Greed Is Apparently Still Good: Wall Street 2 Lenses in NYC

Ahh, the 1980's- everyone's favorite cocaine-fueled decade. You gave us so many wonderful things: Scarface, new wave music, Reaganomics, the DeLorean, and Gordon Gekko.

Yes, it's true, the man who delivered the creed "Greed Is Good" in the seminal 1987 movie Wall Street is back, and this time, it's personal! Well, personal enough, because Shia LaBeouf has been tapped to play the fiancé of Gordon Gekko's daughter, played by Carey Mulligan, in the sequel to Oliver Stone's original stock broker drama.

LaBeouf is teamed up with veteran Michael Douglas, who reprises his role as the formidable and disgraced Gekko, along with Josh Brolin, Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon, Vanessa Ferlito and get this: Charlie Sheen! Yes, you heard it right, the MaSheen is back too! Oliver Stone is presiding over the cast as director of Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. Now that's a title straight out of the 1980's!

Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf and Oliver Stone were recently spotted in New York City's Central Park, shooting the new installment in what I suppose can now be called the Wall Street saga, which will be released by 20th Century Fox.

Shia and Michael in Wall Street 2

Look how wonderfully crabby Michael Douglas looks! And that old man light tan getup! Amazing! Who would have ever thought in 1987 that we'd get to see a sequel of Wall Street, let alone one where we get to see Gordon Gekko as a crotchety old geezer? I don't know about you guys, but I'm there, despite the inclusion of Shia LaBeouf. I also hope we get to see Douglas and Sheen have a fist fight over what happened in the first movie.

IMDb.com has this to say about the film's plot:

As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader's mentor.

Did I hear that right? Are they trying to make Gordon Gekko the good guy? I don't know Ollie, he's a pretty good bad guy, and after Bernie Madoff, I think a lot of people will enjoy seeing the old bad guy get his ass handed to him. Don't disappoint me- give us MaSheen vs. Gekko round 2!

The movie is due to hit theaters April 23, 2010.

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps Release Date, Cameo News

As the cast for Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps continues to grow, 20th Century Fox has announced a release date for this sequel:

It will hit theaters on April 23, 2010.

As for the plot of the follow-up film, director Oliver Stone told The New York Times that it will once again focus on Michael Douglas' Gordon Gekko, though he's a somewhat changed man from the original movie.

"When Gekko comes out of prison in the beginning of this movie, he essentially has to redefine himself, redefine his character," Stone said. "He's looking for that second chance."

Stone also confirmed that Charlie Sheen - who played the key role of Bud Fox in Wall Street - will make a cameo in the sequel.

"We sort of started over with the story of a young man who is at the center of it, and how he needs Gordon Gekko's help to navigate those waters," said Alex Young, co-president of production at 20th Century Fox.

That young man will be played by Shia LaBeouf, whose character of Jake Moore is a young trader that's engaged to Gekko's daughter, played by Carey Mulligan.

Susan Sarandon Rumored for Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps

Another big name might join Oliver Stone's sequel to Wall Street.

Rumors are swirling that Susan Sarandon is in negotiations to play the mother to Shia LaBeouf’s character, Jacob, in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.

If cast, Sarandon would be reunited with Carey Mulligan, with whom she co-starred in the Sundance film The Greatest. Frank Langella has signed on for a part, while Josh Brolin is considering a role.

Filming for the sequel will begin this fall in New York.

Carey Mulligan Lands Key Role in Wall Street Sequel

The cast for the Wall Street sequel continues to grow.

Frank Langella was added earlier this week.

Now, British actress Carey Mulligan has been cast as Michael Douglas’s daughter in the Oliver Stone-directed follow-up.

The 24-year old, who portrayed one of Keira Knightley’s sisters in Pride & Prejudice and also had a bit role in Public Enemies, will star as the estranged daughter of disgraced corporate giant Gordon Gekko.

Her character will become romantically involved Shia LaBeouf’s eager Wall Street trader in the film. Not a bad gig by any means.

Shia LaBeouf is also attached to the project, while Michael Douglas willreprise his Gordon Gekko role. Josh Brolin is reportedly close to an agreement, as well.

Langella will portray Lewis Zabel, a veteran broker that mentors LaBeouf's character, a young Wall Street broker.

Wall Street Sequel Named Money Never Sleeps

The previously rumored Wall Street sequel has been given a name, Money Never Sleeps, and a description according to Latino Review.

According to their video, the sequel to the 1978 follows Gordon Gekko in 2002 after he's released from his 14-year prison sentence.  Gekko, whose book, "Moral Hazzard" launched him on to the financial lecture circuit, meets a young Wall Street hot shop named Jacob L. Moore.  Sorry, Bud Fox, you're old news.

Jacob's previous mentor committed suicide after rumors took down his former company, KZI.  When Moore discovers that a trader named Brenton Woods was responsible, Jacob goes to Gekko for advice in exacting revenge.

Oh, and of course, if that weren't enough, it turns out Jacob is enaged to Gekko's estranged daughter.  The movie will take place in New York, London, and Dubai.

Coming Soon: A Wall Street Sequel

While the words "Wall Street," don't exactly invoke smiles on, well, anyone these days, those behind the 1987 movie by that name are still planning a sequel.

According to Variety, Allan Loeb (21) has been chosen to write the screenplay, which is being fast-tracked by the studio as a Michael Douglas vehicle, though the actor is not formally attached. He won the Oscar for Best Actor in the original.

Gordon Gekko

The Wall Street sequel would again focus on Gordon Gekko, who has recently been sprung from prison and re-emerges into a much more tumultuous financial world than the one he once ruled.

The Bud Fox character, played by Charlie Sheen in the original, will not appear in the latest incarnatio
