Donne Darko Director Considers Twilight Movie

Richard Kelly's The Box hit theaters today, and already there is speculation on his next project. Would the man who brought us Donnie Darko and Southland Tales be up to the task of Breaking Dawn, the fourth chapter in the Twilight saga?

Richard Kelly on set

"I don't even know if [Summit Entertainment] would ever be interested in someone like me. I'm certainly keeping an open mind," Kelly said.

There is no official word on who will be directing Breaking Dawn, and certainly no formal offer to Kelly to direct it, but the auteur is looking to collaborate on projects that are not of his own creation.

"Now, more than ever, I think I'm open to doing something that isn't an original or that's something from another script," he explained. "I'm just trying to keep my mind open to any possibilities that might present themselves."

As the edgy David Slade racks up cool points on Eclipse, maybe there is room in the Twilight universe for Richard Kelly after all.

Breaking Dawn: On the Way, Toned Down

The buzz is building for New Moon.

Filming has started on Eclipse.

But what about Breaking Down? The fourth book in Stephenie Meyer's series is coming to theaters, right?

"The fans should rest assured the we're working with Stephenie Meyer to bring Breaking Dawn to the big screen," a rep told E! News. "As in all creative processes, things take time. We want to make sure we get it right."

Because the final film in the franchise is more adult than any other, those behind it are worried about toning down its scenes.

"Our fans are in the PG age range, and I don't feel a big necessity to see violence and to see gore," said Melissa Rosenberg, a writer in Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse.

As for the movie's stars, Kristen Stewart said earlier this year that she certainly assumes Breaking Dawn will be made.

"We all really hope there is going to be a number four. I'm pretty confident that the fans aren't going to... lose interest. The only case that a fourth one wouldn't be made is if all of a sudden people stopped caring, and I really don't think that's going to happen."

Breaking Dawn: Coming Kinda Soon?

While buzz for New Moon continues to heat up the Internet, new reports state that the big screen version of Breaking Dawn might not be too far away, either.

Summit Entertainment is reportedly hoping to complete its Twilight franchise sooner than expected.

"With the sequel to the blockbuster hit New Moon now filming in Vancouver and its sequel, Eclipse, already deep in the planning stages, an individual close to the production has told The Wrap that work on the fourth and final in the series, Breaking Dawn, will start in late spring 2010," sources told The Wrap.

The site adds that "a Summit executive who declined to be identified said that there was no production schedule for Breaking Dawn, and no current plans to shoot in Vancouver."
