Two New Cloverfield Photos

"We live in a time of great fear. Having a movie that is about something as outlandish as a massive creature attacking your city allows people to process and experience that fear in a way that is incredibly entertaining and incredibly safe. I want to have that experience myself â€" to go to a movie that's about something larger-than-life and hyper-real, and Cloverfield certainly is."
â€" J.J. Abrams, Producer, Cloverfield

Possible Cloverfield Spoilers: A Look at the Monster

But here's a a Cloverfield monster toy, created by Peter Konig, the art director for the film. Might it be what the actual destructive force in the movie looks like?

Michael Stahl-David Readies for Destruction in Cloverfield

Michael Stahl-David recently spoke to IGN about his character in Cloverfield, Rob Hawkins:

"He's a guy in his mid-20s who has just landed this big job in Japan and the movie starts with them having a going away party for him," said Stahl-David, referencing the now-familiar opening moments from that first trailer. "I think he's somebody that people expected would be further along in his life than he is. This is not another in a long string of accomplishments.

This is like the first time he's getting his s--t together. And he's also in a relationship with this girl, which has always been a friendship but has recently changed, and that's kind of when catastrophe strikes. And things get put into perspective for him."

Sorry, this isn't a shot of the mysterious monster in Cloverfield.

But it is a photo of Mike Vogel and Michael Stahl-David from the film, hitting theaters on January 18.

Michael Stahl-David Dishes on Cloverfield

Michael Stahl-DavidMichael Stahl-David isn't a huge name in Hollywood.

But that may change as this actor stars in the upcoming monster movie, Cloverfield. Of course, Stahl-David says the J.J. Abrams flick isn't really even about the mysterious villain:

"I think in some ways it's as much a survival movie as it is about the monster," he said. "The monster is definitely the problem, but you're seeing it the way we would, we don't pan back and watch it perfectly. It is going to be exciting.

It is contemporary film vocabulary - this kind of first-hand account, something that could've been on YouTube or something. Someone just holds up the camera and starts filming, there are probably other accounts, [our footage is] just the one the government happens to find."

Cloverfield to Feature Star Trek Trailer

244jjabrams091906.jpg Fans attending Cloverfield, the mysterious monster movie from the mind of J.J. Abrams (pictured) will be in for a double treat early next year:

The flick will feature a preview for the upcoming Star Trek film.

Writer/director Matt Reeves has already seen it.

"Way back, J.J. was like ‘When Cloverfield comes out, Star Trek will be on it,'" Reeves said of his movie, which will hit theaters on January 8. "I was like ‘That's a terrific idea; that's exciting'. So, I've known for a long, long, time that was their plan, and I've just recently seen bits of the teaser. I think it's amazing, and it looks pretty incredible."

As MTV reports, Abrams is a producer on Cloverfield, and one of the main driving forces behind its unorthodox advertising campaign.

Reeves, meanwhile, has been busy at work attaching trailers for his friend's much-anticipated movie on to the front of his own.

"I think people are going to be very excited," he teased. "It's a teaser, you know, it's a teaser trailer. But still, I was like ‘Wow!' Just the scope of it, the scale of it, you just look at it and it's so elegantly done... this is a great way to reboot the franchise, and get people excited about something new."

Cloverfield Director Speaks Out

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the man behind the monster.

Matt Reeves directed Cloverfield, the top secret film from the mind of J.J. Abrams. It comes out in January and the Internet is abuzz about it... despite having little idea about the flick's actual premise.

Perhaps the following interview with Reeves can help clear that up...

ShockTillYouDrop.com: When he addressed the geek nation at Comic-Con, J.J. Abrams voiced his desire to give America their own giant monster to fear. Did you feel the same way? That the genre still hadn't been approach properly on our own turf?
Matt Reeves: Absolutely, but also the thing that was exciting to me was the approach to the film. Take a monster movie but do it in a way that was very naturalistic and authentic. The idea of that juxtaposition - a realistic monster movie was the thing that excited me most. That was the best way to create a monster that we could proud of.

Shock: There's concern out there that you're using this style to hide the monster and that we won't ever get a good look at it - similar to "The Blair Witch Project."
Reeves: It's funny, when we first started I hadn't seen "Blair Witch" at the time and thought I should go look at it because obviously there will be comparisons with the Handicam approach. I thought the concept was effective but I noticed immediately that they hadn't followed their idea through as clearly as what we were going to do.

I think in that movie, it's not only the Handicam but there's 16mm black-and-white footage inter-cut, too. We wanted this to be as if someone found a Handicam, took out the tape and put it in the player to watch it. What you're watching is a home movie that then turns into something else. But the other thing I noticed was that the "Blair Witch" guys obviously didn't have the resources to make a big movie and this was a great way to tell their story. They used that to their advantage to create great suspense.

We're creating great suspense while you see the great features of this monster. The other thing I think is very exciting is this monster is huge and you see everything. You see it in a way that is if you're shooting it with a Handicam. If you're hiding under a car, you see it that way, and there are other moments - I can guarantee you - you are seeing this monster in a huge way.
