Catherine Hardwicke to Direct The Girl With the Red Riding Hood

Catherine Hardwicke knows what works for her.

The Twilight director - who is at least partially responsible for Robert Pattinson and his rise to stardom - has signed on her next project... and it's remarkably similar to her previous project!

Hardwicke will direct The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, a big screen adaption of the classic fairy tale.

The film will center on werewolves and - wouldn't you know it! - a teenage love triangle. No production date has been set yet.

Catherine Hardwicke Reveals Twilight Casting Scoop

Attention, Twilight Saga fans:

Prior to this week's Teen Choice Awards, director Catherine Hardwicke revealed a rather juicy bit of news:

It turns out that Bryce Dallas Howard - who will replace Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria for Eclipse - was the director's first choice for that character.

However, Howard balked because she considered the role too minor at the time. With Victoria featured prominently in Eclipse, the actress was glad to accept.

This seems to lend credence to Lefevre's argument that she was forced out of the project. Watch the revealing Hardwicke interview below:

What's next? Will we find out that Robert Pattinson was never the original Edward Cullen? We'll keep readers posted.

Catherine Hardwicke: Fired from New Moon!

Startling news out of the Twilight world today:

Director Catherine Hardwicke will reportedly NOT be asked to helm the film's sequel, New Moon.

The Cullen Family

According to Deadline Hollywood, Hardwicke “was difficult and irrational during the making of Twilight.”

The franchise, which has already accrued over $160 million and is headlined by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, will not seek a new director for its next two films.

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon," said Hardwicke. "Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel -- it is a great story."

Catherine Hardwicke: New Moon is Up My Alley

Twilight director Catherine Hardwick has not officially signed on for the upcoming movie version of New Moon.

But her thoughts about the project, given in a new interview, make it as close to a done deal as possible that the director will be on board:

New Moon's really taking a whole other leap with this new story and there's really a lot of new characters in it. There's the werewolves which is pretty crazy. All the wolves. Then there's also going to Italy in the second book and there's motorcycle riding and cliff-jumping and diving.

I love jumping off of cliffs. So it's kind of up my alley – into water, yeah.

Twilight Stars

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will each return for New Moon.
