High School Musical 3 Spoilers, Secrets from the Set

High School Musical 3: Senior Year is the first film in this franchise to be released in theaters.

As the cast and crew film inside Salt Lake City's East High School, USA Today was on the scene for a recent feature story. Here are highlights from it:

  • The first High School Musical was shot for $4.2 million; the second, $7.8 million.
  • Pictured below, Ashley Tisdale (as Sharpay Evans) stars in a dream-sequence number I Want It All, which took three days to shoot.
  • Troy's basketball jersey has been retired, displayed up high next to those of his father and best friend, Chad.
  • The finale of the film is a graduation scene. It's a big song-and-dance number shot on the football field, inspired by Super Bowl halftime shows and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Salt Lake City.

High School Musical 3: Spoilers from the Set

The cast and crew of High School Musical 3: Senior Year recently spoke to ABC News about the most anticipated film aimed at teens, maybe ever.

What, exactly, will the big screen version of this popular Disney franchise be about?

For starters, "we have a prom scene," Zac Efron (pictured) said, though he was sort of corrected by co-star Ashley Tisdale: "It's actually a play that we're putting on about a prom."

Interesting. While fans of the series may need to wait until October 24 to see what the plot is truly about, here's a rundown of spoilers we learned from this set visit:

  • There will be 14 musical numbers in all;
  • The movie marks the first time that best friends Troy and Chad will sing together;
  • Ryan and Sharpay will sing a song in the school's cafeteria;
  • The opening number for the movie will take place in the East High gym.

Shooting for High School Musical 3 wraps in late June. We'll have more secrets from the set as they come in.

High School Musical 3 Casting News: Ali Lohan Auditions

Reportedly, High School Musical 3 is considering adding a Lohan to its cast. Fortunately, it's not the drunken, promiscuous oldest daughter.

But Ali Loahn is rumored to be up for a role in the upcoming feature film, the first in the High School Musical franchise to be released in theaters.

A source told Marc Malkin of E! that Lohan could be up for the role of a spoiled princess, a Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) in training, in the movie.

We have no further information at this time, except that a rep for Lohan confirmed Ali is up for a part: "She is auditioning for it."

High School Musical 3

Director Kenny Ortega told People magazine he's excited about working one last time with the cast, a group of virtually unknown actors before the first movie debuted on the Disney Channel in January 2006.

"I am the luckiest guy in the world and I know it," Ortega said. "This will be our last time together and I love working with these kids so much. It's going to be great."

According to the studio, High School Musical 3: Senior Year finds high school seniors Troy [Efron] and Gabriella [Hudgens] facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off in different directions to college. Joined by the rest of the Wildcat crew, they stage a spring musical reflecting their hopes and fears about their future.
