiCaprio and Ruffalo) who travel to a Massachusetts island to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane.
Noted film critic Mr. Skin - the dude Seth Rogen and company tried to copy in Knocked Up - has unveiled his Top 20 Nude Scenes of 2007.
He refers to those 10 months as “a surprisingly strong year for big-screen nudity..among this decade’s very breast.” Check out the rankings that led him to make such a declaration:

While both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass claimed they were calling it quits after The Bourne Ultimatum, rumors are now swirling that the pair has agreed to film a fourth movie in the franchise.

As we digest the fact New Line is even making a Final Destination 4, we might as well present the list of actors set to star in this project:
Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, Hayley Webb, Nick Zano, Krista Allen and Andy Fiscella will make up the cast for the fourth - and, we’ve gotta imagine, final - installment of this franchise.
According to Variety, David Richard Ellis, who helmed the second Final Destination, will direct the horror-thriller. Its story kicks off when a teenager’s premonition of a deadly racecar crash spares his life and those of a few lucky others. But death continues to stalk those who escaped it.
Principal photography begins this month in New Orleans.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in a live-action adaption of Anime classic Akira.
Ruairi Robinson has been hired to direct what would ideally be a two-part epic, according to The Hollywood Reporter. DiCaprio will produce the movie.
Akira originated in 1988 as a manga and then as an animated film co-written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. The story was set in a neon-lit futuristic post-nuclear war “New Tokyo” in 2019 where a teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment which unleashes his latent powers.
The film is tentatively scheduled for a release in the summer of 2009.
Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell will fill in for Heath Ledger in his final role in the unfinished fantasy flick The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Law’s rep confirmed their casting to BBC News, but said it was unclear how the role would be reconstructed.
Production on the Terry Gilliam-directed film was suspended after Ledger died of a prescription drug overdose last month.
According to the BBC, original footage of Ledger may remain while Law, Depp and Farrell will play different incarnations of his character, Tony. We’ll provide updates on this situation as they come in.
Movie fans will have to wait a few extra months to be taken back to the final frontier.
Paramount Pictures has shifted the release date of its upcoming Star Trek movie from Christmas 2008 to May 8, 2009. The J.J. Abrams-directed film is still in production.
Variety reports that the film’s release date shift “was part of a major reshuffling to the studio’s release calendar, as well as DreamWorks’ release calendar. Studio insiders said Star Trek has the potential to gross more in May than in December.”
The publication points out that, as of right now, only two other films are slated for release in May 2009: X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Shutter Island.
Abigail Breslin will replace Elle Fanning - and Sofia Vassilieva is liklely to replace Dakota Fanning - the upcoming drama My Sister’s Keeper.
Variety states Dakota Fanning balked at a request that she shave her head for the role; both sisters withdrew abruptly from the film.
Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Definitely, Maybe) will take over the role of a young girl who sues for emancipation from parents who conceived her as a genetic match so she could prolong the life of her ailing older sister. Vassilieva would play the older sister.
Cameron Diaz will portray the mother of the girls and Alec Baldwin the attorney who represents the child.
