In Yes Man, Jim Carrey portrays a guy that attends a self-help seminar and proceeds to say "yes" to everything. Yes, it's very much like "Liar, Liar." And, yes, it's almost as entertaining.

The film is based on a memoir by British author Danny Wallace about the life-changing power of positive responding.

This comedy is the ideal mix of Carrey's trademark shtick, along with a grounded plot that maintains while a decorum appropriate for a man approaching his late 40s. It's not Ace Ventura, but - thank goodness - it's also not The Cable Guy.

Helping to keep Carry in check is Zooey Deschanel, who portrays Allison, a delightful force of nature who leads photography-jogging workshops. Like she did with Will Ferrell in Elf, Zooey is a master at letting her male co-star go off in his own world, while still mangazing her own comic energy that makes this movie feel like more than just a Jim Carrey vehicle.

It's the perfect balance, really. And while the ending may be predictable, there are worse things than that when it comes to recent Carrey fare. As The Number 23 proved.
