Report Casts Doubt on Arrested Development Movie

Nooooo!

In Januuary, Will Arnett said: "For once and for all, the Arrested Development movie is happening!"

But is it, really?

Considering the amount of time that has passed since the Fox sitcom was on the air, as well as the other projects creator Mitch Hurwitz is developing, an insider told Zap2It that he doubts the project will ever get off the ground.

"I don't think Mitch is gonna do it," the source said. "It seems like he's moving off the idea. So much time has passed."

Jason Bateman Sets Time Table for Arrested Development Movie

It's no longer a question of if, but when.

An Arrested Development movie is most definitely in the works, but star Jason Bateman isn't sure when it will start shooting.

"It could be as early as the next six months or as late as 18," Bateman said last week. "[Creator Mitch Hurwitz] hasn’t told me what he has in mind. As fans of the show know, you can look at the very last scene of the last episode, which kind of dovetails into what the film could be."

As Michael Bluth

Tell us more, Michael Bluth:

"Maybe pitches to Ron Howard the idea about making a show about the family. He says, 'No, that wouldn’t work, but maybe a movie'. Read into that what you will," the actor said.

Arrested Development Movie Aims for Fall Shooting

Now that it's been confirmed, the only question remaining is when fans will see an Arrested Development movie on the big screen?

According to Will Arnett, the cast and crew would love to have the film wrapped prior to 2010.

"We want to get done by the end of the year and Mitch [Hurwitz, writer/director] is actively working on [it]," Arnett said to E! News. "Hopefully, by the fall, we’ll start rolling, as they say."

Arrested Development Movie Update from Series Creator

At WonderCon, a popular comic book convention held in San Franciso this week, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz updated fans about the status of a movie based on this popular sitcom.

"Here's what's going on with the movie. Everyone goes off and has careers and that kind of thing, so it's been a little challenging to schedule everybody together, but everyone who has agreed to make this movie has agreed to make this movie, and we're going to make the movie. I haven't written it yet, so I'll be accepting pitches. We're determined to do this."

For awhile, it was rumored that Michael Cera would not reprise his role as George Michael Bluth for an Arrested Development movie. But rest assured:

He's in.

Report: Michael Cera on Board for Arrested Development Movie

Yes!

Inside sources have confirmed to E! that Michael Cera will, indeed, star in the upcoming Arrested Development movie.

Following a series of rumors that the Superbad and Juno star would not reprise his hilarious role as George Michael Bluth, insiders now say he's on board. Thank goodness.

Young, Hilarious Star

As for other movie details, we may not hear about them for awhile.

Ron Howard told Ryan Seacrest at this year's Academy Awards:

"It's looking very much like we're going to make [the movie], but we've now been asked to stop offering any details. It's cloaked in a little mystery, but it's looking good."

Michael Cera WILL Appear in Arrested Development Movie

While fans get excited over the in-development Arrested Development movie, they also wonder whether Michael Cera will actually appear in the big screen version of this classic sitcom.

The actor has been noncommittal.

But former co-star Jeffrey Tambor made Cera's appearance a foregone conclusion in a recent interview with The New York Daily News.

Jeffrey Tambor

"If I have to call him up and say, 'Get on set right now, young man,' he'll be there. The movie is going to happen this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me."

You tell him, George Bluth!

Michael Cera Addresses Arrested Development Movie Rumors

When it comes to an upcoming movie based on the former Fox sitcom Arrested Development, two things are known:

  1. It's happening;
  2. Michael Cera is the only cast member to not commit to the film.

When approached by MTV about the project, Cera played down confirmation of the movie.

"There's no script or anything, so the movie, I think, is more hypothetical than people think," the actor said.

Asked if he was "holding out" on the reprisal of his TV role for the big screen version, the Juno star replied:

"I'd possibly play, I'd possibly put the script in my shredder. I may buy a shredder. People have asked me about it more than I've heard about it [in an official capacity] but I'd be very interested to see what the story is with it."

Man, when did George Michael Bluth become such a diva?!?

Arrested Development Movie, Michael Cera Update

For once and for all, the Arrested Development movie is happening!

- Will Arnett

We'll gladly take Arnett's word for this, as most cast and crew affiliated with the former Fox sitcom have confirmed a big screen version is in the works.

The one actor still not signed on for it? Michael Cera.

George-Michael Bluth

When asked about Cera's status for the film, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz told E! Online that he hopes George-Michael Bluth can be a part of the movie, as he's "just trying to get all the actors on board."

"I know he's thinking about it," Jason Bateman said about Cera. "And we're all awaiting some finality to all of that so Mitch can get writing."

So, why is the young Superbad star holding out?

"You'd have to get [Michael] on the phone to get his answer about whether he's going to come back and do it or not," Bateman said. "He's certainly not said that he won't do it. I think Michael is clearly the guy that has come out of Arrested Development with a very big plate, so I think he's trying to really give some responsible thought to what makes sense for him to do with his career. The guy is 20 years old and I'm sure he doesn't want to screw up this opportunity."

Arrested Development Movie Update: Rumors Galore!

Mitch Hurwitz, the creator and executive producer of Arrested Development, has confirmed that a movie about the beloved sitcom is in the works.

He's even announced a few ideas about what the plot may be focused on: Look for a possible "film within a film," Hurwitz recently said, one that picks up with Maeby Bluth's pitch of her life story in the final episode.

As for the rumor that Will Arnett and Michael Cera are the lone hold-outs, preventing the film from being made?

"Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue," Hurwitz said.

Come on, Cera , step up!

Jason Bateman Adds to Hype for Arrested Development Movie

Once again, Jason Bateman is speaking out about a possible Arrested Development movie.

(Seriously, if they don't come out with this film at this point, there's gonna be rioting actress America).

Jason Bateman Pic

Here's what the portrayer of Michael Bluth had to say:

ComingSoon, net: Will it be a relief when you actually start filming the Arrested Development movie so that people will stop asking you about it?
Jason Bateman: I don't mind talking about it! I'm as big a fan of it as they are. So I feel sort of fortunate that I'm able to give them information on it. I would want them to give me information on it if they had it. I can say that we're looking better than ever. There are just a few more conversations to be had with some cast members to see if they want to be a part of it. Once we get the head count we'll be able to go forward with it and hopefully start shooting in the summer.

CS: Do you see having Michael Cera and your relationship in film as something crucial? I thought that was one of the more important parts of the show.
Bateman: Sure. It's not obviously my decision to make. It'll be Mitch's, but there are so many different ways to go with it just based on it being an ensemble. I can't wait to see what he cooks up.
