Cloverfield Sequel Placed on Hold

At first, a Cloverfield sequel was considered a foregone conclusion.

But Director Matt Reeves told SCI FI Wire that plans for a follow-up film have been put on hold until the filmmakers can come up with an idea as interesting as the original.

"The thing that we sort of promised ourselves is we only wanted to do another one if we could come up with something that felt as fresh to us to make as that one did," Reeves said recently.

Reeves added:

"We're still kind of toying with what it's going to be and whether or not we're going to find something that will be as exciting for us to make and, hopefully, for an audience to watch. So we'll see. It's really in the baby, baby stages. And right now it's definitely on hold until we come up with what that would be."

This is almost refreshing to hear. We'd love for there to be a Cloverfield sequel, but we're glad the producers aren't willing to throw any crap on screen, know what we mean?

Hud: Right.
[awkward silent pause]
Hud: I just can't stop thinking how scary it'd be if a flaming homeless guy came running...

Cloverfield Sequel to Be Named Aladygma?

Considering the original Cloverfield is still playing in many theaters, these is an extraordinarily early movie rumor.

But moviesonline.ca is claiming that the follow-up to this hit film may be called Aladygma. As the site reports:

Apparently, [Aladygma] is the code name for Cloverfield 2. It is, however, important to note that JJ Abrams has more then one untitled covert film in the works.

This is all we know about the film at the moment. Please send in any news you hear on the possibility of Cloverfield 2.

Matt Reeves Considered to Direct Cloverfield 2

reeves_matt.jpg Director Matt Reeves (pictured) might helm the rumored Cloverfield sequel, according to Variety, which is also reporting that Reeves will direct The Invisible Woman.

Timing of the projects will depend on how quickly Paramount can complete discussions with Reeves, producer J.J. Abrams and scribe Drew Goddard to scare up another monster tale for the Cloverfield sequel.

The Invisible Woman is a Hitchcock-style thriller that probes the mind of a former beauty queen who turns to a life of crime to protect her family. Reeves wrote the script and will produce with Abrams.

"Matt has created a truly original and compelling character and story," said GreeneStreet's John Penotti.

With a $25 million budget, a strong concept and cast of unknowns, Cloverfield scored a $46 million opening weekend, which was a record for a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Cloverfield Action Figure on the Way!

We don't know what it looks like yet - guess that would be a Cloverfield spoiler if we did - but Hasbro has announced it will be releasing a Cloverfield monster figure that will be a "highly detailed representation of the beast."

"Hasbro is very excited to be working with Paramount and Bad Robot to bring to market a piece of the film for fans and collectors," said Brian Goldner, COO of Hasbro, Inc. "The fan buzz on this film has been terrific and we are happy to take part in the excitement."

The figure will stand 14 inches tall and will come with two interchangable heads - one depicting a calm face and the other an agitated face - and it even comes with the head of the Statue of Liberty, as well.

Cloverfield Sequel in the Works?

As Cloverfield shatters January box office records, the question of a sequel to this monster movie is already being asked?

What does Director Matt Reeves have to say about a Cloverfield 2? The following:

"Only time will tell. While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie!

Reel Movie Reviews: Cloverfield

reel-reviews-logo42.jpg J.J. Abrams! A monster! All that mystery!

For months and months, movie fans have been teased about the upcoming horror/suspense film, Cloverfield. But does the flick live up to the hype? Let's see how a handful of critics feel about it...

- Cloverfield is a fun movie. Plain and simple. It's sit back, relax and go. It's a roller coaster ride. -- Slash Film

- A combination of unpleasantness and stupidity that would be difficult to match, unless you were stuck in bed with the flu while being forced to watch Lou Dobbs. -- Kyle Smith

- A robust 80-minute burst of barely-controlled mayhem. Monster fans will love it. -- Fearnet.com

- Will grab you in its jaws, toss you around like a chew toy for a rollicking 80 minutes (yes, it's a short â€" but oh so sweet â€" flick) and still leave you panting for more. -- IGN

Two New Cloverfield Photos

"We live in a time of great fear. Having a movie that is about something as outlandish as a massive creature attacking your city allows people to process and experience that fear in a way that is incredibly entertaining and incredibly safe. I want to have that experience myself â€" to go to a movie that's about something larger-than-life and hyper-real, and Cloverfield certainly is."
â€" J.J. Abrams, Producer, Cloverfield
