Donne Darko Director Considers Twilight Movie

Richard Kelly's The Box hit theaters today, and already there is speculation on his next project. Would the man who brought us Donnie Darko and Southland Tales be up to the task of Breaking Dawn, the fourth chapter in the Twilight saga?

"I don't even know if [Summit Entertainment] would ever be interested in someone like me. I'm certainly keeping an open mind," Kelly said.

There is no official word on who will be directing Breaking Dawn, and certainly no formal offer to Kelly to direct it, but the auteur is looking to collaborate on projects that are not of his own creation.

"Now, more than ever, I think I'm open to doing something that isn't an original or that's something from another script," he explained. "I'm just trying to keep my mind open to any possibilities that might present themselves."

As the edgy David Slade racks up cool points on Eclipse, maybe there is room in the Twilight universe for Richard Kelly after all.

Bradley Cooper Goes Dark

As if he didn't have enough to do, between playing Templeton "Faceman" Peck in Joe Carnahan's A-Team or reprising his role as Phil Wenneck in The Hangover sequel, Bradley Cooper has signed on to do Dark Fields.

Dark Fields reportedly centers around a designer drug that can make its user rich and powerful. Cooper will play Eddie, a down on his luck writer who takes a pill which gives him the full use of his brain. Of course, "he soon realizes that his newfound intelligence and success come at a hefty price as mysterious forces begin to pursue him."

Shooting is set to begin Spring 2010.

Edward Norton Unsure About Avengers

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether Edward Norton is a realist or a pessimist. Just as he expressed doubt over the Incredible Hulk sequel, he sounds completely unenthusiastic about The Avengers.

"I'm not even sure deep inside the minds of Marvel how they are planning to string that stuff out, but I don't think any of it is imminent, I don't know," said the Fight Club star about The Avengers, which is supposed to sport a slew of Marvel characters from various different films, some yet to be shot.

Norton also went on to elaborate what it would take from Marvel for him to be on board the film:

"Things like that to me are always completely dependent on what they make of it. It's like anything can be the crappy version of itself or the great version of itself and if it's the great version of itself, then that's one thing. If they don't get it right, then I don't know, then I think… A lot of it depends on what they come up with."

The Avengers currently has a 2012 release date.

JJ Abrams hints at Khan for Next Trek

"KHAAAAAAAAANN!" Who could forget hearing William Shatner's voice echoing through deep space? Nicholas Meyer's 1982 sequel Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan is hailed as being the pinnacle of what the Star Trek franchise has to offer. With such a stout reputation, it's only natural for JJ Abrams to want to update the character.

Abram's reinvention of Star Trek relies on taking the audience to an alternate universe, allowing virtually every adventure in Trek history to be rediscovered. JJ himself opened up about what may be in store for the Star Trek sequel.

"Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced. Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise," said Abrams.

"While I don't want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we've seen in the past, and I don't think any of the other writers or producers are interested in just rehasing or throwing characters in for the sake of it... Khan is certainly the most obvious one in the history of the series for me... I do think that there are... nothing is off limits in terms of what we're discussing."

While it's not a confirmation, it seems JJ is keen on bringing the legendary villain back to the big screen. The next question is, who could fill Ricardo Montalban's shoes?

Eclipse Gets Street Cred

Okay, well, maybe not street cred, but Eclipse director David Slade is racking up his goth points by casting Bauhaus front man Peter Murphy for a cameo role.

If you're totally clueless as to who Peter Murphy is, or who or what Bauhaus was (aside from being a German art school and successive movement, it was also the name of a proto-goth band in the 80s), don't be alarmed, it was all before your time. David Slade (pictured above) is just trying to be cool attract an older male audience to his entry in the Twilight Saga.

With Twilight and New Moon catering to a largely female and tween demographic, it's easy to see why the director of such violent, testosterone-centric films as Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night would be interested in injecting some old-school rock and roll into the young franchise. But that doesn't mean the cameo will be out of place.

Murphy, the so-called Godfather of Goth, who used to rise from coffins onstage and drive a hearse, is appropriately portraying a vampire in the new film.

"He plays a vampire in a flashback sequence," explained Eclipse actor Billy Burke. "I didn't get to see any of it, but all reports from the director David Slade, and everyone around say he just kicked ass. I'm real excited to see it."

You'll have to wait until next year to see it, when Eclipse hits theaters on June 30, 2010.

Zach Galifanakis Sat on a Wall

It's been a great summer for Zach Galifanakis. He had a Hangover in Vegas, got a Due Date with Robert Downey, Jr., and was Bored to Death by Ted Danson.

Now, it looks like he may be playing... a giant egg?

Yep, Galifanakis is currently in negotiations to play Humpty Dumpty in the Shrek spinoff Puss in Boots. I mean, really, where else could you go from playing baby-toting, slow-witted Alan Garner?

Tom Wheeler is writing the screenplay for the prequel, which will feature the voices of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in a story about the events leading up to the feline assassin's first meeting with Shrek & Co. in the second film.

Puss is set for a November 4, 2011 release.

Wes Anderson: "I Was Only Kidding!"

A few days ago, Wes Anderson told the press he wanted to shoot a science-fiction movie on location in space. Apparently, the mass media doesn't get jokes, and a flood of rumors have spread concerning Anderson's follow-up project to the animated Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Anderson recently sat down with Collider.com to respond to the rumors and talk about his future plans. Here's a sample:

"I think that was a joke that I made outside the premiere the other night. I wasn’t aware that anyone thought I really meant it. I said I wanted to shoot on location in space. Well, after I said it I thought that might be nice. (everyone laughs) I don’t know, I’m not sure…that’s kind of a James Cameron type move."

Anderson then proceeded to subtly stoke the embers that caught the media on fire when talking about his desire to make a sci-fi film:

"I would like to do a movie in space but I think it would be difficult to do it on location. Someone’s going to do that before too long I suppose."

As always, the quirky director was fun and mysterious about what's on his plate:

"I’m writing something but it’s so early I don’t think I could accurately describe it."

Guillermo Del Toro Dishes Hobbit Details

Audiences will be re-visiting Middle Earth again in the near future, this time at the hands of Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro, with The Hobbit.

While we're a little disappointed that while the lovable dwarf Gimli won't be in The Hobbit, we are excited to hear what Del Toro had to say to Total Film about the new creatures he will bring to the screen:

"I think one of the designs I’m the proudest of is Smaug. Obviously he took the longest. It’s actually still active: we’re finishing his colour palette and a little bit of the texture. But the bulk of the design took about a year, solid. It’s because of the unique features of the dragon. Early in production I came up with a very strong idea that would separate Smaug from every other dragon ever made. The problem was implementing that idea. But I think we’ve nailed it."

This New Poster is Kick-Ass!

No, it's not another Spider-Man 4 poster, it's for the upcoming graphic novel adaptation Kick-Ass!

Kick-Ass, directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake), follows an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan named Dave Lizewski who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

As if that wasn't enough, Nicholas Cage and McLovin are also in it!

Kick-Ass starts kicking ass on April 16, 2010.
