Beverly Hills Cop 4 Plot Details: Revealed!

What could possible draw Axel Foley back into the world of Beverly Hills Cop?

Rumors floating around the Internet outline the plot of Beverly Hills Cop 4, making the follow-up film - more than 25 years after the original hit theaters - a strong possibility.

Here's how Latino Review summarizes the synopsis of the movie:

Judge Reinhold's Billy Rosewood takes a leap out the 20th story of the Los Angeles Police headquarters. When Axel hears that his former partner and best friend supposedly killed himself, he knows it wasn't a suicide and he flies to Beverly Hills to get all the facts for himself.

Beverly Hills Cop 4: A New Interpretation

Beverly Hills Cop would be nothing without two things:

  1. Eddie Murphy as Detective Axel Foley;
  2. The movie's Grammy-winning theme song.

To assuage any fears fans may have director Brett Ratner told E! that both will return for the next movie in the franchise.

"It's a whole new interpretation," Ratner said.

Moreover, composer/producer Harold Faltermeyer's famous synth-pop theme will receive an update, but not too much. After all, as Ratner asked: "Why change that song?"

The director said one of the "biggest problems" with director Michael Mann's movie adaptation of Miami Vice with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in 2006 was the missing iconic theme song.

"I said to [Mann], 'Why didn't you have it?' " Ratner says. "He said, 'We're doing something new.' That's like doing Mission Impossible without the theme song."

Ratner added that production on Beverly Hills Cop 4 will begin filming next year; it's aiming for a 2010 release.

Eddie Murphy Won't Rule Out Beverly Hills Cop 4

Beverly Hills Cop 4 could actually become a reality - but first Eddie Murphy wants to make sure the script is worthwhile.

"All I know is that it's gonna be something that's special. I'm not doing just, hey give me some big check and I go off [does the Foley laugh] and shoot the gun and jump over cars," Murphy told MTV News. "Like, that's some bullsh-t. If I do it, it's gonna be some sh-t that's right!"

Amen, Eddie!

Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been rumored to be in various stages of development for the last 14 years, ever since Beverly Hills Cop 3. Oops. We might not wanna mention that film in front of Murphy.

"I've been in a bunch of different meetings with people, ‘Oh, we have to take Axel this way." I ain't seen no script yet [but] I'm not rolling out ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4' for it to be a continuation of ‘Beverly Hills Cop III,' which was a crock of sh-t," Murphy said. "I wanna do a good one!"

Will Murphy's next comedy, Meet Dave, be a good one? Based on its previews, we'd have to say no.

Beverly Hills Cop 4: Planned!

Who knew that a cop from Beverly Hills and a series of revived dinosaurs had so much in common?

Following news that Jurassic Park 4 was in the works - despite the less-than-well-received showing of that franchise's third installment - we've learned that a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie is also planned.

Did anyone even see Beverly Hills Cop 3?

Reportedly, Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley in the rumored Beverly Hills Cop 4. With his career not exactly taking off (although he was nominated for an Oscar for Dreamgirls), the actor took the idea for another movie to Paramount.

Do you wanna see Eddie Murphy return for Beverly Hills Cop 4?

The fourth Beverly Hills Cop film is set to start production some time next year for a summer 2010 release, with Brett Ratner in talks to direct.

The original Beverly Hills Cop, released in 1984, grossed $316 million worldwide. Together with the 1987 sequel and 1994 third installment, the trilogy grossed $712.9 million across the globe.
