Holy Moses! Fox Breaks Ten Commandments With New Bible Pic

The Red Sea is going to part again soon, but this time in... an action movie?

Moses 300

20th Century Fox is digging up the Ten Commandments to bring back the "biblical epic" genre with a retelling of the classic Moses story, Variety reports.  This time, though, the Old Testament will meet with new school action aesthetics, as the studio plans to tell the story 300-style.

The script will be written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, who recently completed a scripted retelling of Herman Melville's Moby Dick for director Timur Bekmambetov at Universal. Moby Dick was also pitched as a 300-esque actioner.

Congratulations, Zach Snyder! Thanks to you, kids all around the world are going to think everyone in the Old Testament was sexy, ripped and half-naked! Let's not even get started on the plethora of historical inaccuracies that are sure to be introdu- oh, right, it's the Bible.

Producer Hints at 300 Sequel, Revival of King Leonidas

300 spoiler alert: King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) dies at the end of the movie.

But in a recent interview with MTV, producer Mark Canton implied that the king might return for the inevitable 300 sequel.

“[The key to the sequel] is about getting it right, you know. [Writer Frank Miller] is a perfectionist, and so is [Director Zack Snyder]," said Canton. "And I think they set the bar pretty high.”

As for King Leonidas? Canton added:

“Never assume anything; never assume anything. It’ll be what it’ll be. But if we really do it, in this case, we have a visionary creator and a visionary filmmaker.”

Zack Snyder Discusses 300 Sequel

For over a year now there's been talk of a follow-up to 2007's wildly popular 300.   Now, director Zack Snyder reveals some new details about the potential sequel.

Snyder says that, "I know for a fact that Frank [Miller] is writing right now."  Like the original, Miller is first putting the story in graphic novel form before it makes it to a screenplay.

Apparently Miller is still "drawing away and seems to be knee-deep in it. I think he's going to head back to Greece again and do another reconnaissance."

300 Phalanx

As far as the style of the sequel, Synder says, "I think we would use the same technology... I don't want it to look too Star Wars-ian... Just from what [Miller] told me, it would be bigger as far as landscape and terrain. We're going to see Athens and the Aegean and other places. There would be an opportunity for bigger visions, though I'd hope for the same aesthetic. The tech we used for '300' was not a revolution. It's basically what the weatherman has. Look, instead of Accuweather it's Sparta... It's going to be the same way, but on crazier steroids."

Wow, we can already imagine the new 300 quotes we're going to be stuck hearing for years to come after this sequel.

Frank Miller Dishes on 300 Follow-Up

Rumors of sequel/prequel to Zack Snyder's 300 have been swirling for months.

Because the original film was focused on a standalone graphic novel, fans have wondered how involved graphic novelist Frank Miller will be in a new movie.

Dilios

The author addressed that issue in a new interview with Super Hero Hype:

"I've written a story that's not a prequel. It's definitely a further story in the Greco-Persian Wars, and it involves some of the same characters but I'm not sure exactly how far along it'll get and again, until it's on a marquee, I don't believe in it."

More News on 300 Prequel

During the same press conference at which Zack Snyder shot down rumors of a Watchmen sequel, the director was far more open to a follow-up to 300.

As reported by IESB, Snyder has spoken with Frank Miller, who will be writing and drawing the graphic novel on which the second film will be based. Only when Miller is finished with his work will he and Snyder focus on a script for a 300 sequel.

Which wll actually be a 300 prequel.

Snyder said the movie will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea, the battle that narrator Dilios is at while re-telling the story of King Leonidas and the mighty Spartans to a new group of warriors at the end of 300.

Talk of 300 Sequel Heats Up

Collider.com talked to Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari and Bernie Goldmann - the producers of 300 - earlier this week at 34th Annual Saturn Awards.

The trio made it sound like they were hopeful about a sequel to their blockbuster epic.

"We're looking for another 300 and we're looking for Frank Miller and Zack [Snyder] to do thier thing. We've had obviously, around the world, such an amazing journey," Canton said. "It keeps on going."
