Mel Gibson Enters Edge of Darkness

No, the headline above does not refer to the place Mel Gibson has been on since his arrest for drink driving and subsequent rants against Jewish people. But that would be an understandable mistake to make.

Instead, the controversial actor will star in Edge of Darkness, his first leading feature role since 2002. The project is a movie adaptation of the six-hour 1985 BBC miniseries about a straitlaced police investigator (Gibson) who investigates his daughter's murder and uncovers systemic corruption that led to her death.

The film will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), who also directed the miniseries. William Monahan wrote the script, and Graham King is producing through GK Films. Monahan and King previously worked together for The Departed.

Connor Cruise, Ali Lohan Line Up New Movies

The apple doesn't fall far from the acting tree for Connor Cruise and Ali Lohan.

The former will make his film debut in the upcoming Will Smith drama Seven Pounds. Smith, who is a close friend of Connor's father Tom Cruise, has hired the 13-year old adopted son of Tom and Nicole Kidman to play a younger version of Smith in a very minor role.

"Tom is so proud of Connor," a source told People Magazine. "He's proud of him."

Meanwhile, Ali Lohan - Lindsay's 14-year-old sister - has also begun filming her first movie. It's called Mostly Ghostly. Just like Lindsay in 2004 comedy Mean Girls, Ali will portray a popular high school senior in the film.

The flick, slated for release later this year, is based on the pre-teen book series Mostly Ghostly written by R.L. Stine, which centers on an 11-year-old boy who befriends two ghosts.

Brett Ratner to Direct Eddie Murphy in The Incredible Shrinking Man

Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct a remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man. Brian Grazer is producing the project, which has Eddie Murphy attached to star, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

An updated version of the best-selling novel and 1957 sci-fi classic starring Grant Williams, The Incredible Shrinking Man will be taking the comedic approach to the fantastical material. It's set to tell the story of a famous Las Vegas magician (named Scott Carey) who is put under a spell that causes him to shrink.

He must find a way to reverse the spell before he gets so small that he disappears. We'll ignore the obvious joke here that many movie goers probably wouldn't mind of Murphy - the man who dared to make Norbit - himself disappeared from the big screen.

Release Date Set for Avatar: The Last Airbender

A release has been set for M. Night Shyamalan's live-action big-screen adaptation of the popular animated TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender. It will hit theaters on July 2, 2010.

The studio has, wisely, dropped "Avatar" from the title of the movie so as to avoid confusion with James Cameron's 3-D epic Avatar, which opens on December 18, 2009.

The storyline of The Last Airbender revolves around a young hero who has the ability to manipulate the elements and stop a ruthless nation from destroying the three other nations.

Shyamalan wrote the film and will direct it. His fans can only hope it's closer to The Sixth Sense than The Lady in the Water.

Arrested Development Cast to Reunite for Sit Down, Shut Up

We're still not sure if there will be an Arrested Development movie (although we pray for it every night before bed), but three of the sitcom's main characters will be coming together for a different film.

Mitch Hurwitz has recruited Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Henry Winkler to voice roles in his animated Fox comedy Sit Down, Shut Up, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie centers on staff members at a high school who are preoccupied with their own needs and agendas, which means the students come second.

Cheri Oteri, Will Forte, Regina King, Nick Kroll, Tom Kenny and Maria Bamford will also voice characters in the flick.
