Report: Michael Cera on Board for Arrested Development Movie

Yes!

Inside sources have confirmed to E! that Michael Cera will, indeed, star in the upcoming Arrested Development movie.

Following a series of rumors that the Superbad and Juno star would not reprise his hilarious role as George Michael Bluth, insiders now say he's on board. Thank goodness.

Young, Hilarious Star

As for other movie details, we may not hear about them for awhile.

Ron Howard told Ryan Seacrest at this year's Academy Awards:

"It's looking very much like we're going to make [the movie], but we've now been asked to stop offering any details. It's cloaked in a little mystery, but it's looking good."

Michael Cera Addresses Arrested Development Movie Rumors

When it comes to an upcoming movie based on the former Fox sitcom Arrested Development, two things are known:

  1. It's happening;
  2. Michael Cera is the only cast member to not commit to the film.

When approached by MTV about the project, Cera played down confirmation of the movie.

"There's no script or anything, so the movie, I think, is more hypothetical than people think," the actor said.

Asked if he was "holding out" on the reprisal of his TV role for the big screen version, the Juno star replied:

"I'd possibly play, I'd possibly put the script in my shredder. I may buy a shredder. People have asked me about it more than I've heard about it [in an official capacity] but I'd be very interested to see what the story is with it."

Man, when did George Michael Bluth become such a diva?!?

Arrested Development Movie, Michael Cera Update

For once and for all, the Arrested Development movie is happening!

- Will Arnett

We'll gladly take Arnett's word for this, as most cast and crew affiliated with the former Fox sitcom have confirmed a big screen version is in the works.

The one actor still not signed on for it? Michael Cera.

George-Michael Bluth

When asked about Cera's status for the film, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz told E! Online that he hopes George-Michael Bluth can be a part of the movie, as he's "just trying to get all the actors on board."

"I know he's thinking about it," Jason Bateman said about Cera. "And we're all awaiting some finality to all of that so Mitch can get writing."

So, why is the young Superbad star holding out?

"You'd have to get [Michael] on the phone to get his answer about whether he's going to come back and do it or not," Bateman said. "He's certainly not said that he won't do it. I think Michael is clearly the guy that has come out of Arrested Development with a very big plate, so I think he's trying to really give some responsible thought to what makes sense for him to do with his career. The guy is 20 years old and I'm sure he doesn't want to screw up this opportunity."

Michael Cera Rumored for Main Role in Gilligan's Island Movie

Is Michael Cera ready for a three-hour tour?

Sherwood Schwartz and son Lloyd Schwartz have signed a deal to bring Gilligan’s Island to the big screen.

As if that's not exciting - or frightening - enough, the elder Schwartz told TV Guide that he wants the Superbad star to portray Gilligan and Beyonce Knowles to take on the role of Ginger.

Would Michael Cera wear Gilligan's white bucket hat with pride?

Michael Cera Shoots down Arrested Development Movie Rumors

Michael Cera is breaking our heart.

In a recent interview, the Juno and Superbad star was asked about the possibilities of an Arrested Development movie. And his response was far from encouraging:

You’ve been quoted saying that you didn’t think there would be much interest in an Arrested Development movie, but there are still constant rumors that it will get made. What’s the status now?
People have asked me about a movie since the show was cancelled, but I don’t know. I think people will ask about it for a long time. Whatever the case, nothing I say will dictate anything.

But if it does get made, will you be in it?

It would depend on a lot of things. It’s pretty hypothetical. I know there’s a page for the movie on IMDb, which is strange because I know it’s definitely not that real.

Michael Cera and Kat Dennings Dish on Infinite Playlist

Movie fans will familiarize themselves with Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist this week. The comedy opens on Friday.

Below, young stars Michael Cera and Kat Dennings talk about the film with ComingSoon.net. Enjoy these excerpts:

ComingSoon.net: How were the two of you cast for this and did you get to spend any time together before being thrown out onto the streets of New York?
Michael Cera: Yeah, we hung out.
Kat Dennings: We had a lot of rehearsals.
Cera: Yeah, rehearsals and hanging out, just getting to know each other. That was definitely helpful. We knew each other and we were comfortable with each other and with Pete (Solett, director) and with all the other actors before jumping in.
Dennings: And with the locations.
Cera: Yeah, we rehearsed at the locations, which I've never done.
Dennings: I don't know why more people don't do that, because it is the most practical thing I've ever heard of.
Cera
: We actually blocked it out, so when we got there we didn't have think about blocking, we could think about everything else. It was nice.
Dennings: It was really nice.

Nick and Tris

Tune in this week to Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, starring Kat Dennings and Michael Cera.

CS: Which one of you was cast first?
Dennings: You were first before anybody else.
Cera: Yeah, I met with Pete and then I was cast and that's when he started...
Dennings: I don't know if I was second cast, was I? Because me and Alexis and Ari were all cast around the same time. I think.
Cera: I think Pete wanted to find Norah before anyone else.
Dennings: It is just the girls when I was having my read with you, my final read with Michael it was me, Ari Graynor and Alexis Dziena. We all ended up getting the roles and we were all there together at the end. I wonder who beat everybody.

CS: At that point, you had already done "Superbad" but it hadn't come out yet?
Cera: It had come out I think. It was a few months before. We had done all the press tours for "Superbad" and everything. It was last summer and then in September it went to Europe.
Dennings: Yeah, it did because I saw you at the premiere.

Michael Cera Speaks on Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

We don't care that Michael Cera pretty much plays the same character in every movie. The guy is hilarious.

Here are excerpts from a new interview Cera gave, regarding his upcoming film, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

So how did this project come to you?
My manager sent me Raising Victor Vargas, which is the movie that Pete (Sollett) did. And I really loved it and wanted to meet with him. And then I went to New York and met him and really like him and wanted to work with him. I thought he would do the movie really well. And we made it.

Nick

Because you guys are kind of in the target demo that movies like this and Superbad and Juno are aimed at. What do you think is different about these movies of the last couple of years, as opposed to back in the ’90s when we had a lot of teen movies that were maybe a little more gross-out based, a little more sexist perhaps. Do you like any of the movies that come out now?
I like anything that feels authentic or comes from a real place. Comes from someone’s heart. I’ve never liked those gross out comedies. I watch a lot of movies and that’s not really what I watch or like. I just try and do things that I think I would like.

On the Set with Kat Dennings and Michael Cera

MTV recently went on set of the upcoming comedy Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

The film is based on a book and stars a pair of hot young actors: Michael Cera and Kat Dennings.

"[Cera's character] and I meet kind of by chance at a show for his band, the Jerkoffs, and end up kissing sort of by accident, but not really by accident. And then we get mad at each other, then fall in love a little bit, then get really mad, then fall in love a little bit more," said Dennings, who is most recognized for playing Catherine Keener's daughter in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

"And I find Jesus in a bathroom at one point. There's just so many things in this movie that I actually can't keep track of them all."

Nick And Norah

Cera added:

"It doesn't tout itself as the be-all-end-all of youth. Nothing seemed too preposterous in it. It's just a good story of one night going all around Manhattan."

Ellen Page and Michael Cera Dish on Juno

Ellen Page and Michael Cera star in Juno. Below, the young stars talk about the film with Movie Web:

How quickly upon reading the script, were you like "I want to do this project?"
Ellen Page: When I read the script it just blew mind and I fell totally in love with it and I just really wanted to be part of it.

Juno Stars Michael Cera: How quickly?

Ellen Page: Oh, how quickly? ... I don't know, page 4. No, that's exaggerating. One of those things where immediately when you started reading it, you knew it was something special and then the more you read, the more it surprised you, and the more you realized it was devoid of stereotype and...

Michael Cera: I really liked the format of the script. It was not written like a script. It didn't look like she (screenwriter Diablo Cody) was trying to write it like a script. It was more like a book. I can remember certain paragraphs were just like broken up oddly and that kind of ... not like reading a script.

Kinda like a book. That made me want to do the movie. I thought "wow, if it's written oddly then, if it's not written like a script, it's got to be a good movie". I found out, that's not the way to make a decision. And it's not a lesson that I'll soon forget.

What did you two like most about your characters? What about that character that caught your eye?
Michael Cera: I really liked that my character's just kinda immediately less out of the equation. I didn't have any sort of control in the matter. It's like a movie that takes course over 9 months or so and just the whole time, not aware of what's going on and have no control over it, so that kind of, I thought that would be fun to do.

Ellen Page: I was excited about this character because I felt like it was a teenage female lead that we just never seen before and although she's an incredibly unique and witty and all these things, she's also very genuine and it all felt very sincere.
