Dan Aykroyd Wants Unknown Ghostbusters

While rumors of a third Ghostbusters movie have been swirling around for quite some time, it's looking better than ever for the paranormal eliminators to return to the silver screen.

Ghostbusters writer/actor Dan Aykroyd has been a major proponent of the project, but there was always the problem of getting the rest of the cast to sign on, namely Bill Murray. Aykroyd now proposes a clever way around that- hiring unknown talent.

The Ghostbusters

"I hope it's a nice mix, maybe two guys and two girls," the actor told New York magazine Oct. 28. "We'll find some great young actors. We're probably going to search for unknowns."

According to several sources, including fellow Ghostbusters alum Harold Ramis, the plan for the third film is to have the original Ghostbusters pass the torch to a new generation of slime exterminators.

"I want to retire and hand it over to a young cadre and cadet who can pick up the equipment and drive the car because I'm too old for that now," Aykroyd said.

The plot sounds similar to the recently released Ghostbusters video game, which saw the reunion of Aykroyd, Ramis, Ernie Hudson and even Bill Murray, who all lent their voices to their respective characters. Apparently, the experience and plot of the game were good enough to get Bill Murray excited about a third movie.

Ghostbusters 3 Update: Venkman as a Role Model?

Harolod Ramis recently spoke to MTV about the highly buzzed-about Ghostbusters 3.

What role will the former crime-fighting team play in the sequel?

"We're all going to be in it in different kinds of roles. We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters," Ramis said.

The Emmy-nominated writing team of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (co-executive producers of The Office) are writing the movie's screenplay. The duo also wrote this summer's Year One, which Ramis directed.

"Gene and Lee, both of whom I mentored, are now writing the new Ghostbusters," Ramis said. "I'm consulting with them, as is Dan Aykroyd and [original director] Ivan Reitman."

Ghostbusters 3 Script: In the Works!

A script for Ghostbusters 3 is on the way.

"We have some great new writers working on a new script... Judging from the frenzy on the Internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we're certainly taking that as a good sign," said Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures.

Reportedly, the studio has tapped the Emmy-nominated writing team of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (co-executive producers of The Office) to write the screenplay.

Original Ghostbusters Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson are willing to reprise their roles in the franchise the script appeals to them.

Dan Aykroyd Fuels Ghostbusters 3 Rumors

Dan Aykroyd participated in a chat with The Boston Globe over the weekend.

The actor and comedian was asked by someone about the status of Ghostbusters 3 and he wrote the following:

Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009.

We'll post more news as it breaks, but it sounds more and more likely that Ghostbusters 3 will become a reality.

“I would hope that my little Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I’m not in it!”

Seth Rogen Sounds Off on Ghostbusters 3

They're making Ghostbusters 3? Really?!?

Such was the reaction of Seth Rogen upon hearing that a third installment of this franchise was in the works.

"It's hard to imagine that would be good, isn't it? I mean just as a movie fan I am the first guy to be skeptical of that. It sounds like a terrible idea when you first hear it. At first hearing it sounds like the worst idea ever. I dunno. Maybe. I mean, that would have to be one motherf****** good script."

Zack, Miri

Seth Rogen stars in Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Don't look for him in a new Ghostbusters movie.

Bill Murray Pleads for Female Ghostbuster

Who are you gonna call for Ghostbusters 3?

If it were up to star Bill Murray, a female member of his unusual crime-fighting posse would be an option.

When asked by MTV about the script being written for Ghostbusters 3, Murray initially said he knew little about story lines; and then added that he'd like to see a woman strap on a proton pack.

Murray [on the script}: I hope they go back to the original version. The first Ghostbusters was such a funny movie, and the first 45 minutes of it or so — there's only maybe one or two special effects. It's just these guys being funny, and the characters were really funny, and the situations were funny. I mean, Danny had a really fantastic idea, and, you know, he and Harold [Raimis], they wrote some funny scenes. They left room for improvisation, and we made a funny movie.

MTV: Do you like the idea of potentially passing on to a new crop of Ghostbusters?
Murray: Well, I think it'd be funny to have a girl Ghostbuster. We don't have a girl Ghostbuster. I mean, they say like, "What if you passed it to Chris Rock?" And I go "Well, I dunno. Is Chris Rock gonna save us?" You know, I guess. He's funny.

MTV
: You want Dana Barrett to have a proton pack — is that what you're saying?
Murray: No, I just think there's some funny girls I'd love to see be Ghostbusters.

Bill Murray: Excited for Ghostbusters 3

As long as they don't cross the streams unless absoluetly necessary, Bill Murray sound excited about the possibility of Ghostbusters 3.

At a recent fan festival, the actor said "some writers from The Office" were giving the script a shot, while adding that "the wounds from Ghostbusters 2 are healed."

Here's a full clip of Murray discussing the film:

Harold Ramis Confirms Ghostbusters 3 Talk

As previously reported, Ghostbusters 3 really might come to fruition.

But would original stars Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson return for the project?

Ghostbusters

According to The Chicago Tribune, it's very possible. That newspaper received an e-mail from Ramis explaining the situation:

"yes, columbia is developing a script for
Ghostbusters 3 with my [Year One] writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent.

aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.

Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters 3!

Columbia Pictures has put The Office co-producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky on the daunting task of writing a third Ghostbusters movie featuring the original cast according to Variety.

The duo of Eisenberg and Stupnitsky are no strangers to Ghostbuster Harold Ramis as they just wrote the comedy Year One, which he directed.

The original two Ghostbusters were written by Ramis and co-star Dan Aykroyd and directed by Ivan Reitman. Let's hope they can get the whole team back.
