Will Smith and Charlize Theron Sign on for Hancock Sequel

A sequel to last summer's Hancock has already been confirmed.

But MTV News now reports that the movie's two main stars, Will Smith and Charlize Thero,n are on board to reprise their roles from the 2008 blockbuster. Peter Berg will also return to direct the follow-up.

Immortal Gods

Hancock earned  $628 million worldwide last year. In a twist about halfway through the movie, it was revealed that Smith and Theron's characters are immortal gods that become vulnerable when near each other.

For the sequel, Berg is on record with a plan to feature at least one more all-powerful entity such as these two. Moreover,, he's got his eye on a well-known name to play a third superhero.

"We have [someone in mind]," Berg told MTV. "I'm not gonna tell you who, but we have!"

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but director Peter Berg has hinted that the film may reveal the existence of another Hancock-like god.

Fierro spent several seasons as a writer-producer on the best show in the history of TV (The Shield); and also worked on 24 and Dexter.

Director Confirms (Eventual) Plans for a Hancock Sequel

As Will Smith himself as confirmed, there will definitely be a Hancock sequel.

In a new interview with Sci-Fi Wire, director Peter Berg echoed the star's sentiments, but he said no time table has been set for production.

"They'd like to fast-track it, but Will's busy, I'm pretty busy. We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it," Berg said.

However, Berg did reveal a possible spoiler for the follow-up film.

Out of the Rubble

At the end of the original, Smith's character is revealed to be an immortal god that becomes vulnerable in the presence of his goddess companion (Charlize Theron). Such a mythology will likely be explored in a sequel, said Berg.

"There might be another god out there. There might be another one."

Hancock Sequel: On the Way!

According to Will Smith himself, a Hancock sequel is "definitely" happening.

The folks at JoBlo asked the actor if he'd be willing to don the superhero outfit again, and he replied that there were a lot of unexplored characters in the Hancock universe that would be ideal for a follow-up. He also confirmed that movie viewers will definitely be treated to Hancock 2 in a few years.

The original Hancock took in $150 million domestically and $624.4 million worldwide.

Reel Movie Reviews: Hancock

It's coming up on July 4. Therefore, it's almost time for Will Smith's latest action blockbuster.

How does Hancock compare to past Smith hits, such as Men in Black and Independence Day? Here's the reaction to it by various movie critics...

- Sadly, the bar is set too high and the movie implodes under the weight of its own ambitions... -- The Times UK

- Hancock comes around by the movie's end as one would expect, but the depth to which this hero sinks beforehand is occasionally startling and pretty great... -- ReelzChannel

A Questionable Hero

- This misguided attempt to wring a novel twist on the superhero genre has a certain whiff of The Last Action Hero about it... -- Variety

- Superficially a blockbuster, but for those who like to read into a film a sly allegory about what America is today - and how it is seen by others... -- Kyle Smith

Jason Bateman Hypes Hancock, Confirms Arrested Development Movie

Since Arrested Development ended, Jason Bateman has slowly built a film resume of solid supporting roles. He was the perfect slacker of a husband in Juno, for example.

Now, Bateman is set to star in the summer blockbuster Hancock. He recently discussed his part - as a do-gooding PR man who tries to rehab a superhero's image - with the Times of London.

"My character sees life through rose-coloured glasses, so he doesn't understand how people can't see the positive side of Hancock," Bateman said. "I like being the everyman. I like being the tour guide, the one who tethers whatever absurdity might be in a film and helps make that tangible to the audience."

Bateman is well aware that he isn't the main draw of Hancock, of course, referring to it as "[Will Smith's] world" and saying he's lucky to spend time in it.

Meanwhile, Bateman also confirmed the plans for an Arrested Development movie next year.
