Sam Worthington Talks Terminator Salvation

At Comic-Con last week, MoviesOnline caught up with Sam Worthington. The actor takes on the role of Marus Wright in Terminator Salvation, a stranger who shows up and causes a dilemma for John Connor in the movie.

Here are excerpts of the interview...

On director McG: First thing McG ever said to me was I don’t want to make a McG movie. I want to make a Terminator movie and that’s where we are.

On his mindset for the movie: In this movie, I’ve been blown up, shot at, mined, napalmed. You name it, I’ve fuckin’ had it. How do you prepare for that? You just get in there and do your job. It’s as simple as that.

On his character: I look at this movie as what makes Kyle Reese Kyle Reese and what makes John Connor John Connor and my character’s almost like a bridge between them. I look at my character as a bridge to how they connect and how they grow. He’s a drifter.

Derek Mears is set to wear the mask of Jason Voorhees.

Moreover, Mears said he’s already feeling welcome in the rank of horror elites that includes names like Kane Hodder, Andrew Bryniarski and other giants of the industry.

“I have a lot of respect for the guys from the [various] horror series, because I’m also a fan,” the actor said.

“But it’s been really nice, because some of the Jasons who have played Jason before me have contacted me and been like ‘Hey, man. Welcome to the party! Welcome to the team!’ People have been really, really welcoming and kind.”

Transformers Sequel Spoilers Revealed by Comic Book

Tranformers 2What, exactly, is director Michael Bay’s plan for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?

A few spoilers have already been leaked regarding the 2009 blockbuster, but an upcoming comic book may be the best look yet into next summer's release.

Hardcore fans can look forward to a five-part prequel miniseries entitled “Transformers: Destiny” that will to bridge the gap between the 2007 film and its upcoming sequel. Writer Chris Mowry recently talked to MTV News about the project.

“[We're going to] expand on the ‘Reign of Starscream’ story that we’re doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be,” said Mowry, who partners on the book with artist Alex Milne. “The next movie starts out with just tons of action and there’s obviously going to be a lot of questions, so we’re hoping to answer some of those beforehand.”

Venom Creator Considers Spider-Man Spinoff

A significant question being posed in Hollywood these days is: Who will play the next Batman villain?

As that gets debated, rumors continues to swirl over an actual spin-off for a certain Spider-Man bad guy. Might a movie centered around Venom ever come to fruition?

As one of the most villainous characters in Marvel comics history, could this pile of extraterrestrial goo truly transition to leading man?

“I think Venom could headline a good movie on his own, but it would be tricky and would depend in large part on the script,” Venom’s creator David Michelinie told MTV News.

Venom

Naturally, Michelinie argues the success of any Venom movie would depend most on who’s wearing the suit.

In Spider-Man 3, Venom fused with Eddie Brock (portrayed by Topher Grace), but Brock’s climactic and seemingly conclusive death scene leaves an open slot for the symbiote’s host.

“If Eddie’s still dead from Spider-Man 3, said Michelinie,” “the story and the success of the movie would depend almost entirely on the personality of the character who would combine with the symbiote: his motivations, his background, his methodology… his heart and soul.”

The Mummy 4 Spoilers Already Leaked

Yes, you read the headline above correctly.

Despite a less-than-stellar showing of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor at the box office this weekend (though, in the film's defense, what movie would do well against The Dark Knight?), a fourth installment of this franchise is all but assured.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Look out, undead world: The Mummy 4 is in the works.

In fact, director Rob Cohen has a clear vision for the plut of The Mummy 4 (warning: The Mummy 3 spoilers ahead!). He recently told to MTV:

“Rick, because he was treated by the pool of eternal life, Rick is now immortal. I’d love to explore how that plays out for him...

Another spoiler, Jonathan [John Hannah] winds up with the artifact in this film and he doesn’t realize, nor do we, what its powers are. In my mind, that artifact still has a lot of prizes in it, the eye of Shangri La, this big diamond.”

Would you watch a fourth installment of The Mummy? Or does this franchse need to wrap itself up already?

Reel Movie Reviews: Tropic Thunder

ReviewsTropic Thunder comes out on August 13.

What do critics have to say about this Ben Stiller-directed comedy? We asked a few for their opinion...

- A smart-alecky sendup of Hollywood in general and action films in particular, Tropic Thunder undeniably provokes quite a few laughs, but of the most hollow kind... -- Variety

- The self-aggrandizing humor becomes tiresome midway through...but the ending is spectacular and relentless. It would be hard for even the most cynical to avoid a hefty chuckle or two by the time the credits roll... -- ReelzChannel

Tropic Thunder

- A broad action comedy that manages to mix subtlety with satire... -- Hollywood Reporter

- Robert Downey, Jr.'s performance is nearly on par with what Heath Ledger did as the Joker... -- Cinema Blend

Doom Sequel Rumors Fueled by Video Game Creator

Despite the fact that Doom - released in 2005 and starring Dwayne Johnson - was neither a critical nor commercial success, the video game's developer is still calling for a sequel.

"Personally I'd like to do another Doom movie - I thought working with it was a blast, software CEO Todd Hollenshead said. "There are some lessons we learned. The best way to do things better is to get the experience."

Doom

Despite the presence of Dwayne Johnson, viewers didn't exactly line up for Doom.

Universal Pictures currently owns the film rights to the game, but Hollenshead believes that the forthcoming Doom 4 edition will help inspire a sequel.

"We'll see what happens when we get further along in development of the game and there's more buzz and we share more about what the game will be about. As the buzz meter starts to go up, that may kind of kick-start the guys over at Universal."

USA Today Speaks to James Franco About Upcoming Roles

James Franco - who stars this weekend in Pineapple Express and later this year in the biopic Milk - recently sat down with USA Today.

As for the two movies come up, Milk producer Bruce Cohen said: "It couldn't be a better showcase for his talent to look at these two roles. They're both different sides of him...

He can bring the attributes of the young stoner guy he needs for Pineapple Express, but underneath that is the scholar and the deep thinker and the guy who wants to learn about art and is interested in politics. His performances are complex and layered."

Saul Silver Photo

Franco himself was asked about the role of Saul (pictured above) in Pineapple Express and deadpanned:

"I was always going to play Saul. They found me in my apartment, there was no script, they just came into my place. My dealer came after me. It was perfect."

In reality, Franco told the newspaper that he "used to smoke weed, but I haven't done it in a long time. Everybody, even now, thinks, 'That guy is stoned.' It's just the way I talk, because I don't smoke weed.

Somehow, there's something about me, the way I talk, that implies that I'm on drugs."
