Maggie Gyllenhaal Pushes for Heath Ledger Oscar Nod

Count Maggie Gyllenhaal as one of Heath Ledger's biggest Academy Award supporters.

"I would vote for him," Gyllenhaal told reporters Monday at the film's London premiere when asked if her The Dark Knight co-star was worthy of a nomination.

Gyllenhaal, who shares a memorable scene with Ledger during a party thrown at Bruce Wayne's apartment, said of the actors Oscar prospects that the "degree of difficulty should be incorporated into the award."

"To be that incredible in a movie that's this huge, that's about so many things, is really an accomplishment," Gyllenhaal said. "In a way I feel funny thinking about the Oscars when he isn't alive, but at the same time I'm a member of the Academy and I would vote for him.

The Midnight Meat Train Movie Trailer

Midnight Meat Train hasn't exactly been as hyped as other films this summer. But it's gotta have the best title of all upcoming flicks.

The horror movie, which is based on Clive Barker story with the same name, opens in selected theaters on August 1. Here's its trailer:

Reel Movie Reviews: Step Brothers

ReviewsWhat would the summer be without a ridiculous Will Ferrell movie on the calendar?

This year, the movie is Step Brothers. Is it worth your time and money? Many film critics seem to think so...

- There hasn't been this much fun under the same roof since the creation of the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms... -- Kyle Smith

- Goofy, bawdy, and full of slapstick physicality "Step Brothers" takes advantage of the natural comic chemistry between Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to generate a coming of age comedy that's funnier than any of Will Ferrell's recent outings... -- Cole Smithey

Roommates, Brothers

- Ferrell's Brennan is as dumb as his George W. Bush, as enthusiastic as a Spartan cheerleader, and as convinced of his own importance as Ron Burgundy... -- Cinema Blend

- [The director] keeps his comedy from straying too far into Adam Sandler turf by limiting the overt sentimentality and not letting the melodrama overwhelm the gloriously crass dialogue and intentionally childish conduct of Ferrell and Reilly who work well together... -- Emanuel Levy

Christian Bale: Excited to Reinvent Terminator Franchise

In theaters these days, prior to The Dark Knight, Christian Bale is featured in ads for Terminator Salvation.

The actor recently told MTV he was excited to be jump-starting another iconic franchise.

“I see there is great potential for reinvention and revitalization of the mythology of it,” Bale said. “And that’s what I’m aiming to do. That’s what I feel like our responsibility is; otherwise there is no point in making it.”

Bale added that the script is similar to Batman Begins; it brings a fresh perspective to a fatigued series, while keeping one foot firmly planted in the past.

“In Terminator we are continuing a mythology,” he said. “We don’t ignore a mythology, [similar to what] we did with Batman.”

Land of the Lost, a family comedy based on the 1974-77 television series of the same name, will star Will Ferrell and Pushing Daisies actress Anna Friel.

The series revolved around forest ranger Rick Marshall and his children, Will and Holly, who are caught in a time vortex while rafting on the Colorado River and transported to a mysterious world populated by dinosaurs.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe Stars Speak on Reprising Roles

As The X-Files: I Want to Believe gets closer to its release date, the film's two stars are making the publicity rounds.

Earlier this week, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson spoke with Dark Horizons about getting back into the roles they made so famous.

Question: Can you talk about getting back into these characters after a five or six year period?

Duchovny: Well, I had two weeks before Christmas of basically running around and chasing Callum Rennie who plays the running bad guy that I chase all over the place. That took a good two full weeks of running even though I know it's only about ten seconds in the movie and then Gillian and I started working on it after Christmas break.

The first two weeks I felt a little awkward and I didn't really feel like I wanted to do longer scenes. I was just fine running around. Then as soon as Gillian and I started working and it was Mulder and Scully, then I kind of remembered what it was all about and that relationship kind of anchored my performance just as I think the relationship anchors this film.

Mulder and Scully are back in The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Anderson: I had a similar experience. This feels so weird. Summertime. I didn't have all the running around that David had to do, but I did have my own unfortunate beginning which was starting with one of the most difficult scenes for Scully in the film where it's later on in the script and she goes through a range of emotions in confronting Billy Connolly's character. I just had a really hard time for those first couple of days.

I had a really hard time just finding her, finding her voice. I think I must've gone through ten other characters in the process of trying to get to her when I had assumed that I would be able to show up on the first day and it would just be there. It wasn't until I think day three when we got to work together, not just necessarily in a familiar environment which it really wasn't, but in the environment of each other and the relationship and that it kind of felt natural and familiar and I felt like I'd landed this time.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Fuel Anchorman 2 Rumors

Wrier Adam McKay has teamed up again with Will Ferrell for the upcoming comedy Step Brothers.

When these two sat down with ComingSoon.net to discuss that project, however, focus turned to the exciting possibility of a follow-up to an earlier film that focused on a certain, arrogant, clueless news man.

"We just had so much fun making that movie, and it was hard to get made, but what's been great is that it's taken on such a life of its own," Ferrell said about Anchorman, while hinting at the possibility of a sequel. "At least the feedback we get is it's beloved, so yeah, it's just one of those that feels like an evergreen thing that we can go back and do it again."

Ron Burgundy gets himself ready for an Anchorman sequel.

McKay also commented on the rumors of Anchorman 2.

"We had a lot of ideas," McKay said. "The opportunity to be that free and loose. The audience would give us a lot of rope with that character at this point, a lot of free rein. They all know it, and they all know it's going to get crazy, and that's just too tempting. It's like oh my God, where can we go? What's the next level of this idea we can push to?"

A suggestion of showing Ron in the 1980s has been flloated, McKay added.

"We got about seven ideas we're kicking around right now, so somewhere out of all of them, it will somehow fit together."
