McG Teases Terminator Salvation Sequel

Even though it hasn't hit theaters yet, buzz is already circulating about a Terminator Salvation sequel.

Director McG addressed the topic in a recent interview with MTV News.

"If we have good fortune we have indeed planned out two more ‘Terminator’ pictures,” he said. “There’s an arc of story [in the new sequels].”

Reportedly, this arc will be left open with the ending of Terminator Salvation, lends itself to a follow-up fllm.

"The ending is indeed elliptical,” McG added. "And it challenges the audience. It’s not a happy little bow of an ending at all. The ending is tough and requires reflection, and in some degrees it bifurcates the audience. You walk back to the car and one person thinks it means this, and the other person thinks it means that."

Spring Awakening

Terminator Salvation Director Dishes on "New Beginning"

McG was recently asked a simple question about his latest movie:

Pitch Terminator Salvation.

Here's how the director replied:

The whole idea for doing this movie is to honour the first three movies but begin again. The big difference is we're post-Judgement Day, whereas the other pictures were all contemporary, with Terminators coming back in time. It's deep post-Judgement Day, it's a new beginning, and because the future is malleable, there are a great many places to go.

The flick will be an origin story of Nemo, as he creates his warship, the Nautilus.

The 1954 original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was the first live-action film made by Walt Disney; it won three Oscars.

A Terminator Salvation Blog Update

Terminator Salvation director McG has updated his blog at the movie's official website.

In the latest entry, he says they have finished principal photography and are now in post-production.

Check out excerpts from McG's Terminator Salvation blog below:

The Future So Far...

We wrapped principal photography. Now we're heavy into post. I've already shown early cuts to Christian and Sam. They seem pleased with where the film is headed. Our focus is on story and character, but it's fun diving into the world of visual effects.

It feels like the responsibility of any Terminator film to reinvent the wheel of effects with every outing. The first movie was a stunning achievement in animatronics and practical effects from Stan Winston. The second film brought us liquid metal, which was a true revolution in the effects world. Robert Patrick's (T-1000) head coming apart and putting itself back together again looks as good today as ever.

Terminator Salvation: Look to the Title

In the market for a few Terminator Salvation spoilers?

Director McG (pictured) told MTV News that the best advice he can give fans is to analyze the title.

“Even though we may sin ultimately we deserve a second chance,” McG said, referring to the inspiration behind the name of this franchise reinvention.

Just like Termintor 2: Judgment Day, which alluded to the choice a Terminator must ultimately make, Terminator Salvation relates to the actions of a specific character, McG said. He wouldn't specify if that was John Connor (played in the new franchise by Christian Bale).

“Sometimes life is worth living when you make sacrifices so others may benefit,” the director told MTV.
