Dennis Quaid: "Definitely Interested" in G.I. Joe Sequel

As rumors of a sequel to G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra grow stronger, one of the film's stars is making it clear that he's in for it.

Dennis Quaid, who portrays General Hawk, recently spoke with Sci Fi Wire about a follow-up film and said he's "definitely interested" in reprising his role as the team's commanding officer.

The actor is a big fan of director Stephen Sommers, saying he hit a "home run" with the original.

For the sequel, Quaid said: "I want to get out of the pit ... I want to ride a horse and shoot a gun. I want a horse with an accelerator suit."

Marlon Wayans: Excited for G.I. Joe Sequel

Based on its box office performance, there's no doubt that there will be a sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

"They will make a sequel," Marlon Wayans, who plays Ripcord, told E! News over the weekend. "That's the thing about Hollywood. They will make a sequel and sequel to the sequel and then a sequel to the sequel's sequel... I can't wait to do it. If it happens, that would be great."

The actor also thinks there's spin-off material for a few character.

"I think they'll probably go with Snake Eyes [played by Ray Park] first," he said. "Although I could probably whoop Snake Eyes' ass."

New Characters Discussed for G.I. Joe Sequel

Unless G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra truly tanks, a sequel is all but inevitable.

With that in mind, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was asked which characters he'd like to see included in the next film.

"There's a ton of them actually... one of the hard things about tackling these things is that there's always the fan who says: 'Why didn't you pick Flint? Why did you pick Duke?' It goes on," he told IGN. "In general, what we've done with this, and what we did with Transformers, is you try to pick the most popular ones, and then if you're lucky enough to make another one, you use the next most popular.

"I think Flint's a cool character. And I've always liked the name Roadblock. I just think that's one of the greatest names ever. So somehow we've got to figure out how to get Roadblock in. I'm not sure I even like the character, but I love the name."

G.I. Joe Sequel: Already Planned!

So far, reviews for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra have been less than stellar.

Still, those behind the movie appear confident about its success: a sequel is already in the works.

At a press conference in Australia director Stephen Sommers and the cast were asked if they were locked in for a sequel.

Sommers replied with enthusiasm: "Yes they are," as the actors next to him nodded their heads, and the director concluded the response with: "Next summer!"

Sounds like that's when shooting will begin. Sommers better hope the original, which hits theaters on August 7, is a success.
