David Goyer Talks Ghost Rider 2

There has been a lot of speculation about what angle Ghost Rider 2 will take. Even Nicholas Cage has called for a Ghost Rider reboot.

Screenwriter David Goyer, who has brought us Batman Begins and Blade 2, recently spoke with MTV about his plans for the flaming super hero.

Johnny Blaze Picture

"It's not exactly a reboot," said Goyer. "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.'"

So it is a reboot, yet it isn't?

"This story picks up eight years after the first film," said Goyer. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place."

Ah, well it's good to hear that they're not relying on the first film, as any good sequel should, but pretending the audience hasn't seen the original? That's a bit disrespectful, don't ya think? Oh, I forgot- it's Ghost Rider.

Ghost Rider 2 is apparently set to roll next year, with Nicholas Cage still attached to play Johnny Blaze.

Machete Grindhouse Trailer

To help celebrate our first glimpse at Jessica Alba's Machete poster, here's the original trailer for Machete that was attached to 2007's Grindhouse double feature. While you're at it, check out the amazing Machete promo poster too!

Nic Cage Road Rage!

No, we're not talking about Ghost Rider 2, but Nicholas Cage will be appearing in My Bloody Valentine 3-D director Patrick Lussier's new movie Drive Angry.

Lussier is writing and directing Angry, which will also be shot in 3-D. Nu-Image/Millennium Films has released these plot details:

Drive Angry stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out for one last chance at redemption. Hell bent on stopping a vicious cult of fanatics who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice his infant granddaughter beneath a full moon. Milton must use his anger to go beyond all human limits in order to save his last connection with humanity.

Shocktillyoudrop.com has posted a more in-depth synopsis that reveals Cage will be burning rubber in a black '71 Challenger and will also be on the run from a relentless killer known only as "The Accountant". Between this and Machete, it sounds like the grindhouse aesthetic is back in full force!

Scream 4 Gets a Poster!

The 2009 American Film Market is just now getting under way, and already The Weinstein Company is out in full force. Chief among TWC's agenda is Scream 4, which they promoted with some brand-new poster art!

The company also issued this bit of info with the poster:

The horror series that reignited the genre and gross more than $500 million worldwide is back! From Kevin Williamson, creator of the original Scream trilogy, the new film sees the return of cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, along with a group of new stars, who can all hopefully stay alive long enough to figure out the new rules to this one-of-a-kind horror franchise!

Although no director was listed with the Scream 4 materials, it has been reported that Wes Craven is set to direct.

Jessica Alba: Sexy With a Machete!

Remember Grindhouse, the Tarantino/Rodriguez double feature? Remember the trailers? Well, they've actually delivered on the promise to turn those into full-length films, or at least for Machete.

For those of you that don't recall, Machete was a trailer shot as a test for Grindhouse that ended up being attached to the beginning of Planet Terror. After fan reaction to the trailer was so intense, Rodriguez and company decided to follow up by expanding Machete into its own feature-length film, starring Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, and Jeff Fahey, who play the same characters from the trailer.

But what's really interesting is who Rodriguez has added to the cast: Steven Seagal, Robert DeNiro, Rose McGowan (reprising her role as Cherry Darling), Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, and finally, Jessica Alba!

Check out the promo poster for Machete featuring Jessica Alba:

Jessica Alba Machete Poster

Alba stars as Sartana, a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger played by Trejo.

While the basic plot of Machete remains the same as it was in the trailer, there are a lot more ins and outs, as you can imagine. DeNiro plays the senator Machete is hired to assassinate, Steven Seagal plays a cruel drug lord, while Lohan portrays a socialite with a penchant for cocaine guns. Sounds like a hell of a time, no?

Machete slashes its way into theaters on April 16, 2010.

Roger Rabbit Sequel In the Works

Back in 1988, Robert Zemeckis opened our eyes to a world where cartoons and humans interacted seamlessly.  21 years later, it looks like he's finally ready to take us back to Toon Town.

Roger Rabbit car chase

While on the PR trail for his newest animated adventure, A Christmas Carol, Zemeckis has confirmed to MTV that he's working on a Roger Rabbit sequel.

The writers of the original, Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman, are hammering out a script for the film under Zemeckis' supervision. Several attempts had previously been made to bring Roger Rabbit to the big screen since 1988, but this is the first time Zemeckis has been officially involved.

Asked if he'd use the high-tech motion capture technology he's used to bring Beowulf, The Polar Express, and now A Christmas Carol to theaters, Zemeckis had this to say:

"I wouldn't use it for the cartoon characters, because I think they should stay two-dimensional. I wouldn't dimensonalize Roger…But all the other characters that [the cartoons] would sort of have fun with would be magnificent in performance capture technology."

So, does that mean we'll get 3-D animated people mixed with 2-D cartoons? It's hard to say what exactly Zemeckis has up his sleeve, and seeing as how he's set to direct a mo-cap remake of the Beatles' Yellow Submarine first, it'll be a little while before we find out.

Paranormal Activity Sequel Moving Forward

Ever since the micro-budgeted Paranormal Activity began gripping audiences earlier this year, the gears have been turning at Paramount Pictures. As with any major hit, the studio had been seriously considering making Paranormal Activity 2.

In Viacom's earnings call Tuesday morning, CEO Philippe Dauman called Paranormal Activity a rare surprise hit that only comes once in a blue moon, and that Paramount would have to be careful about how it handles the sequel.

"Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach," he said, stressing that the sequel won't have the element of surprise behind it that the original supernatural thriller had.

Paranormal Activity only cost an estimated $15,000 to make, yet it is well on its way to grossing $100 million.
