Stars Confirm a Fifth Fast & Furious Movie

When a movie makes $72.5 million in one weekend, there's a good chance it will be followed by a sequel.

Or a fourth sequel, in the case of Fast & Furious.

Star Paul Walker confirmed to E! News that another installment in this franchise is definitely on the way.

"This was supposed to be it," Walker said. "There wasn't supposed to be the open-ended closing like there was. When I first read the screenplay, I was like, 'Man, look what they're doing.' But without question, with the way things opened up, Vin and I will be coming back, we're making a fifth one, and we're going to Brazil, that's it."

Paul Walker: Unsure About Reasons for Fast and Furious

Paul Walker is returning to The Fast and the Furious franchise. He's just not entirely sure why.

“I don’t know,” Walker replied to MTV when asked about his reprisal of Brian O'Conner. “I thought it would be fun to go back and do it one more time to close it out.”

The actor continued to think out loud about the upcoming Fast & Furious.

“When I did the second one everyone said ‘What’s up with Vin [Diesel]? Why didn’t he come back for the second one?’ And then I didn’t do the third one everyone was ‘Why didn’t you do the third one?’” Walker said. “But now everyone is going to be ‘Where’s Tyrese [Gibson]?’ I fought for that, to have him on board and it just didn’t work out.”

The Fast and Furious Movie Trailer

The Fast and the Furious is so 2001.

We like things shorter and, well, faster in 2008. That's why the name of the fourth film in this franchise - following 2 Fast, 2 Furious and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - is simply Fast and Furious.

The movie comes out June 5, 2009 and brings back Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, the role that made him (sort of) famous. Check out the movie's trailer now:

The fourth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise is currently filming.

Original stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will reprise their roles in this follow-up, which has the very simple title Fast and Furious.

Paul Dergarabedian of Media by Numbers told USA Today that the movie is a sign of the strength of "quiet giants," franchises that "might not be James Bond or Indiana Jones but still have a rabid following, especially overseas or on DVD."

Diesel and Walker rejoin Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster in the summer 2009 action film, as the aforementioned newspaper has a first look at one of the stars in action:
