Donald Petrie Directing Fashionistas

Donald Petrie has signed on to direct and produce Fashionistas, the the romantic comedy based on the novel by Lynn Messina.

According to Variety, Petrie is joining alongside CP Productions' Chrstine Peters and Michael Cerenzie along with Kallagio Entertainment as producer.

Fashionistas was originally going to be produced by Paramount, but now is being done independently by CP Productions.

The novel, which was Lynn Messina's first work, is the story of a young woman working at a design studio who plots to take down her boss by making up a designer.  Danny Fischer and Paula Chorley will be adapting the novel for the big screen.

Christine Peters and Donald Petrie are no strangers to each other or the romantic comedy genre, as the two teamed up previously for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Production will begin in late 2008.

New Righteous Kill Photos

The upcoming crime drama, Righteous Kill, starring Rebert De Niro, Al Pacino, and 50 Cent is due out in theaters on September 12 and Comingsoon.net just got access to two new exclusive pictures.

Marvin the Martian the Movie

Marvin the MartianWarner Brothers is bringing Marvin the Martian to the bigscreen courtesy of Alcon Entertainment.

The beloved Looney Tunes character, who was first introduced in 1948 and has since been intent on taking over the world, will star in his first full, feature-length movie.

According to Variety, Marvin will be produced by Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, and Steve Crystal.  Currently Alcon is still seeking writers and directors.

The movie will combine live action and CGI.  Marvin was initially pitched as a Christmas movie.  No release date announced.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Remake

Miramax and Guilermo del Toro have announced a remake of the made for television horror movie, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, del Toro, the legendary film director behind Pan's Labryithin and most recently Hellboy 2 will serve as producer alongside Miramax. Comic book artist and writer, Troy Nixey will make his directorial debut on this remake.

In the original Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, the story was about a young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend only to dsicover monsters that live under the stairs.

With del Toro producing and Nixey under his wing, expect some imagintive, special effects-ladden monsters hiding under those stairs.

Relativity Acquires Durham's Acacia

Relativity Media has acquired the rights to David Anthony Durham's epic fantasy novel, Acacia: The War with the Mein.

According to Variety, Relativity will have Ryan Kavanaugh produce alongside Michael De Luca.  Andrew Grant will adapt the first installment of the planned trilogy.

The story starts off with King Akaran being assassinated and the kingdom of Acacia is overthrown by the Mein tribe.  Four Akaran heirs spend nine years in exile as children before they return as adults to reclaim their father's kingdom.

Acacia's first book, which was published in June 2007, was one of Kurkus Reviews Ten Best Works fo Fiction in 2007 and one of Publisher Weekly's Best Books of 2007.

Universal Studios Signs Inglorious Basterds

Quentin Taratino's World War II drama, Inglorious Basterds, has been officially signed with Universal Studios.

According to Variety, Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein met with five studios last week and although it came down to Paramount and Universal Studios, they ended up signing with Universal. Lawyers are hammering out the details now.

After Tarantino met with Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, rumors have it that Pitt will play leading role Aldo Raine and DiCaprio will play the Nazi Hands Landa.

Shooting will begin in the fall in both Germany and France.

James Franco Cast in Sympathy for Delicious

James Franco PhotographIn spite of recently announcing he was going back to school, James Franco has joined the cast of Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut Sympathy for Delicious.

Franco, who will appear in the latest Judd Apatow flick, Pineapple Express, in theaters next week, told MTV News that “Mark Ruffalo is gonna direct his first movie and he wants me to play a singer in a rock band."

According to James, Delicious is a DJ and "This DJ character was written for [Mark's] friend who’s actually paraplegic in real life, Chris Thornton, and he’s this DJ that has kind of a gift. He joins up with my band and then starts getting more attention than me, the lead singer. So I start getting upset about that.”

Sounds interesting.  Ruffalo has been trying to get his movie made since he announced it in 2004 while doing press for 13 Going on 30 but with the announcement of Franco joining the project, it may be closer to reality.

Rachael Taylor Cast in Splinterheads

Rachael Taylor PictureRachael Taylor of Transformers fame has been the latest star cast in Splinterheads, a carnival-set comedy written and directed by Brant Sersen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor will play a carnie con artist who dupes and eventually befriends a local twenty-something played by Thomas Middleditch.

Splinterhead also stars Christopher McDonald and Lea Thompson.  The film is being produced by Darren Golderg, Chris Marsh, and Anisa Quereshi.  Production starts next month.

Jennifer Lopez Cast in The Governess

Jennifer Lopez PictureJennifer Lopez has been cast as the starring role in the upcoming romantic comedy, The Governess.

According to Variety, The Governess is the story of a professional thief who goes into hiding as a nanny of three children and their wealthy father after a major bank heist.  Of course, in traditional romantic comedy formula, she falls in love with the family.

The film is being written by Kevin Wade, author of another of Lopez's romantic comedies, Maid in Manhattan.

Shooting will begin in Massachusetts in the Fall.

Lopez, the recent mother of twins, is currently finishing up on the indie project, Love and Other Impossible Pursuits.
