Bond 22 to be Titled Quantum of Solace

Sony Pictures has announced that the official title for the 22nd James Bond installment will be Quantum of Solace.

The film had been going by the working title of “Bond 22″ until now. This new name is taken from one of a collection of short stories published by 007 creator Ian Fleming in 1960.

James Bond: Quantum of Solace is set for a November 7 release.

As for the plot of the film:

The new film finds Bond (Daniel Craig) out for revenge on a mission that takes him to Austria, Italy and South America. Bond girl Camille, played by Ukrainian-born Olga Kurylenko, leads the secret agent to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), member of a mysterious organization and a ruthless businessman, seeking to control huge natural resources.

“James Bond is after revenge, and Camille is after revenge and they have slightly different goals, but in the end they are going to have to collaborate,” Kurylenko said.

Daniel Craig Speaks on Bond 22 Cast, Story Lines

Daniel Craig recently spoke at length about the next James Bond movie with RottenTomatoes.com.

The actor confirmed that Bond 22 “carries on from where (Casino Royale) stopped… We set up in the last one that there’s this organization that is destabilizing the world’s economy because they want to take it over, and that’s his job now, to go out and stop them.”

As for all the actors that have come aboard the franchise, Craig is “over the moon” about the casting of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’s Mathieu Almaric as the film’s main villain, Dominic Greene.

“I met him very briefly on Munich but I didn’t do any scenes with him,” Craig said. “Now I’ve got to know him on Bond and I saw (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and thought it was amazing.”

Having already worn the moniker of 007 for one movie, and pleased longtime James Bond fans, Craig sounds far more relaxed for the 22nd film in the franchise.

“I’m no less nervous than I was, but I’m very happy with what we’ve put together for this one. The fact that Marc Forster’s come in to direct it just makes my job a lot easier. He’s taken care of a lot of stuff that I just don’t have to think about and I’m just getting on with acting.”

As we’ve reported, a pair of beauties have also been added to the cast: Gemma Arterton and Olga Kurylenko.

Olga Kurylenko Cast in Bond 22

Actress and Ukrainian model Olga Kurylenko is the latest addition to the cast of the Bond 22 (most likely to be renamed 007).

Kurylenko will be joining returning stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench (M), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter) and Giancarlo Giannini (Mathis) in the movie.

In recent weeks, Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and relative newcomer Gemma Arterton has been leaked as the new villain and Bond girl (an MI6 agent), respectively.

Commenting on the casting, series producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement:

“We are fortunate to continue in the Bond tradition of attracting the finest international actors for our starring roles. Mathieu in the role of Dominic Greene, a leading member of the villainous organization introduced in Casino Royale, will be a powerful counterpart to Daniel’s portrayal of Bond.”

Olga Kurylenko will play the dangerously alluring Camille,” they continued. “Who challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper’s betrayal.”

Gemma Arterton: In Bond 22, Not as Bond Girl

Well, we got it partially correct.

Gemma Arterton will appear in Bond 22, but she reportedly will NOT be portraying the main Bond Girl in the film.

The Hollywood Reporter recently wrote: “Arterton will play ‘Fields’ in the Marc Forster-directed movie, which has the working title of Bond 22 and stars Daniel Craig as Agent 007.”

The Bond Girl character is said to be Latina (Mayrin Villanueva?), so Arterton would play supporting character. But The Hollywood Reporter called Arterton’s character Fields “a nice-sized role.”

Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Giannini Return in 007

The latest bond film – rumored to be named simply 007 – began filming at Pinewood Studios in England today, and it looks like two Casino Royale cast members are set to reprise their roles in the sequel.

According to Variety, Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Giannini are both returning for the film. In 007’s previous installment, Wright played CIA agent Felix Leiter, Bond’s American liaison and all-round best buddy.

Giannini, meanwhile, will again portray corrupt cop Mathis, Bond’s ally in Montenegro that betrayed him and was last seen being carted off to jail by.

Both casting choices reinforce the rumors that the plot of 007 will carry on directly from Casino Royale, with the British secret agent possibly set to continue investigating the criminal cartel that caused so much mischief last time round.

Joaquin Cosio Signs on for Bond 22

Following the confirmed castings of Mathieu Amalric and Anatole Taubman in Bond 22, Mexican actor Jaquin Cosio says he has landed the role of a Latin American General called “General Medrano.” in the film.

“There are various enemies, and I’m one of them. I’m General Medrano, Bond’s enemy in Latin America, but there are other enemies waiting in Europe for Bond”, the actor told Mexican newspaper El Diario.

“I’m really pleased to be chosen to participate in such a huge film, it’s a great achievement that the film will feature a Mexican actor,” he added. “I still don’t know much of the script, I don’t really know what my scenes will be like, but I know that I’m going to film in Panama, Bolivia and London.”

Bond 22 News: Movie Name, Bond Girl Rumors

In a recent interview, Daniel Craig hinted at the real name of the upcoming James Bond movie. (You didn’t think it would actually be called Bond 22, did you?)

The actor said that because Casino Royale dealt with Bond attaining his 00 status, the new film would chronicle his first actual mission as 007. Therefore, Craig hinted that the title for the film could quite simply be 007. Works for us.

Meanwhile, the latest name thrown around as being cast as the next Bond Girl is Gemma Arterton.

Several British newspapers - The Sun, The Guardian and The Daily Mail - report that the unknown British actress has been cast in the coveted role. However, the papers attribute the news to MarieClaire.com, but a search of the site turned up no such report.

Others rumored to be up for the part have included Cleo Pires and Mayrin Villanueva.

Anatole Taubmann Cast as Villain in Bond 22

No, we still don’t know which lovely actress will play the next Bond Girl in Bond 22.

But we have now been informed that Swiss actor Anatole Taubmann has been cast as a henchman in the forthcoming James Bond film. Taubmann’s casting comes on the heels of the confirmation that French actor Mathieu Amalric has won the role of Bond 22’s main villain.

Anatole Taubman

According to CommanderBond.net, Taubmann made the casting announcement during an appearance on the Swiss TV show glanz & gloria, telling viewers:

“James Bond — that’s like playing the Champions League. For a European actor, this is like a gold ticket. There’s nothing better. I’m very happy.”

Eva Green: Down with Bond 22 Girl!

Eva Green recently gave a long interview to The Guardian in Great Britain.

When asked if she’d be appearing in Bond 22 - despite her character being killed off at the end of Casino Royale - the actress replied that 007 would be pursuing Lynd’s duplicitous Algerian boyfriend, so…

“Yes there will be pictures [of Vesper] and things like that. I don’t know who the Bond girl’s gonna be. I’m a bit jealous! I hope it will be terrible. I will be the love of his life!”

We think she’s mostly kidding, so whoever lands the Bond Girl role can relax. It’s still unclear who that will be, of course, as rumors have mentioned actresses from Mayrin Villanueva to Cleo Pires.

Meanwhile, Green teams up again with Daniel Craig in The Golden Compass. How does she think he’s changed since becoming Bond?

“He’s working like a dog. He really wants to prove that he can do other stuff. He’s working on [second world war resistance drama] Defiance at the moment. It’s great for him. I mean, everyone wants him. Independent movies, Jim Jarmusch, anything. He doesn’t have “the Bond curse” at all. He’s great. He deserves it.”

Daniel Craig Dishes on Bond 22, Possible Sequel to The Golden Compass

Daniel Craig is a busy man these days.

With The Golden Compass hitting theaters in two weeks - and filming set to begin on Bond 22 - the actor found time to speak with Comingsoon.net about the pair of projects:

Daniel Craig Picture CS: I read somewhere you’re going to inject a bit more humor into the next movie.
Craig: I was lying. I said, “Yes, it’s going to be funny.” I don’t remember saying that, but if I did, I’m not going to shy away from the fact the occasionally there should be humor. I just don’t like gags. I don’t like written gags. That’s not the way I’ve ever liked working and I don’t think that’s funny myself.

CS: “Casino Royale” marked a welcome return to the style and sensibilities of the earlier Bond movies, rather than the jokey more recent movies.
Craig: The idea of having jokes in Bond I don’t think is completely wrong, but I think the jokes to need to come out tension. There needs to be moments of humor because we’ve all been sitting on the edge of our seat. I don’t think you should write gags in Bond.

CS: I understand there’s already a script for a sequel to “The Golden Compass.” Have you read it yet?
Craig: There’s an outline. It’s a pretty good outline. I haven’t looked at it. I’ve seen bits of it, but haven’t looked at it.

CS: Assuming Golden Compass is a hit and they make a second film, and you’re already signed up to do the next Bond, are you looking ahead to work both into your schedule?
Craig: That will be the plan, but it just depends on how well we do here. I try not to count chickens. I really do because there’s no point. You’d go crazy. We’re in good shape and I’m very happy with the way this is working out. I’d love to get involved with it. If they do another movie, I’d love to do it. We’ll fit it in. It’s not my job to make that work. I pay people fortunes to make that.
