Murphy's Pryors Catch Up With Him, Wayans Slides In

Marlon Wayans is apparently in talks to replace Eddie Murphy as legendary comedian Richard Pryor in the forthcoming Happy Madison/Sony Pictures biopic production, Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said.

Eddie Murphy... WTF?

Sorry Eddie, but reports are that Wayans knocked it out of the park in the audition. Murphy apparently left the project due to "conflicts with Paramount Pictures," The Hollywood Insider tells us. Pryor is to be helmed by Dreamgirls director Bill Condon, so one can only speculate as to why Murphy has dropped out.

We here at ReelMovieNews have always thought Marlon Wayans to be the most talented Wayans brother (though that may not be saying much), so we wholeheartedly congratulate him on a job well done. We hope those talks go well.

But seriously, Eddie, why the hell would you drop out of a project like that? What conflicts could seriously have precluded you from playing RICHARD F-ING PRYOR?! Dreamgirls may have temporarily resurrected your career, but the wave doesn't always last. Just ask Burt Reynolds...

Ridiculous Movie Rumor of the Day: Eddie Murphy as The Riddler

According to Great Britian's The Sun, Eddie Murphy will portray The Riddler in the next Batman movie.

And that's not the only rumor this newspaper is spreading. Here's a rundown of what it claims fans can look forward to in the follow-up to The Dark Knight:

  • It will be released in 2010;
  • It will be titled Gotham;
  • Shia LaBeouf will star as Robin;
  • The movie will end with Batman trapped inside Wayne Towers as it explodes.

The Riddler

We'll keep readers informed about all these developments, but there are a number of reasons why we don't believe any of the major ones:

  1. Murphy has not starred in a hit film since The Nutty Professor II in 2000; he's no longer a bankable superstar worthy of this role.
  2. Batman & Robin, with Chris O'Donnell in the latter role, is considered the worst movie - by far - in the franchise; no way they resurrect this sidekick character.
  3. Murphy is pretty much confirmed for Beverly Hills Cop 4.

What do you think? Is there any chance Murphy takes on this role? And would you wanna see him as The Riddler?

Washed Up Actors Plan Future Projects

Say this about Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers, whose previous movies - Meet Dave and The Love Guru - completely tanked:

They're persisent.

Each recently talked to MTV News about their future projects, each sounding excited to put past failures behind them.

“This picture I’m doing now called A Thousand Words is like nothing I’ve ever done before. It’s not a kids movie, a family movie. It’s a really, funny smart picture. Different,” Murphy said. “I play this literary agent who finds out he only has 1000 words left to say and then he’s going to die.”

Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers

Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers teamed up to voice characters in Shrek. The career paths of these actors have been on a downward spiral ever since.

Yes, it’s high concept project from the actor .Forget about the debate over Beverly Hills Cop 4, and whether it will or will not contain profanity; the second half of this movie won’t contain words. At all.

“The whole second half of the picture, my character can’t talk," Murphy said.' This is a guy who’s used his mouth. He’s always fast talking, and all of a sudden he has to shut the f—k up,” Murphy said. “It turns into this like charade.”

Eddie Murphy Won't Rule Out Beverly Hills Cop 4

Beverly Hills Cop 4 could actually become a reality - but first Eddie Murphy wants to make sure the script is worthwhile.

"All I know is that it's gonna be something that's special. I'm not doing just, hey give me some big check and I go off [does the Foley laugh] and shoot the gun and jump over cars," Murphy told MTV News. "Like, that's some bullsh-t. If I do it, it's gonna be some sh-t that's right!"

Amen, Eddie!

Eddie Murphy Picture

Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been rumored to be in various stages of development for the last 14 years, ever since Beverly Hills Cop 3. Oops. We might not wanna mention that film in front of Murphy.

"I've been in a bunch of different meetings with people, ‘Oh, we have to take Axel this way." I ain't seen no script yet [but] I'm not rolling out ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4' for it to be a continuation of ‘Beverly Hills Cop III,' which was a crock of sh-t," Murphy said. "I wanna do a good one!"

Will Murphy's next comedy, Meet Dave, be a good one? Based on its previews, we'd have to say no.

Eddie Murphy to Star in Fantasy Island

The ManEddie Murphy sees da plane! Da plane! The Oscar nominee is attached to star in a feature film version of the TV classic Fantasy Island.

Murphy was first linked to the project a few months ago by IESB.net and now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Dreamgirls and Beverly Hills Cop star will topline the project.

Fantasy Island will be produced by John Davis, Marc Toberoff, Leonard Goldberg and Lucas Foster.

According to THR, "Murphy will play multiple roles in the film. ... Described as a family-oriented comedy, the project will be written by Jay Scherick and David Ronn, who most recently teamed with Murphy on Norbit."

Gee, that makes us oh so very excited for Fantasy Island.
