Reel Movie Reviews: 27 Dresses

reel-reviews-logo.jpg On the heels - or should that be the uterus? - of Knocked Up, Katherine Heigl stars in the romantic comedy 27 Dresses later this month.

What are critics and viewers saying about this tale of a perpetual bridesmaid? Let’s find out…

- 27 Dresses lacks the kind of bracing satire we’d expect from the screenwriter, The Devil Wears Prada’s Aline Brosh McKenna. Here, the devil wears taffeta and the script is more frothy than cutting edge. — News Blaze

- Jane has always been good at taking care of others, but not so much in looking after herself. Her entire life has been about making people happy – and she has a closet full of 27 bridesmaid dresses to prove it. — SmartCine.com

- I just saw a preview of this movie last night and it was hilarious! One of the best movies I have seen in a long time! I HIGHLY recommend seeing it!!!!!!!!!!!!! — user on Netglimse.com

Katherine Heigl Dishes on 27 Dresses

27 Dresses PictureFor the record: Katherine Heigl is a recent bride - and wasn’t always a bridesmaid.

While the actress portrays a woman who has been the proverbial second banana at a wedding multiple times in the upcoming comedy, 27 Dresses, Heigl just got hitched to singer Josh Kelley over the holidays and…

“I’ve only been a bridesmaid twice in real life,” she told the Chicago Sun-Times of her new role. In the film she plays Jane, the perennial bridesmaid whose sister announces she’s getting married. Moreover, she’s marrying the man Jane secretly loves (Edward Burns).

Heigl said she knows plenty of Jane types, women who are givers to the extreme.

“I’ve met and known women like her. They have taken a back seat to what everyone else wants. These women don’t really go after their own happiness.

“What I loved about Jane was the progression of her character. She starts out as this doormat. But there are very clear and honest reasons for it. Her mother died when she was a little girl.

“Now her sister is getting married to George. She doesn’t go after George because she is his assistant and works for him. It would be unprofessional. At the same time, it’s easier to turn your back than proclaim your love for somebody and then be turned down. She has sort of chosen the path of least resistance for herself and ends up hurting.”

During one scene in 27 Dresses, Jane is at two weddings in one night.

“What I love about the film is that it’s really exaggerated,” Heigl said. “I can’t imagine anyone ever really doing that because it’s close to impossible. There is no way she could have gotten back for both electric slides at both weddings. But it was a really fun idea.”

The 27 Dresses Movie Trailer

As Katherine Heigil continues to star on Grey’s Anatomy, she’s also found time to build a solid movie career.

Everyone loved Knocked Up. And her next feature, 27 Dresses, looks entertaining. Here’s the preview for it:

A Sneak Peak at 27 Dresses

Katherine Heigl might be stuck in an unbearable story line on Grey’s Anatomy, but her next movie looks promising.

It’s called 27 Dresses and it’s based around a woman who’s constantly a bridesmaid, but, alas, never a bride. Here’s a look at three of those dresses on Heigl:

One Dress

With the white bow strapped across Heigl’s backside, costume designer Cat Thomas tried to “make a really beautiful couture gown sort of be ridiculous at the same time.”

Another Dress

Heigl accessorizes a short strapless gown with a spiked choker for a friend’s goth nuptials.

A Third Dress

Heigl wore a traditional kimono with sandals and special toe-socks at a Japanese wedding.
