Jennifer Connelly: The Day the Earth Stood Still Pressure is On!

In The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jennifer Connelly portrays Helen Benson. This character faces a slight bit of pressure in the movie:

She is essentially the human prototype by which alien visitor Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) will decide whether we live or die on earth.

ComingSoon.net asked Connelly if playing this character felt like a huge responsibility:

It's not just Helen. It's not just on my shoulders in reality. I think the relationship between Helen and Jacob is employed in a different way than it is in the original film. It really functions like a little microchasm of human nature; how we are treating each other. They're sort of in conflict and there's a bit of a crisis and there's a reconciliation and they each take responsibility and then there's a movement towards a resolution and Klaatu observes this. So there is that dynamic.

There is also the Barnhardt scene and other encounters that he has to help shape it so that was a little bit of a relief that it wasn't just me. I wanted people to be able to identify with her and I thought it was important that she, herself be aware of the task and the enormity of that task and that position so I like that she has a moment with Barnhardt where she says "tell me what to do." She's aware what the stakes are and what she's found herself involved in.

I liked Patricia Neal's character in the original, that she is open-minded and she's a very strong, free-thinking individual. I thought that was important to carry over; that bravery. Those qualities, to be a human without prejudice, without bias, was really essential. That she be able to communicate and that's she'd be really making you feel the depths of her love. I thought those were really important things.

Jennifer Connelly Speaks on Reservation Road

How versatile is Jennifer Connelly?

She's starring in the upcoming drama Reservation Road and the upcoming romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You.

Jennifer Connelly PhotoThe gorgeous actress recently spoke on the latter:

Q: What do you think your character would have done with the information that Joaquin Phoenix's character, Ethan, had in regards to who really killed their child?
Jennifer Connelly: I think there are different components to it. First of all, I think the betrayal is infuriating. That's one element to it, this notion that they've been spending so much time together and he didn't know. That's a huge betrayal. But I think that they differ in that they have this confrontation, Ethan and Grace, [whether they should] care or not care about finding the guy? S

he just sees it differently. To her, I think the thing she's wrestling with is that nothing will make it better. The problem is the hole in her life and I think Ethan is chasing this demon that he's created as if inflicting horror on him [Mark Ruffalo's character, Dwight] or capturing him will set something right.

I don't think she feels it's going to take away any of the pain or suffering by inflicting it on someone else. I think she just views it as ‘how am I going to move around this huge hole in my life?'

Q: You and Joaquin worked together 10 years ago in "Inventing the Abbotts." Has he changed since then?
Connelly: I didn't have much to do with Joaquin in "Inventing the Abbotts." I remember having one scene with him and having to wear weird hats. I was an airline stewardess so I didn't have an experience with him like this. I've seen him and run into him a few times so I thought fondly of him, which is nice going into this.

Jennifer Connelly Speaks on He's Just Not That Into You

Jennifer Connelly is an Oscar winner. But she's also known for playing the roles of wives and girlfriend.

That's why, as she told MTV News, the actress is so excited to star in He's Just Not That Into You.

"I've done so many movies where I've been a wife or a girlfriend and less where I'm playing just a friend," Connelly said. "That's one of the things that was exciting about [being in] ‘He's Just Not That Into You.'"

Based on the popular self-help book of the same name, the movie follows several stories, each of them told "in sort of chapters," Connelly said, "chapters on this thematic idea" of how to tell when a man is interested in a relationship.

While Connelly is excited about the role, she would change one thing: she'd love to, you know, her actually meet the other women

"I don't meet the other girls," the actress said. "Scarlett Johansson is in the closet for one of my scenes! But I'd like to write some scenes where I meet all the other women in the movie, because there are some great girls in it."

Damn right.

Aside from Connelly and Johansson, the movie also stars Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore and Ginnifer Goodwin. Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper play a couple of the guys.
