As most everyone knows, He's Just Not That Into You is based on a best-selling self-help book. Its author has even landed his own reality series.

While we could conceive of this being a cliche-ridden confidence builder for lonely women (sorry, but it's true) to read, it really doesn't translate well on the big screen.

We left the theater and, seriously, couldn't remember the names of various characters. That ought to indicate exactly how much depth each individual displays on screen.

It's not the fault of the stellar cast, which includes Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore. The latter even has a superb monologue when complains that she is driven crazy by the ways guys always seem to be communicating in another medium.

But the film doesn't go anywhere. Moreover, it makes all females seem man-obsessed. It's almost as bad as an episode of The Bachelor!

What’s depressing about this so-called romantic comedy and others like it is the low bar it sets for both modern women and the movies that seek to represent them.
