Friday the 13th Sequel: On the Way!

In Obvious Movie News:

There will be a sequel to Friday the 13th.

The remake took in over $40 million last weekend, clearing the way producer Brad Fuller to post on his official blog:

"You can bet your ass that we want to do a sequel - I have said that a number of times, but now we have evidence to support that desire. My first call on Tuesday will be to all of the people we worked with at the studios to get moving on another Friday 13th movie."

Friday the 13th Review

Should you pay money to see Friday the 13th in the theater? Gosh no.

You can likely write a more sensical screenplay on a bar napkin.

But get some friends together for a drunken DVD night a few months from now and this could be a fun film to scream along with.

This remake is an unapologetically brutal and boneheaded slasher picture. Granted, that's all anyone would ever expect from it, but it's also a dated concept.

Fresh off more interesting horror flicks, such as the Saw franchise and The Uninvited, Jason in a hockey mask ceases to be create a stir. The special effects are an improvement, but they almost make the film LESS scary.

Derek Mears Comments on the New Jason Voorhees

As Derek Mears prepares to don the world's scariest hockey mask for his role in the next Friday the 13th movie, the actor continues to speak out on the role.

The star recently spoke to Movie Web about the latest incarnation of Jason Voorhees.

Well, he is a little leaner. They wanted something that was more functional. He is a guy that is living in the forest. And he isn't able to eat so much. But he is still actiony. He is lean and functional. With Scott's design, the body is really defined by the hump.

On film you will see it cut out, and then it will cut in. As a fan, I was screaming, "Yes! This is what I want to see!" That's what I told them when I originally got hired. I met with them and told them, 'This is not an ego thing. If you think I am right for this, Awesome! But just as a fan, I want to see more Friday the 13th. I want you to keep doing it.'

On the Set of Friday the 13th

MTV News recently went on the set of the new Friday the 13th movie.

And Amanda Righetti was the network's beautiful tour guide. Take a look:

Jared Padalecki Dishes on New Friday the 13th

Derek Mears may be donning the infamous hockey mask of Jason in the next Friday the 13th, but Supernatural star Jared Padalecki also has a role in the film. He plays a character named Clay.

The actor recently chatted with IGN abut the role and the movie, which opens February 13, 2009.

What was the experience like working on Friday the 13th?

So cool, so cool, man! I remember the first time I saw Jason all decked out in his garb; we were actually shooting some scenes where we're running through the woods and he's following us. So we're sitting there in the woods and it's all lit and I'm just kind of eyeballing around the set and suddenly I go – [Gasps] I saw him in the mask and the full regalia and I was like, "That is cool!"

It's this weird kind of trick you have to play with yourself because part of me would be about to shoot a scene and I'd be looking at him going, "Holy crap, that's Jason Voorhees! They're about to call action and I'm about to be fighting Jason Voorhees." And I grew up watching the movies, so I was like, "That's too weird." But then, you have to convince yourself it's not a big deal. It's just a scene. Treat it like everything else."

Jared Padalecki

This is kind of a funny comparison, but when I worked with Peter O'Toole [on Thomas Kinkade's Home for Christmas], I was like, "Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God…" But I realized if I go into the scene going, "Oh, my God, that's Peter O'Toole," then the whole scene I'm just kind of wide-eyed and slack-jawed and I do crappy work. So I had to convince myself it was just a project like any other. But it's really cool and now that it's done, it's really cool to talk about and think about. It's a lot of fun.

Danielle Panabaker Cast in Friday the 13th Movie

We're guessing this means reports of Amanda Righetti being cast as the female lead for the next Friday the 13th movie were false. Sorry for the tease, OC fans.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that little-known actress Danielle Panabaker has been cast in the role instead. She joins a cast that includes Jonathan Sadowski, Travis van Winkle, Aaron Yoo and Derek Mears (as Jason).

The film is scheduled for a February 13, 2009 release.

Panabaker will portray the adventurous, athletic girlfriend of van Winkle, who plays a rich alpha male type that gathers everyone together.

She most recently appeared opposite Kevin Costner in Mr. Brooks. We'll try not to hold that against her.
