New Moon Image, Dish from Director

We've got a couple of interesting New Moon updates for fans.

First, a new photo from the movie has been leaked.

In it, Bella and Jacob lock eye in the front seat of car, as the character recreate one of the most memorable scenes from Stephenie Meyer's novel. Will Bella give in to temptation and lay a kiss on Jacob?

Edward, after all, has been absent from her life for a long time at this point in the story.

Meanwhile, director Chris Weitz gave an in-depth interview to Rotten Tomatoes about the movie. We've excerpted the part where he describes his favorite scene:

"There were a lot of fun scenes to film, frankly," Weitz recalls. "I really did enjoy the scenes in the Volturi headquarters [filmed on Vancouver soundstages], although it was a tremendous logistical headache. In a way, it's the scenes that you dread the most, because they are so time consuming and you have to get them just right, which is like the stuff in the Volturi headquarters, or the stuff that was shot in Montepulciano.

Confirmed: Taylor Lautner to Return in New Moon

Taylor Lautner can breathe a sigh of relief.

Following weeks of rumors that he may be replaced in New Moon, the highly-anticipated sequel to Twilight, director Chris Weitz has confirmed that Lautner will be back in the role of Jacob.

“I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer,” Weitz posted on author Stephenie Meyer’s official website, stepheniemeyer.com.

The author herself is very much behind the decision, adding:

“My first priority was always what was best for New Moon - what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.”

Confirmed: Chris Weitz to Direct New Moon

It didn't take long to find a substitute for Catherine Hardwicke.

A week after it was announced that the Twilight director would not be returning for the movie's sequel, Chris Weitz has been confirmed as her replacement for New Moon.

The Golden Compass director released the following statement, regarding the decision to help this wildly-anticipated sequel:

“I am honored to have been entrusted with shepherding New Moon from the page to the screen. The extraordinary world that [author Stephenie Meyer] has created has millions of fans, and it will be my duty to protect on their behalf the characters, themes and story they love. This is not a task to be taken lightly, and I will put every effort into realizing a beautiful film to stand alongside a beautiful book.”

Chris Weitz Considered for New Moon

Will Chris Weitz direct New Moon?

That's the rumor making the rounds in Hollywood.

Reports indicate that the director of The Golden Compass and About a Boy may help this much-hyped follow-up to Twilight.

Insiders say Weitz is the leading candidate because he and Summit's president of production, Eric Feig, are longtime friends. The source added that Weitz is "still considering" the offer to helm the movie.
