Isla Fisher Dishes on Definitely Maybe

Definitely, Maybe PicIsla Fisher is slowly becoming known as more than simply the better-looking half of her and Sacha Baron Cohen. The actress stars in the new romantic comedy, Definitely Maybe.

She discusses her career, and the role, below:

ComingSoon.net: Do you enjoy playing the sexy, funny woman in movies like this or Wedding Crashers? Would you like to eventually branch out and try more dramatic roles?
Isla Fisher: Yeah, I wanna keep working, but I want to play different types of characters. That’s what really peaked my interest about this material when I read the script, that I wasn’t playing the crazy, larger-than-life person. I was playing the heart of the movie in some ways… I don’t wanna give away the ending, but it was a dramatic role essentially and that’s why I enjoyed doing it.

CS: Is Definitely, Maybe a realistic movie [compared with other romantic comedies]?
Fisher: It depends on the romantic comedy. Some of the slick, Hollywood romantic comedies where you know in the first act who’s gonna end up with who aren’t realistic. A movie like this where all the women in the movie are just normal people who are flawed and there’s no good or bad people can definitely be a realistic story.

- Rising above the commonplace and the cliché, it’s wry, smart and just sentimental enough to warm the cockles of an audience’s collective heart while skirting the treacherous shoals of the mawkish.Killer Movie Reviews

- Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Bresling give likable performances in this charming romantic comedy about a divorced dad relating to his daughter his fables and foibles in a more mature, subtle, and realistic way than is the norm of the genre.Emanuel Levy

Definitely, Maybe an Interview with Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds stars alongside Abigail Breslin in the upcoming movie Definitely Maybe. The film actually looks like a sweet, funny romantic comedy.

Here are highlights from an interview the actor gave to ComingSoon.net:

CS: There’s definitely a balance you have to keep in a light romantic comedy. What are some pitfalls of the genre, things that would throw a romantic comedy out of whack?
Reynolds
: I dunno, I don’t feel this movie contains the conventions that typical romantic comedies do. It’s more like a romantic whodunit. You don’t look at the poster and go, “Oh, he ends up with her.” You just don’t.

That’s the reason for me to do it. I don’t know what the pitfalls are of a romantic comedy… a big musical montage about a girl trying 35 different dresses on, I dunno.

CS: Who are some of your comedic influences?
Reynolds: At a young age I was given a box set called “Just For Laughs” and I used to listen to it over and over and over again. It was all old Abbot and Costello routines and the Jack Benny stuff, the radio plays. “The World’s Cheapest Man.”
