Eclipse Spoilers

Eclipse Gets Street Cred

Okay, well, maybe not street cred, but Eclipse director David Slade is racking up his goth points by casting Bauhaus front man Peter Murphy for a cameo role.

David Slade peaces out

If you're totally clueless as to who Peter Murphy is, or who or what Bauhaus was (aside from being a German art school and successive movement, it was also the name of a proto-goth band in the 80s), don't be alarmed, it was all before your time. David Slade (pictured above) is just trying to be cool attract an older male audience to his entry in the Twilight Saga.

With Twilight and New Moon catering to a largely female and tween demographic, it's easy to see why the director of such violent, testosterone-centric films as Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night would be interested in injecting some old-school rock and roll into the young franchise. But that doesn't mean the cameo will be out of place.

Murphy, the so-called Godfather of Goth, who used to rise from coffins onstage and drive a hearse, is appropriately portraying a vampire in the new film.

"He plays a vampire in a flashback sequence," explained Eclipse actor Billy Burke. "I didn't get to see any of it, but all reports from the director David Slade, and everyone around say he just kicked ass. I'm real excited to see it."

You'll have to wait until next year to see it, when Eclipse hits theaters on June 30, 2010.

Facinelli on Eclipse: Action Packed

It keeps getting better for Peter Facinelli. First he gets cast in New Moon, the sequel to the tween panty-drenching powerhouse Twilight, then he gets to reprise his role in the following film, Eclipse.

Now, he's got something even more exciting to add to his repertoire: vampire brawls!

Peter Facinelli in New Moon 1

"'New Moon' is going to have a lot more action than 'Twilight,' which I'm excited about, and then take the action in 'New Moon' and double it in 'Eclipse,'" Facinelli says. "I get to be a part of that action, which is fun because Carlisle is this calm figure. I think the vampire brawls are going to be exciting."

Facinelli plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen, head of Edward's clan. In Eclipse, the Cullens and Jacob's werewolf pack must band together to take on an army of vampires created by revenge-minded Victoria.

New Moon hits theaters on November 20, while Eclipse is set for release June 30, 2010.

Eclipse: Going Dark!

This will come as no surprise to readers of the book, but the big screen version of Eclipse will be far darker than the first two installments in this franchise.

So says screenwriters Melissa Rosenberg. In an interview with E! News, she he credits the storyline and director David Slade for this tone.

"David has a darker sensibility, so it clicks," Rosenberg said. "The story has a slightly darker tone. I mean, it goes into a full-out battle, so it is darker in the nature of what it is. David was the perfect director for it."

On New Moon Set

Don't worry, fans, Rosenberg added: Eclipse won't be unrecognizable.

"They have the continuity of having the same writers and same actors, but the directors put their own stamp on it. They'll be similar, but very different."

Jackson Rathbone Dishes on Eclipse Fight Scenes, Character Background

He doesn't receive the hype of Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart, but Jackson Rathbone plays a key role in the Twilight Saga. He stars in the franchise as Jasper Hale.

Earlier this week, the young actor spoke to MTV News about his character's role in Eclipse, which began shooting in Vancouver last month. Here's a bit of what he had to say:

On shooting Eclipse: I got a chance to read the script, and we get to go back into Jasper's backstory. They actually had to ask me about my equestrian experience. I told them I can gallop and trot and all that. I used to ride. It's been two or three years since I've been on a horse, but I'm excited to get back up on the saddle.

On Jasper's fighting scenes: it won't be karate, it won't be kung fu, like the stuff we're doing in "Airbender." But even in "Airbender," the fighting styles I was doing were a little bit more loose, like street fighting. And that's kind of what this is; it's about evading.

On Jasper's ability to influence others: It's a natural thing, like the human ability to smell or to hear is a natural ability. To affect the mental state of anyone around you [I depicted Jasper as] keeping it all right in the eyes. Just thinking it and transferring it through the eyes, which are the windows to the soul — even to the soulless.

Bryce Dallas Howard Takes Over Role of Victoria in Eclipse

Twilight fans will soon have a new star to scream over.

Bryce Dallas Howard is taking over the role of Victoria from Rachelle Lefevre, whose committment to the movie Barney's Version made it impossible for her to begin shooting Eclipse on August 17 in Vancouver.

Lefevre portrayed the Bella-hating Victoria in Twilight and will do so again in November's New Moon.

"We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise," said Erik Feig, president of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions for Summit Entertainment. "Rachelle brought Victoria to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role."

So, it will be Howard that seduces newborn vampire Riley, to be portrayed by fellow franchise newcomer Xavier Samuel in Eclipse. What do you think of this casting change?
